What I Wore: Baby, It's "Cowl"ed Outside

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Embellished Cowl Sweatshirt, Lane Bryant Deconstructed Skinny Jeans, Converse Sequin Sneakers

Sorry for the cheesy title, but it made me smile.  It is definitely cold outside as we've been busy running errands around the holidays.  I love any excuse to wear sparkly, embellished items.  (Y'all probably know this by now.)  Around the holidays specifically, I need all the sparkle I can get.  Casual, every day pieces with fun embellishments are the bee's knees to me!

Season's Greetings!

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you all for reading the blog.  I appreciate all your comments and feedback and look forward to 2015, thankful to have all of you in my life!

No matter what holiday you are celebrating this time of year, I hope you are having a wonderful, relaxing time with people you love.  Today is Sean's birthday!!  I am making him cinnamon rolls for breakfast (gluten free) before we open presents.  Then we will head to his mom's to visit.  It is a super low-key celebration for us this year.

I wanted to share our card for this year with all of you.  I was able to design it myself and am pretty happy with how it turned out.  I have many posts to share from our Las Vegas Vacation in the coming weeks, but a little part of our trip made it on the card!  We love to do silly cards each year and try to top it as we go.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Sean and I to all of you!

Holiday Wishlisting: Guy Gifts

I asked my husband Sean to help me put together a list of some fun gifts for guys, just in case you all need some last minute ideas.  This list is definitely geared to the more nerdy, gadget-loving fella in your life, though I think there is something for everybody!

Most of this list is also last minute shopping friendly.  If it isn't a gift crate or monthly subscription box, I tried to make sure it was available on Amazon with Prime shipping.  If you aren't signed up for Amazon Prime, you can do the 30-Day trial and take advantage of the free 2-day shipping.  I did that last year before we figured out we could combine our accounts but maintain their independence.

Let's get shopping!

{Crafting Diva} How To: DIY Decorative Beaded Christmas Trees

Crafting Diva: Decorative Beaded Christmas Trees - DivineMrsDiva.com

As promised, today we are talking about a cute and easy Christmas craft you can do, even if you don't consider yourself super crafty.  These beaded trees make really pretty decorations and awesome gifts as well!

I finally made these trees after seeing some similar ones at Target last year for way more money than I was willing to pay.  After Christmas last year, I found some beaded garlands on clearance at Target (in colors that I really liked) and snatched them up. I had this particular craft in mind, so I'm happy I finally had time to make it a reality!

Crafting Diva: Decorative Beaded Christmas Trees - DivineMrsDiva.com

What You Will Need:
  • Paper Mache/Cardboard cones (You can do one size or multiple sizes.  This is up to you and your decorating needs.  They can typically be found at your local craft store or online. The ones I'm using are 14 inches high. You can find some for inexpensive here.  I bought items from this site when I was making wedding decor.)
  • Beaded garlands. (If you can wait to display these until next year, snatch up clearanced decor after Christmas.  It helps if the beads are similar in size and close together.  I used 1 and a half 9-foot garlands per 14 inch tree.)
  • Hot glue gun and lots of extra glue sticks.
  • Scissors
  • Modge Podge
  • Glitter.  I used a white glitter to give an icy effect, but you can use whatever color you like best.

What I Wore: Peg Bundy Realness

DivineMrsDiva.com - Kiyonna Party Ponte Peplum Top, Lane Bryant Genius Fit Capris

If you are younger than a certain age, you have probably never heard of Peg Bundy.  I'm pretty sure most of you are around my age group, so I may not even have to explain.  Peg was a character, played by Katey Sagal, on a show called "Married With Children".  The show ran from roughly 1987 to 1997.  I was never a huge fan of the show because I was a goody goody who thought the entire Bundy family was just awful.  But Peg inspired many people with her loud, skintight fashions.

In The Fitting Room: Maurices

DivineMrsDiva.com - In The Dressing Room: Maurices

This past weekend, I finally had time to meander through a Maurices store for the first time.  Actually, I have been to a Maurices once before; But being on the larger end of a 26/28 at the time, I was pretty sure nothing they carried would fit me.  Now that I'm a size 24, I figured it would be a good time to check them out and see how things fit.  Liz from With Wonder and Whimsy has found some really cute items at Maurices and has been encouraging me to go check them out myself.

Ipsy Bag Review - November 2014

Ipsy is a monthly box subscription service ($10 a month) that sends you about five samples and/or full-size products that could be makeup, skin care, hair care, or nail care in a cute little bag that fits the theme of the month.  Based on your answers to a short Beauty Quiz, you are sent the best products for you geared towards your skin tone, hair color, eye color, and other beauty concerns.  You earn points by reviewing the products and those points can be redeemed for selected items.

This month's theme was "Girl Meets Glitter".

Ipsy Bag Review - November 2014 DivineMrsDiva.com

Ipsy Bag Review - November 2014 (Be A Bombshell Eye Base in Submissive) DivineMrsDiva.com

Be A Bombshell Eye Base in Submissive - This eye base can be worn on its own or under other shadows.  Sometimes you need a little something extra for your shadows to cling to to get them to pop.  This shouldn't be used in place of a primer.  I have only worn it with primer and haven't had any issues with creasing.  The color is a soft, shimmery, bronzed gold that blends out and is easy to apply. Full size is $14.00.  See swatch below.

Ipsy Bag Review - November 2014 (Elizabeth Mott You're So Fine Eyeliner in Glitterati) DivineMrsDiva.com

Elizabeth Mott You're So Fine Eyeliner in Glitterati - I've said this before, but I am very picky about eyeliner and never expect any I receive to meet my standards.  I have been proved wrong before and this Elizabeth Mott liner is pretty great.  I've only worn it a couple times, but it glides on smooth.  The color is a dark black with multi glitter that stays in place.  Once dry, this liner stays put.  I didn't have any smudging and had to remove it with a makeup remover.  When I swatched it on my hand, I had to scrub it off until I used makeup remover (or alcohol) to remove it.  That is pretty awesome in my book!! Full size retails for $17.99 and can be found mostly online. See swatch below.

GLAMGLOW PowerMud DualCleanse Treatment - I've heard great things about GLAMGLOW and have wanted to try it for a while now.  This product claims to achieve deep cleansing in a gentle way.  It goes on as an almost gel-like mud mask and turns into a cleansing oil treatment as you massage it and wash it off.  I'm definitely a fan of the fruity apple/pear/papaya-like scent.  It appeals to my nostrils in a lovely way.

The mud mask dries to a smooth, not too crispy stiffness.  I wet my fingertips with warm water and gently massaged the mudded areas in a circular motion.  The consistency became a very silky feeling cleanser that foamed just a little bit.  Once I felt I had achieved cleanliness, I gently wiped off the cleanser with a damp washcloth and patted my face dry.  The result is super soft and silky skin.  :-)
The 1.7 oz full size product is $69.00.

Marc Anthony Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray - This hairspray contains argan oil, keratin, and grape seed oil to help nourish, strengthen, and condition as you style.  It is non-water based, fast drying, non-sticky, and claims to shield your hair from humidity and protect it from the sun.

The first thing that stood out to me about this hairspray is the great Sweet Tarts smell when you spray it on.  Even my husband noticed the fruity scent.  As someone who doesn't like to wear much hairspray, I appreciate the more flexible hold and the fact that I can still run my fingers through my hair after applying this.  I've used it a couple of times and think the conditioning is there because it doesn't dull my hair, but I can't speak to the volume.  I have heavy, thick, coarser hair so that may be an issue.  I usually need an arsenal of products to give me my desired volume.  It isn't super sticky and doesn't feel like a residue is over your hair when you use it.  I really enjoy this hairspray and will probably purchase a full size product.  This product can be found at Walgreens for around $8.29 for 9 oz, as well as many other retail locations.

Nicole by OPI Nail Polish in Guys and Galaxies - I own a few shades from this brand already and think they are quality polishes that do what a polish is meant to do.  This shade is an Ipsy exclusive with bigger iridescent sparkles and silver glitter. I love how sparkly this shade is.  It can be worn on its own or over other colors and will go with pretty much anything.  Love it!  Nicole by OPI can be found at various retailers for about $6.99. See swatch below.

What I Wore: Hello Moto

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Faux Leather Moto Vest

Today I bring you two looks with the Faux Leather Moto Vest.  I first posted about this vest in my Dressing Room post when I initially tried it on.  It was one of those random things I decided to try on, even though I didn't expect it to look good on me.  I didn't buy it in-store because the price was pretty steep.  Continuing to think about it, I bought it when it was on sale and have tried to wear it with varying looks since then.

You may remember seeing it with my plaid Foxcroft shirt in a recent post.  I think that look was so fun!  I love the bright colors with the vest.  When I first tried the vest on, I paired it with a striped tee that didn't fit me to my liking.  I spent quite a while looking for a similar top to recreate the look.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Faux Leather Moto Vest

I found this top from Avenue online.  I couldn't believe how hard it was to find a grey and black striped top out of all the striped tops out now!  This one has a hood, so it lends itself to a more casual look.  However, I love the gradual point in front and back and the looser fit in the hips.  It is cute on its own, as well as with the vest.  The material is a stretchy knit, so it is very comfortable and easy to wear.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Faux Leather Moto Vest

I added my fall/winter uniform of jeans and boots to round out the ensemble.  I felt really cute in this outfit, running errands and going out to dinner with the husband.  The vest actually kept me warm so I didn't need a jacket. (The vest is lined with a grey knit material.)

Miter Stripe Hatchi Hoodie - Avenue (I'm wearing a 22/24)
Talia Stretch Back Riding Boot - Avenue
Denim Jeggings - Torrid (similar) (I'm wearing a 26)

For my second look, I went for a more 90s inspired ensemble.  I bought this skater dress from ASOS Curve back in the spring/early summer.  It was a little bit tighter then, so I was hoping that when cooler weather arrived it would be cute with leggings and boots.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Faux Leather Moto Vest

Once I bought the vest, I knew I had to wear it with this dress.  I thought it would be such a fun look!  It was so, so comfortable to wear!  I love the fuller skirt of the skater dress in this stretchy material.  Seriously, it is kind of like wearing pajamas.  I felt so cute and confident in this outfit, adding my rhinestone teddy bear head necklace for a bit of whimsy.

I attended a paleo cooking class that a friend of mine was teaching at our favorite local grocery store.  After the class, I was sashaying through the store with a pep in my step.  I just really loved this look!

Holiday Wishlisting

Hey, y'all!  I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!

As Thanksgiving (and Black Friday) are fast approaching, I have been doing a lot of strolling through some of my favorite online stores to plan out a wishlist for my husband and to also plan out my Black Friday attack.  I don't physically go out shopping for the post-holiday sales, oh no!  I don't possess the patience for that.  I much prefer meandering through the interwebs and snatching up deals or items from the comfort of my own home.  It has become a fun little tradition for Sean and I.

As I build up my lists, I thought I would show you some of the things I am adding.  Throughout the holiday season, I can bring you some fun little lists of items I can't wait to own!  These will cover an assortment of brands and types: fashion, beauty products, home items, etc.  For today, I offer a more girly fashion and beauty collection.

Holiday Wishlist 2014 Part One

So let me give you a rundown on my choices:

- A few of the items are from plus-size retailer Roaman's.  I am all about the easy separates; that dress will transition to spring and summer nicely.  I realized this weekend that I only have one actual long-sleeved shirt, excluding cardigans, so I am also trying to be mindful about adding some warmer pieces that I can mix and match.  It is COLD here!  While browsing the site, I came across some Roaman's coupons (here) and I also found some Woman Within coupons (their sister-site)! Who doesn't want to save a dime or two this time of year?

- The purple booties are practical but in a great color other than black (also from Roaman's. They have a great selection of really cute shoes and various width sizes as well.) and could go with a lot of my current wardrobe.  While the Crocs aren't the most fashionable thing, they look sturdy and practical.  As you might know, it rains in Washington State a LOT and I do not own rain boots.

- For accessories I added this fun scarf and studded bag from Charming Charlie.  On my recent vacation to Las Vegas, I hit up a Charming Charlie for the first time (and it was WONDERFUL!).  I have since found out there are actually a few stores a half hour or so from my house, so I will be going back.  The necklace is from Choies, which Cora from Vintage or Tacky is always talking about.  I love the big, funky gemstones.

- I am such a beauty product and makeup junkie!  I own about six pigments from Makeup Geek already.  These gel liners get great reviews and can be sold out for a while.  The color I chose, Rave, is a sparkling copper brown when swatched.

- I own the BareMinerals 5 in 1 shadow in a color called Divine Wine that I received in a Birchbox or Ipsy bag.  It is a darker, muted brown that can be worn alone or as a base color.  I think Blushing Pink would be a great brighter neutral shade for the same purpose.  They are very matte and don't crease at all.

- Hot Tools makes fabulous curling irons!  I own a pink-handled version of this one in a one-inch barrel.  My hair is getting a little longer, so I think a 1.25 inch barrel is going to be great.  It doesn't seem like a big difference, but my hairstylist uses the bigger one and the curls are noticeably different than my one inch.  They lay different around my head - all in a good way.

So there you have it, a fun little wishlist just in time for the holidays to really get started.  Let me know if you own any of the items and give me your thoughts!  What things are on your wishlist?

What I Wore: Southwestern Cardigan

What I Wore: Southwestern Cardigan (INC International Concepts via Macy's) - DivineMrsDiva.com

Hey y'all!!  We got back home from our Vegas Vacation late last Friday night, but we have been go, go, go since then.  I joined my aunt and cousin for our traditional Craft Warehouse shopping night, then was off to Friendsgiving until the wee hours of the morning.  On Sunday we had a baby shower for a dear friend and grocery shopping (since we left nothing in the fridge while we were gone).  Monday was dinner with the mom-in-law before seeing her off on her vacation.

Whew!  I need a vacation from my vacation at this point because I just want to sleep.  While we were gone, the weather turned very windy and chilly at home.  The shock of a 30 degree difference has been something to get used to.  The good news is I can finally wear this great cardigan I picked up at Macy's!

What I Wore: Southwestern Cardigan (INC International Concepts via Macy's) - DivineMrsDiva.com

You might remember this open cardigan from my Macy's dressing room post.  It's the cardigan Emme told me I had to have, so I bought it.  Not to say I didn't love it too, I totally did.  It just wasn't necessarily on super sale then.  While it is no longer available online, I encourage you to check your local store because it was marked down about 50%.  (UPDATE: As of Dec. 2, 2014, it is back online in 0X through 3X)

I received so many compliments on this cardigan at the baby shower.  It really is a fun piece to wear!  While it kept me cozy and warm, it isn't super thick to the point where I feel too warm.  I have mentioned before how I have to layer or wear thinner articles of clothing when going to businesses and people's houses in the winter.  Most people just have their heat on too high for my liking.  This cardigan was pretty darn perfect for combating the cold weather while not making me uncomfortably warm.

Obviously there are many complimentary colors that can be worn with this, but I chose this grey embellished tee.  This t-shirt has a cute sleeve-ruffle detail and rhinestones along the neckline that add a touch of sparkle that I love.  I have owned this t-shirt for years, a previous purchase from Lane Bryant during a clearance sale.  It is a 26/28, but made smaller.  It finally fits me loose enough that I feel comfortable in it, so you will probably be seeing it a lot more on the blog. I kept the rest of the look simple because of the all-over print of the cardigan.  A gorgeous burgundy lipstick brings out the similar color in the cardi and really seems to pull the whole thing together.  I can't wait to wear this whole outfit again!

Below I have a fancy little widget with other printed open cardigan options.  Most of these are also found at Macy's.  The above links and widget links are affiliate links, so if you decide to buy something via these links I do get a tiny percentage commission.  As the blog gets bigger, this totally helps me out.

Have you ever bought something you were on the fence about and it ended up being a favorite part of your wardrobe?

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Fall Favorite

Sartorial Medley is back, after a three month long hiatus, with a new commitment to timely posts!  If you are new to Sartorial Medley, here are the details:

It is time again for Sartorial Medley, a monthly themed fashion post hosted by myself and Aislynn of Aislynn's World.  (Did you miss the previous posts? Check them out!) We welcome participation from anyone, regardless of your dress size.  Email me your photo and link to your blog post  - diva (at) divinemrsdiva (dot) com.

To participate, even if you don't have a blog,  just Tweet/Instagram/Pinterest/etc. your photo with #SartorialMedley to be featured in the blog post.  We can't wait to see you rocking your outfits!  (Follow me on Twitter/Pinterest/Instagram @DivineMrsDiva.)

This month's theme is: Fall Favorite.

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Fall Favorite

For me, this theme is all about my fall uniform or ideal go-to fall ensemble.  As you know, I am crazy about my wide calf boots, having searched high and low for a long time to find some that fit me correctly.  I pull them out as early as I can and wear them every chance I get.  I have always had luck with boots from Avenue, though I can't say that I have tried on too many other brands.  I do know that as someone with a 21-inch calf size, the stretchy and lace-up Avenue boots fit me great!  My calves are now 19 inches, so I have a few more options but I still go back to Avenue.  (PS - If you need a pair of boots to fit your 21-inch calves, my lace-up pair are too big now and I need to sell them.  Email me.)

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Fall Favorite (Flor via Gwynnie Bee Mauve Lily Skater Dress)

So let's build my favorite fall look!  I started with this Flor skater dress via a recent Gwynnie Bee shipment.  Flor is a GB house brand that is only available through the Gwynnie Bee service.  While I don't feel the material is high quality (it's a polyester that seems to pill easily), I do feel that they are well made.  I love the silhouettes, patterns, and colors in the Flor line.  I just wish they would up their game with better fabrics.  This particular dress has a crossover V-neckline and a fuller than A-line skirt.  I love the style and ease of this dress.  The length is a little short for me on its own, so using it in a fall look with leggings is ideal for me.  The muted pinks, purples, and greens are so pretty.  I really do adore the unique patterns this brand uses in their garments.  (You may also remember that this blue and green leopard look is a Flor dress.)  I am wearing this dress in a 3X.  They carry up to a 5X.

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Fall Favorite
What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Fall Favorite

Cute dress. Leggings. Boots.  Check!  This sweater turned out to be the perfect shade of teal green to match the leaves in the pattern of the dress.  I lucked out with that.  I love the over-sized, cozy look of the outfit with the sweater that adds to that "fall" feel.  Finally, I added this gorgeous pink-toned, burgundy, sequined scarf I picked up recently from Wal-Mart of all places.  I don't shop there much, but the sequins caught my eye and I had to have this one.  They had a TON of colors in this soft knit with mini sequins scattered throughout.

Foxcroft Holiday Checklist: Plaid

Foxcroft Holiday Checklist: Bright Tartan Plaid Wrinkle Free Blouse - DivineMrsDiva.com

If you missed yesterday's post featuring the fabulous Foxcroft sweater, I encourage you to take a look and enter the giveaway to win your very own top from Foxcroft!!

Foxcroft Collection just launched a Holiday Checklist to keep your wardrobe ready for all the fun in the upcoming season.  The list includes classic and versatile pieces like a white button-down, denim, plaid, sweaters, and bold prints.  I am so excited about these Foxcroft pieces and bring you three more looks today with this fantastic plaid shirt!

In honor of the Holiday Checklist and the holiday season upon us, I created three looks with celebratory, seasonal events in mind.   First up is a laid back look for Thanksgiving dinner:

Foxcroft Holiday Checklist: Bright Tartan Plaid Wrinkle Free Blouse - DivineMrsDiva.com
Foxcroft Holiday Checklist: Bright Tartan Plaid Wrinkle Free Blouse - DivineMrsDiva.com

Not only are the colors of this button-down vibrant and fun, but the fit is really great.  I have the  hardest time finding a button-down top that fits me well because of my larger hips and smaller bust.  While the bust of this top may be a tad big, the hip portion really impressed me.  I can button it all the way down, sit down in it, and still have room to move!  The sleeves are a great length and also fit my larger upper arms comfortably.  Now that I've found an amazing place to get button-down tops, the possibilities are endless! (By the way, I am wearing this in a 24.)

I went for comfort with this look.  Nobody wants a tighter, restricting outfit for Thanksgiving.  Stretchy jeans, cute boots that are easy to pull off or put on, this comfortable and easy-to-wear top, and a great moto vest to keep warm come together in a fun look with color and texture.  I'm loving this moto vest too, y'all!  I have a few looks coming up soon with it as well.

Multi-strand Necklace - Vera Wang from Kohl's
Stretch Wide Calf Boots - Avenue

I love to throw a more work-friendly look into the mix.  Pencil skirts are so versatile as well.  This ponte skirt is stretchy and comfortable, but adds a great opportunity to do some pattern-mixing with the plaid.  I'm loving this combination so much!  Some would argue I should be wearing tights in the colder months and maybe they would look better, but I tend to get a bit warm when random people turn on the heat at their house or places of business.  I am rocking my very white bare legs for all the heat intolerant folks among us!

While this Foxcroft top isn't flimsy (it is extremely well-made), it is a thinner, silkier-feeling material that flows nicely and can be tucked in without adding extra bulk.  You can easily pop a camisole underneath for added warmth or coverage or an extra pop of color.  This particular top is their Wrinkle Free variety that does keep the wrinkles at bay very well.  There are places like the inner elbow or areas that were tucked under the waistband that became wrinkled after wear, but I feel like that is to be expected.  It certainly was very minimal compared to similar tops and all the wrinkles were quickly sent packing with a pass of my clothing steamer.

For a Christmas dinner look, I added some sparkle with a metallic belt and shiny necklace.  The full chambray skirt and flats are easy and comfortable; but the leopard print is another opportunity to pattern-mix in a low key way.

Foxcroft Holiday Checklist + Giveaway!

Foxcroft Holiday Checklist, featuring Square Dot Women's Cardigan + Giveaway - DivineMrsDiva.com

The weather has finally turned cold and rainy here and the holiday season is fast approaching!  Soon there will be family gatherings, dates with friends, dinners, work parties, and so much more to attend.  Of course we all want to look amazing at every function!

I was so excited when Foxcroft reached out to me recently about reviewing some of the pieces from their current collection.  They just launched a Holiday Checklist to keep your wardrobe ready for all the fun in the upcoming season.  The list includes classic and versatile pieces like a white button-down, denim, plaid, sweaters, and bold prints.

Each collection is "...inspired by signature prints, vibrant colors, and feminine shapes that celebrate a timeless sense of style."  I really feel that all the pieces they offer are clean and simple, but keep you looking polished in a variety of looks.  Timeless doesn't mean boring.  Foxcroft has some exciting prints in fantastic colors that lend a playfulness to their pieces.  Truly, I am so excited to share these ensembles with you that I had to do multiple outfits with both items!  Today I will show you this amazing sweater styled three ways (work, date, and casual), but come back tomorrow for three additional looks with a colorful plaid button-down!

This Square Dot cardigan is so well-made.  The material is thick and sturdy, yet soft and comfortable.  The colorful dots make me so happy!  It reminds me of confetti, which is kind of perfect for celebrating the holidays.  Obviously, this can go with so many colors, which makes it extra versatile in my opinion.  Foxcroft pieces are definitely not cheap, but the quality is amazing.  These pieces will last a long time and, because of their classic nature, will never go out of style.

Here, I am wearing the sweater over an equally colorful tank and pencil skirt.  I LOVE colorful outfits (as if you didn't know), but felt the black pieces anchored the bright colors and gave the whole look a more sophisticated feel.  The studded features in the belt mimic the square shapes in the sweater, which I thought was a fun detail.  I am wearing this swearer in a 3X.  The hips are a bit snug, but stretch to enable buttoning.  I chose to just button the middle buttons for the looks I wanted. The sweater held its shape very well.  The rest of the sweater fit like a glove, and while it was form fitting the material is thick enough that it seemingly smooths the areas I would normally need Spanx for.  Like HELLO, my butt looks crazy awesome with the sweater accentuating my curves.

For a date night, I amped up my amazing Eliza Parker dress with the sweater and a colorful turquoise necklace.  I added the thicker belt because of the volume of the skirt, but the skinny belt would look just as great.  The cardigan also features cute button details on the cuff.  It just adds a little something extra.

Lastly, I paired the sweater with a royal blue tank and yellow/orange statement necklace to bring out some different colors.  Distressed jeans keep it casual for shopping or hanging out with friends, while the sequin flats add sparkle and fun.  I would definitely wear this to a game night or even Friendsgiving, which is fast approaching!
