What I Wore: Electric Animal

DivineMrsDiva.com - Flor Electric Animal Drawstring Dress via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Active leggings, Lane Bryant Twisted Chain Statement Necklace, Life Stride Allito Flats

I bring you another item I tried from Gwynnie Bee, with another brand that was totally new to me.  Flor is a brand I hadn't heard of until browsing new selections to put in my virtual GB closet.  I've found it pretty hard to find out any information about the company, other than they have some great pieces available via Gwynnie Bee.  Styles range from wrap dresses to shift dresses to fit-and-flare dresses in lots of vibrant patterns.  Half of the seventeen pieces by the brand available on Gwynnie Bee's site are actually exclusive to GB.

Before I delve into my review, I just wanted to say that if you have been aiming to try Gwynnie Bee via their 30-day free trial, sign up now!  September 30th (today!) is the last day to sign up to try the free month of service.  After today, the free trial offer will cease to exist.

On with my review:

DivineMrsDiva.com - Flor Electric Animal Drawstring Dress via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Active leggings, Lane Bryant Twisted Chain Statement Necklace, Life Stride Allito Flats

This lively printed A-line dress is one of the items exclusive to Gwynnie Bee.  I absolutely love the green and turquoise leopard pattern with its swirls of tan and pale yellow that give it a worn-in or almost tie-dyed look.  The black blocking frames the pattern well, breaking it up just enough so it doesn't look too busy or crazy.  (Although I chose to mimic the wilder pattern with my naturally curly hair.)  The sleeves are a great length and fit my larger upper arms well, while the waistline features a sturdy drawstring that helps cinch in the waist for a more personalized silhouette.  To break up the pattern further, you could pop on a black belt of your choice.

The material is a very soft polyester spandex blend that is comfortable to wear, substantial but not too thick and bulky.  As this piece has been available for quite a while and highly used, it had some spots of pilling in more worn areas but seemed to be holding up nicely.  Flor also offers this style in a coral/teal/ivory floral print with the same black blocking.

I received this dress in a 3X which fit pretty darn well.  I think I would have preferred a little more room in the hips, but it still fit great and didn't make me overly self-conscious.  The bust, arms, and waist were a great fit with room for a little bloused affect.  Flor makes sizes 10/12 to 30/32.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Lane Bryant Twisted Chain Statement Necklace, Life Stride Allito Flats

I paired this dress with black leggings and my new champagne-hued flats.  I thought the lighter neutral would bring out some of the tan in the dress itself.  The shoes are my first purchase from Life Stride.  While I wish they had more cushion and support, they actually have some cushioning in them that provide way more comfort than any of the other flats I own. The necklace is a sale purchase from Lane Bryant that I just had to have because it is super sparkly and the gold-toned chain matched my highlighted hair so well.  In fact, I love it so much I also purchased the silver/purple version as well.

What I Wore: Fall Perfection

DivineMrsDiva.com - Kiyonna Sunset Stroll Bellini, Lane Bryant Lace-Trimmed Cami, Lane Bryant Genuis Fit Skinny Jeans, Avenue Perry Stretch Boots, Betsey Johnson Scarf

There is typical uniform I picture on myself when I think of fall - jeans, boots (now that I found some that fit my calves), a cute top with a cardigan, and a scarf.  It is this kind of outfit that is easy to throw on, comfortable, and perfect for almost any occasion in my neck of the woods.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Kiyonna Sunset Stroll Bellini, Lane Bryant Lace-Trimmed Cami, Lane Bryant Genuis Fit Skinny Jeans, Avenue Perry Stretch Boots, Betsey Johnson Scarf

When Kiyonna sent this Sunset Stroll Bellini to me, I was hoping fall would come a lot sooner.    I imagined it with an outfit just as I have presented it to you, but the weather has not been cooperative at all.  However, today things are cooling down and I foresee getting a lot of wear out of this great piece.

The stretchy fabric of this cardigan is lightweight enough not to be too warm, but also provides nice coverage.  I love how it hangs and gathers so beautifully.  The three-quarter sleeves are perfect for me because I tend to get too warm in other people's houses in the fall and winter months.  Sometimes finding that perfect cardigan for your body temperature is really difficult!  This is another reason why this cardigan and I will get along well.

The drawstring gathering has very long, thin ties that can also be used to tie in the back, creating more of a wrap top look.  I chose to wear mine more open in the front so all of the colors from my cami could peek out.  I am also really, really happy with the longer length of this piece.  When I'm wearing skinny jeans and boots, I tend to like more volume and length on top.  For reference, I am 5'9" and wearing a size 3X.

Kiyonna is carrying this Bellini in grey, blue, and a new burgundy color!

What I Didn't Wear: Prototype Animal Print Top

September has been insanely busy, y'all!  I welcome it because it is mostly fun stuff, but it does keep me from being as productive on the blog as I would like to be.  Today I bring you another installment of What I Didn't Wear, where I show you an item that just didn't quite work for me.

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Didn't Wear: Prototype Animal Print Top

This is the Peter Pan Collar Top in Animal Print by Prototype.  I tried it through Gwynnie Bee, as I had never heard of the brand Prototype before.  I am wearing it in a 3X and, while it had potential, it didn't fit the way I envisioned it would.

Out of the box, I loved the print.  It is a cheetah/leopard hybrid mix of print and color.  The Peter Pan collar was a cute touch as well.  But then the issues began.  The top is made from a thin, see-through material; plus, it is super short.  I made sure I was wearing a black tank underneath before I started photographing the top.  In the above photo, I pulled the smocked waist down as far as it would go towards my waist line.  It was still a good five inches too short.  The hem of the top was only a couple inches below my waist.

Below, I pulled the smocked waist up a bit to give it more of an empire silhouette.  I bloused the extra material out over the smocked part.  The top itself actually looked better this way, except for the fact that it was insanely short.  I would have been flashing skin had I not been in a separate tank.

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Didn't Wear: Prototype Animal Print Top

The other issue is the armholes.  They are massive.  It doesn't necessarily show on camera well, but the armholes are generously sized.  From this side view, you have a better look at just how short the top is.

If you are petite or have a really short torso, this might be a good top for you to try.  I'm just not sure.  I do love the print and the idea of the style, but I just don't think it was executed well in this.

I leave you with another example of how short this top is.  When I lifted my arms to undo the button at the back of the collar, this is what it looks like:

Have you tried the Prototype brand?  Have you had success with a different style from them?  I would love to hear your thoughts!

What I Wore: Summer Blues

DivineMrsDiva.com - Mynt 1792 Studded Chambray Shirt via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Swing Cami and Genius Fit Bermuda Shorts

According to Weather.com, a majority of you are still having hot summer temperatures going on.  While I certainly don't wish for the eight to nine months of rain that come with a Pacific Northwest fall and winter season, I do long for cooler temperatures and more fall-like crisp air.

In the meantime, I have been getting more use out of my shorts that I dared to buy this summer.  As I mentioned in a previous post, I haven't worn shorts since middle school - until this summer.  It has been exciting and a much needed break from my normal summer uniform of denim capris or maxi dresses.

I still love these shorts.  They have kept their shape well and don't ride up between my thighs.  The swing cami, also from Lane Bryant, is cut a little more loose through the mid-section so it isn't as clingy as most of their tanks.  I am so happy I ordered two colors when they had them online!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Mynt 1792 Studded Chambray Shirt via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Swing Cami and Genius Fit Bermuda Shorts

I was really excited to try this shirt when it arrived in my Gwynnie Bee package.  I have previously tried a couple jackets from Mynt 1792 and a few skirts, so I was happy I was able to try another type of item.  The ombre is a really great touch for this chambray shirt.  The collar features flat-tipped studs for a little something extra.  I thought it was such a fun embellishment!

I rolled up the sleeves for a more casual look, but was disappointed when the shirt wouldn't close around my hips.  I wear a 22/24 now and this 3X was just a bit too small in the bottom section.  As with most button-down styles of shirts for me, the fit is great in the bust in a smaller size, but useless for actually buttoning all the way down.  Wearing it open was so cute though, I didn't mind since I was only borrowing it.  Still, it is helpful to know the fit for any future purchases.

Diva In The Kitchen: Plated.com Review

A few weeks ago, a friend sent my husband a coupon for four individual meals (or two two-person meals) from Plated.com.  This site and service was totally new to me, so I thought it would be fun to try.  This is not a sponsored post, but I wanted to share my experience with the service and product in case it would be useful to any of you.

The idea behind Plated is that each week, seven chef-designed recipes are introduced as the menu.  They feature four meat and fish dishes and three vegetarian dishes.  You can choose what meals you want to make, pick a delivery day, and all the ingredients arrive on your door step.  Based in New York City, their website supplies that they use "local and seasonal produce whenever possible and source our meats from local, family-owned purveyors."

DivineMrsDiva.com - Diva In The Kitchen: Plated.com Review

We chose two gluten free options from that week's menu: Grilled Flatiron Steak with Potato Salad and Asparagus Salsa and Summer Vegetable Paella.  When choosing meals, you can also look at the calorie count, type of meal, difficulty, and prep time.  They provide information regarding whether the meal is gluten free, dairy free, vegetarian, low calorie, spicy, low cholesterol, etc. We received our box on time the day of our scheduled delivery.  Inside the box was a padded foil lining that held two big bags of ice (they were still half frozen when the box arrived), along with all the ingredients for the two recipes we chose.  On the outside of the padded lining were the 8x10 recipe cards.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Diva In The Kitchen: Plated.com Review

The ingredients were all packaged and labeled.  This level of organization is right up my alley!  Everything was fresh and ready to be prepared.

The large recipe cards feature a picture of the final product on the front with various cooking tips relating to that recipe.  On the back of the card is a list of the ingredients and step-by-step instructions (with pictures!) for preparing the meal.  Thanks to being able to have this handy recipe card on hand, I have already re-created the potato salad a couple times.

Here is another example of how everything is packaged.  The mustard and yogurt for this recipe were in little plastic containers, while the red wine vinegar was in a little bottle.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Diva In The Kitchen: Plated.com Review

The directions were very easy to follow.  I didn't compare our time of prep and cooking to the recipe, but I didn't feel that it took us too long to complete.

The portion size was as it should be per person.  The flavors went together really well to create a satisfying meal we probably wouldn't have thought to make otherwise.  I did end up adding feta to the meat dish at the end because I thought it would be tasty.  It was. lol

DivineMrsDiva.com - Diva In The Kitchen: Plated.com Review

Our second meal was the Summer Vegetable Paella.  Again, everything was freshly packaged and labeled. While this recipe was a little more involved, it was still easy to make via the clear instructions.  This was my first time making paella, so I was excited to try it.  The amount of flavor in this one dish really surprised and impressed both myself and my husband.  It had such simple ingredients.  Seconds were had for sure!  Plus, we still had enough leftover for another meal the following day.

The service is $10 a month, plus $12 a plate when you order your meals; or you can pay as you go for $15 a plate.  If you want to try it out, you can use my referral code to get two free plates when you make a full priced purchase.  While I know that the cost is pretty steep for a lot of people out there, the convenience and hassle-free portion of the service might just make up for it.

Have any of you used Plated.com before?  I'd love to know your experience and thoughts!

What I Wore: More Summer Stripes

It is still pretty warm here.  Ideally, it won't start raining until some time next month (because once it starts, it won't stop until May or June).  I'm going to keep the summer outfit posts coming until I can start dressing in more fall-like ensembles!

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Wore: Summer Stripes

At the beginning of summer, I tried on this striped maxi and loved it so much I bought both colors.  They have been great for mixing and matching with other colors in my wardrobe and having something fun and easy to throw on for a day. Comfort, staying cool, and looking cute are my ideal priorities to hit.

The black and tan one seemed a little more dressy to me. I don't know why.  I added the belt and really like the way it breaks up the stripes a bit more.  I think defining my waist that way gives it a little more shape.

What I Wore: Coral Heat

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Wore: Coral Heat

Last year when Lane Bryant put out these super comfy knit skirts, I went the practical route and bought a black one.  When they went on clearance, I went ahead and snagged a pink one because it was a solid color and would go with various things.  At this point I need to take them in so they don't fall to the floor when I put them on, which bummed me out, because they are absolutely awesome for summer and when you want to wear something cute that feels like pajamas.

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Wore: Coral Heat

Before summer started, I ventured to my local Lane Bryant outlet store to look around.  They usually have the best deals on jeans with a bigger selection of styles.  I did find jeans but, while browsing the clearance racks, I found this colorful knit skirt in my size!  I was so happy!!   It was a steal of a deal and made me really excited to sport a more bold pattern.  In the fitting room, I tried it on with a navy blue top and it looked really cute; But I wanted to amp it up with more color!

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Wore: Coral Heat

Shopping my closet, I remembered I had this great beige tank with vibrant orange embroidery.  It has an elasticized bottom (which I usually despise), bought with the sole intention of wearing it with my cream and black maxi skirt.  While my Amber shrug is neither the right shade of pink or orange, it is this awesome inbetweenie coral-pink shade that works well to bring everything together.  I was really happy with the end result!

What I Wore: Green Leopard

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Green Leopard Hi-Lo top, Lane Bryant Genius Fit Skinny Capris

I'm on a roll this week!  My goal is to post more summer outfits before summer is over!  Not that long ago, the husband and I went to a comedy show at our favorite local comedy spot.  It was a warmer day, but I wanted to be a bit more dressed up and I desperately wanted to wear this Torrid top I bought on a random visit to the store.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Green Leopard Hi-Lo top, Lane Bryant Genius Fit Skinny Capris
DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Green Leopard Hi-Lo top, Lane Bryant Genius Fit Skinny Capris

I first saw this top on Jessica Kane and LOVED it!  As it is sleeveless and sheer, I didn't expect to like it, but the color and pattern pulled me in and I had to at least try it on.  Anyway, I LOVED it and snapped it up immediately!  I'm wearing a black tank top underneath.  Because I still have that annoying hangup of showing my upper arms in public (although I don't mind posting my arms on the blog for whatever reason), I added the shrug for some coverage.

The capris have been so awesome for summer.  I bought them in black and purple.  They are stretchy and a thinner fabric then the denim, so they aren't super hot.  They do lose some shape after a few wears.  If I don't wash them, I toss them in the dryer for about ten minutes and they are good for a little while longer.

It was still a dressed up enough, but still relaxed and comfortable outfit perfect for our night out.  I can't wait to wear it in the fall with boots and jeans or leggings!
