Diva In The Kitchen: Pizookies!

Have you ever heard of a pizookie?  I first heard about them last year.  While they are one of the most awesome things on the planet, I kind of wish I didn't know about them. LOL

So you know I have to tell you now, right?  It's basically a warm cookie sundae.  You can keep it really simple with chocolate chip cookie dough and vanilla ice cream.  The cookie is warm and delicious, with crispy edges and a gooey center.  It is so delightful and comforting.  I would never steer you wrong.

- Cookie dough of your choice
- Ice cream of your choice
- Ramekins or small oven-safe bowls
- Chocolate or caramel syrup, if you so desire

- Preheat oven to 350.  Spray your ramekin or oven-safe bowl with a non-stick spray.  Fill your ramekin/bowl about half way with cookie dough.

- Pack it down well and smooth it out.  Pop the cookie in the oven for about 15 minutes.  You can eyeball the top of the cookie towards the end of cooking time.  Once it is golden brown, it is ready.

- Let the cookie stand for a couple minutes.  Top it with your ice cream and optional syrups.  Then bask in the warm, cookie comfort.

The ice cream melts fast!  So make sure you are ready to enjoy it once you put the ice cream on.

Don't be afraid to get creative with your combos.  You can do gingerbread cookie and pumpkin ice cream, oatmeal cookie and cinnamon ice cream, peanut butter cookie and chocolate ice cream, etc.  The possibilities are endless!

Q & A Monday: Dating

It is time again for another installment of Friend Makin' Mondays!  If you have a blog, I would like to invite you to answer the questions as well.  Leave me a comment here, so I know you are playing.  Then you can also leave a comment over at All The Weigh, so other folks can check out your answers as well.  It is a fun way to connect to other bloggers.

FMM: Dating

1. What is your current relationship status? (Be as specific as you’d like to be!)
 Happily married

2. List a few qualities that you look for in a significant other.
Smart, funny, loyal, understanding, kind, etc.

3. If you could choose to date one character in TV or film, who would you choose?  And which characteristics are most appealing?
Hmmm, When I was a kid, I had a crush on Luke Skywalker and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid.  Otherwise, I was all about Joe McIntyre from NKOTB.  I've had a thing for him for 24 years.  :-)
Somehow, I thought of Justin Matisse, Harry Connick Jr.'s character in Hope Floats.  I haven't seen that movie in a while, but I remember him being a sweetheart.

4. How long should you date before becoming exclusive?
I guess until you are ready.  I was never someone who dated a few guys at a time.  I don't like to juggle.

5. What are your thoughts on public displays of affection?
I don't mind hand holding, hugs, or short kisses for myself or done by others.  Anything more than that makes me feel very uncomfortable.  I hate being around people who are pawing all over each other and making out and stuff.

6. How has what you want in a mate changed throughout your life?
I always knew what I did and didn't want in someone.  When I was younger, I had a very long laundry list of characteristics, physical features, and skills any man I dated needed to possess.  I tweaked the list a bit as I grew up and included the deal-breakers as well.  And even though my husband isn't in a boyband, can't play the guitar, and doesn't have an Irish accent, he does have qualities and skills that I never even knew I wanted.  So I am lucky to have found him. :-)

7. Do you kiss on the first date?
I have, but I certainly don't think it is mandatory.

8. Would you date someone shorter than you?

9. What’s the first thing you notice about the opposite sex?
Eyes - if they are a pretty color and look kind and genuine, I'm hooked.  Also, great hair, nice smile, laugh, cleanliness.

10. Is it important to be friends first?
Very important.  It is great to get to know each other's personalities and just hang out and find out more about someone without all the romantic ideas polluting the waters with awkwardness.

11. How long should you wait before becoming intimate?
However long you want to.  I think it means different things to different people.  For me, I only wanted to be intimate with someone once I knew we were in a committed relationship.

12. Do you prefer to date older or younger?
I always liked older guys.

13. Biggest turn-on?
There isn't just one.  I can't think of something off the top of my head.  Sometimes it is just subtle stuff.

14. Biggest turn-off?
So many - Ignorance, racism, homophobia, sexism, smoking, bad hygiene, rudeness, any kind of annoyance. lol

15. Describe your dream date.
I still want to go to a big amusement park with my main squeeze.

Alrighty, your turn!

What I Wore: Sunny Sparkles

We are finally having some summery weather here in the PNW.  It started last week with some days of beautiful sun and has carried over into this week.  I certainly hope it continues!! *knock on wood*

This outfit is pretty simple.  I wanted bright summery color, sparkle, and to wear my as-yet-unworn sandals.  The evenings have been quite chilly, so jeans were more functional.  Basically, I desired to dress up my go to jeans and hoodie for those days when I am getting ready in a hurry.

I love wearing bright colors!  It makes me feel so much happier, and in turn, I hope that makes others happy.  We went out to visit my father-in-law in the hospital.  He is currently going through another round of chemo for leukemia.  He's doing pretty good thus far and we certainly love when he is laughing.  :-)

Coral tank - Old Navy
Turquoise jacket - Penningtons (Summer 2011)
Jeans - Avenue
Sandals - Lane Bryant
Necklace - Bought it from Tess Munster when she had her clothing sale
Bracelets - Torrid
Sunglasses - JCPenneys

How do you jazz up a casual go-to outfit?

Birchbox Review: June 2012

If you don't know about Birchbox, it is a monthly subscription service.  For $10 a month, you get a box of 4 to 5 high-end skincare, makeup, and/or hair care products to sample.  Sometimes there are also "lifestyle samples", like an organic granola bar, tea, etc.  Some products are even full-size!

It is a really fun thing to get in the mail!  Plus, I am a product junkie and love being able to try all these different products.  Check out the website for more information!

This month's theme is Jet Set.

Birchbox June 2012

Products included:

1. Comodynes Self-Tanning Intensive.  I haven't used these yet, though I am excited to try them on my legs.  I'm always skeptical of self-tanners because they usually come out so orangey and streaky.  This one isn't supposed to be either of those things, so I will have to try it out.
2. Masqueology Pore Minimizing Mask.  I loved the cooling effect of this mask.  It was easy to unfold and put on.  It felt nice and cool against my skin and didn't have any kind of major smell.  Be prepared to sit still for 20 minutes while wearing it because it doesn't stick to you.  It can slip around a little if you are moving around.  The result was hydrated, smooth skin.
3. Stila One Step Bronze.  I was really happy to get this product because I LOVE Stila.  This is actually a full-size product worth $36, which makes it even more exciting.  It seems a little bit dark to me, so I blend it out a lot.  The shimmer and bronzing are so pretty though.
4. theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen.  I will definitely be purchasing a full-size of this when I run out.  It looks like a bright, bloody red in the tube, but applies more muted in a pretty pink color.  You can easily layer it for more pigment.  It stains well and stays on for quite a while.  Even through eating and drinking, I didn't reapply for about 5 hours.  I also didn't really notice any "ringing", where the stain fades except for the outer or inner ring around your lips.  It stayed fairly even.
5. Tili Bags.  This is basically a slightly heavier-duty Ziploc bag with a design on it to carry your small carry-on beauty products or other such travel items. The edges are clear, but you can't really see through the pattern on the bag.
6. John Varvatos Star USA.  I'm pretty picky about man scents, but I like this.  It isn't really musky, more a nice, light scent great for summer.  I can definitely smell the juniper notes.  Mr. Diva seemed to like it too.

Please Vote For Me!

Hello, dahlings!!

I hope y'all are having a wonderful Wednesday!  I am imploring you to pretty please VOTE FOR ME in this neon jewelry contest from Bauble Bar.  If I win, I could receive a fun jewelry package.

It would really mean a lot to me.  Thank you in advance!!  You can vote once a day, though I am unsure what day the contest ends.

This is the picture I used for the contest :-)

Thank you!!!

Commenting Update

Just a quick note to say that I changed the commenting format so it uses Disqus now.  It seemed to be a more streamlined and user-friendly commenting system.

I imported all previous comments to Disqus, so they should show up.  However, they aren't in thread format.  So I apologize for that.  Also, the few comments that were left during the time I used Intense Debate did not get moved to the new system.

I just wanted to give everyone a head's up.  Let me know what you think of Disqus.  Feedback is welcome and encouraged.

Q & A Monday: What's In Your Bag?

I am pretty excited about today's topic because I cannot wait to see everyone's posts.  My purse is big and HEAVY.  Mr. Diva gives me crap for how heavy it is.  And yes, I tend to have shoulder, back, and neck problems from time to time because of it.  I just believe in being prepared for any circumstance. lol  So what's in my bag?

Check out other posts by visiting Kenlie of All the Weigh.  As always, if you participate in today's FMM on your blog, please link back to All The Weigh and leave a comment so everyone can visit you!

Snap a picture and show us what's in your bag!

 FMM: What's In Your Bag?

- Pink purse organizer I found at JCPenney's a couple months ago.  It helps so much to keep all my stuff in order.

- Pink Cleo and Patek Paris wallet.  This is the only wallet I have ever had that has lasted more than a year.  I've had it at least 3 years now and it looks fantastic.  Hasn't ripped or broken.

- Glasses in a glasses case.

- Keys.  I found a cute chihuahua key cover for my house key.

- Primatene Mist inhaler, just in case.

- Altoids tin of Ibuprofen and Imodium, just in case.

- Shout Wipes, Tide pen, Travel Lysol spray, little wet naps, and Band Aids.

- Sephora Slim Pink Atomizer filled with Falling In Love by Philosophy.

- Mini Bath and Body Works lotion of Summer Vanilla Berry.  It smells like strawberries :-)  I have so many little lotions.  I am trying to work through them all.

- Colorescience Pro Glow and Go Travel Puff .  I got this in a Birchbox.  It is basically a little powder-filled puff bronzer that you can use to give yourself some color throughout the day.

- Sephora Tea Tree Blotting Papers because I have very oily skin.

- Mirrored compact, business car tin with cards, one pink and one black ink pen.

- Reusable coffee mug sleeve, zippered pouch with floss sticks, zippered pouch of gift cards, travel hair brush, nail clippers, nail file, and a pile of napkins.

- Movie stub from Prometheus.

- MAC powder compact.

- Smashbox anti-shine compact.

- Anti-bacterial gel in sparkly holder.  These are both from Bath and Body Works.  Current scent is Island Nectar.

- I have an issue with always carrying too many lip products.  In my bag right now: MAC lipstick in Lustering, MAC lip glass in Steal My Heart, Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Tarnish in Caught On Tape , Jouer Birchbox Pink mini lip gloss (from a previous Birchbox), Jouer Lip Enhancer Lip Treatment mini (from a previous Birchbox), FRESH Sugar Lip Treatment SPF 15 mini (from the birthday gift from Sephora).

- Diva purse holder.  This thing comes in handy constantly and it keeps my purse off the floor.

- Little plastic box filled with Altoids.  The picture on the box is of the hotel in Oregon where Mr. Diva and I got married.

- Sunglasses

And not pictured:
- Ipod
- Cell phone
- Water bottle
- Digital camera in case
- Mini handheld fan (because my in-laws' house is too hot and stuffy for me and sometimes so is the FIL's hospital room.)

I weighed my purse just now and the scale said 5 pounds, though it feels heavier than my 8 pound chihuahua.

So what do you haul around with you??

Diva In The Kitchen: Mushroom Pizza

Today, I woke up to the sound of my house being pressure washed.  We're renting right now, so the Powers That Be wanted the awnings washed this week.  It wouldn't be that big of a deal, except that my dogs needed to go potty.  I let them out one by one on leashes (while still in my pajamas) and tried to rush them before the guy got to the back yard.

Once the fella made his way around to the back, I noticed that water was sputtering in the windows.  ALL of the windows leaked.  They have some kind of little vent in the top (and I am sure some are not caulked properly).  The windowsill in my craft room was a pool of water, running down the walls and everything.  The only one that didn't leak was our bedroom window because Mr. Diva taped up the vent when he put the air condition in.  (We can only use window units in the rental property.)

The guy was done by 11 AM.  I managed to clean all the windows, shower, and have lunch ready by the time Mr. Diva came home.  I am glad coffee was set up to brew automatically because I needed it this morning!

Unrelated to the above story is my recipe for tasty mushroom pizza.  I haven't had too much extra time to cook or try many new-to-me recipes, opting instead for quick and easy and tried and true.  One thing we found works well for us on busy weekdays is a homemade pizza.  Everything can be chopped and prepped early in the day or week if you want to save some more time.

Mushroom Pizza

  • 1 container of grape tomatoes
  • 1 or 2 red bell peppers
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and Pepper
  • Sauce of your choice (I used Newman's Own Sockarooni and Classico Light Alfredo)
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • Lots of cheese! (I used mozzarella and some Gruyere I had leftover)
  • 2 containers of sliced baby bella mushrooms
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, finely minced
  • Store bought pizza crust

Prepare a baking sheet and turn oven to 400.  Chop the bell peppers into small strips and spread out on the sheet pan with the grape tomatoes.  Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, and toss it all together.  Spread them out in a single layer and roast in the oven for 20 to 30 minutes.  (This step can be done in advance so the roasted veggies are ready to go when dinner time comes.)

On another prepared baking sheet, spread the pizza crust out as evenly thick as possible.  Follow package directions for pre-baking pizza crust.  (I believe it is 375 for 10 minutes.)

Spread your choice sauce on the crust, leaving about a half inch or so around the edges.  (I mixed half Sockarooni and half Light Alfredo.)  Top with a little bit of cheese, pepper, roasted tomatoes and peppers, and onions slices.

Then add all the mushrooms, a bit more cheese, sprinkle it with the thyme, add some more fresh ground pepper, and bake it until done.  (Same temp as crust for about 25 minutes.  Eyeball the cheese to know about when it is done.)

Q & A Monday: Bedroom Habits

Don't get too excited!  It's nothing freaky or inappropriate.  But please read it anyway. LOL

Today's fun with questions is brought to you by Kenlie of All the Weigh.  As always, if you participate in FMM on your blog, please link back to All The Weigh and leave a comment so everyone can visit you!

 FMM: Bedroom Habits

1. Do you set an alarm clock? If so, for what time?
I use the alarm on my cell phone.  It is set for 9 AM usually.

2. How many hours of sleep do you get on an average night?

On average, I probably get about 7 hours a night.

3. Do you bring your laptop to bed?

No.  I try to finish everything I need to do on my desktop before I call it a night.

4. How many pillows do you require to sleep?

I have a regular pillow and a Snoogle pillow.  Because I'm a side sleeper, the Snoogle helps my neck and back.

5. Do you sleep with socks on?

No.  I hate to have socks on my feet when I go to bed.  The only reason I would ever wear socks to bed is if I was doing a moisturizing foot treatment or my toes were icicles.

6. How often do you change the sheets?
Once a week.

7. Do you remember your dreams?
Sometimes.  Often when I go to tell my husband about them in the evening, I forget what it was.  I think I remember the feelings of the dream more than the actual details.

8. Which side of the bed do you sleep on?
Right now, I sleep on the right side of  the bed (if you are facing the bed).  I think it worked out that way because my husband uses the small bedroom closet for his clothes, so he can get ready for work on his side without really interrupting my sleep.

9. How often do you take naps?
Hardly ever.  I just have too many things that need to get done and I hate the thought of not multi-tasking.  Naps are usually taken if I am feeling ill or didn't sleep well the night before.

10. Do you sleep soundly?
I seem to.  Once I'm asleep, not too much can wake me up.

There you go!  Happy Monday!!

What I Wore: Animal Attraction

Hello, dahlings!!

I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  Part of my weekend fun was helping my mother-in-law celebrate her birthday.  Mr. Diva and I took her to the movies and out for yummy pizza before chillin' at the house with her and my father-in-law.  He goes back into the hospital for another round of chemo, starting today, so I hope we were able to bring some happy to them.

In celebration of the MIL's birthday, I finally had a chance to wear my leopard jacket from Torrid.  I acquired it last month with the help of my birthday coupon!  I've definitely come to love wearing prints.  I usually opt for more color, but this jacket is so great and very versatile.  I was wearing it with a silver crystal heart necklace because I didn't have a proper colorful neck piece to wear with it.

After I got my hair cut at Penney's on Saturday, I was looking at the jewelry and found the one I'm wearing in the pictures.  I loved the rhinestones and the pop of neon pink.  I felt it went really well with the jacket and was just what I was looking for.  Later on, I paired it with my pink bracelets to complete the ensemble.

Leopard Open-Front Jacket - Torrid
Maxi Dress - Lane Bryant (2011)
Neon Pink and Rhinestone Necklace - JC Penney's (didn't see it online)
Pink Stud Wrap and Day Glo Chain Bracelets (pictured below) - Bauble Bar

I'm bummed that my makeup didn't photograph as I had intended though.  My lips were bright pink and my eyeshadow had a hint of purple.  It was very fun.  I'm still learning what works and doesn't work as far as posing and makeup and photographing the outfits.

What's your favorite print?  Or have you recently bought a great printed garment that you never thought you would?

In Order and Review

A couple months ago, I entered a giveaway from Jessica Kane and In Pink.  I won two gift cards in the giveaway (SUPER EXCITED) and forgot to share my order with you.

Each item was wrapped in tissue paper and placed in this silver and pink box with the company's logo.  The box is adorned by some cute beads on a stretchy cord.

Here is my order:

Rose Gold Tone Earrings with Large Rhinestones - $34

These are very pretty and sparkly in person.  They are a good size too.  I wore them for my birthday a few weeks ago.  I should also mention that they aren't extremely heavy, so they were not uncomfortable to wear.

Rose Gold Tone Set Stones Stretch Bracelet - $28

The stones are very pretty and sparkly, but the bracelet is very small.  If you have a larger wrist, this will not fit you comfortably.  (My wrist is about 7 1/2 inches.)  My bracelet was missing a stone when I received it.  When I emailed customer service to see about an exchange, they sent me another one free of charge.  That was really awesome of them and lucky for me, because I was then able to take both bracelets apart and restring them as one to fit me.  I made barrettes with the extra beads.

Multicolored Heart On A String Dangle Earrings with Rhinestones - $14

These are very pretty in person.  Lots of sparkle!  One of the findings that goes on the back of the post is a little loose, but otherwise, they are great.

Multicolored Delicate Leaf Necklace and Earring Set - $22

This set looks great in person.  The necklace is very long (which I love) and the different metallics are great.  It is very lightweight, so it doesn't pull at your neck at all.

There you go!  That's what I used my gift cards on.  I was thrilled to have won them and really appreciate the opportunity to enter the giveaway.  Thanks Jessica and In Pink!
