What I Wore: Pink and Leopard

DivineMrsDiva.com - SWAK Designs Pretty Cami, Avenue Sid Lace Back Boots, Torrid Leopard Jacket and Jeggings, GroopDealz necklace, Miche handbag

Sean and I haven't been on a proper date in months and months.  I am not even sure when we last went on an actual date because we moved into our house at the end of July, spent a lot of time unpacking and organizing, prepared for our housewarming party, and then I found out I had cancer.  The last few months have been focused on the dumb Throat Monster and not much else.  So finally, we took ourselves out on a fun date!

We had sushi and went to the wonderful Helium Comedy Club to see Tracy Morgan do stand-up.  We drank some tasty alcoholic coffee drinks and came home and made out.  It was such a fun night that we thoroughly enjoyed!

I wanted to be sexy and sassy, so a few days before the date I put this outfit together.  I love my jeans and boots combo because they are practical and comfortable and make me feel confident.  It had been a while since I wore my leopard jacket, so that was a no-brainer.  My shirts all fit a bit bigger these days, so I wanted something that was easily belted just in case.  Believe it or not, this was the first time wearing this cami I bought from SWAK.  This is a 4X and this style runs big because of the way it is cut.  At this point, I might size down to a 2X.

I LOVE the way this top flows though.  It is so pretty and feminine and comfortable. I need more colors because this top has become a new obsession of mine.  I do wish the straps were adjustable because they are quite long on me and I had to safety pin them to my bra, but that is really my only complaint.  Belting it made this cute peplum-like look that I adore.  I felt super beautiful and sexy without any fussiness, which is always awesome.

What I Wore: Turquoise Floral

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid babydoll tank, SWAK Designs Amber shrug, Old Navy dark wash skinny jeans

Two of my clothing obsessions for the past year are the babydoll tank from Torrid and the Amber shrug from SWAK.  They are great pieces to mix and match, dress up or down, and have for general go-to purposes.  I've been snatching up the tanks when they go on sale and have about eight of them in various patterns and colors.  They are longer than an average top, but fit so well and always make me feel cute.

I have praised the Amber shrug from SWAK before, but seriously, I LOVE this shrug!  I have it in five colors now and always look for more.  SWAK has been bringing more and more awesome pieces to their website, so I would definitely encourage you to take a look.  I find that most pieces are cut generously, so I usually size down.

I wore this outfit to Thanksgiving dinner at my cousin's house.  It kept me super comfortable and allowed me to eat an abundant amount of "cancer diet" approved vegetable dishes, which made me feel like I wasn't missing out on the fun of Turkey Day.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Sartorial Medley: Garnet, Torrid Leopard Skinny Jeans, Torrid Booties, eShakti Peplum Top, GroopDealz necklace

Although garnets are found in many colors (the rarest being the blue garnet), red garnet is the birthstone for January, hence this month's theme. I have posted previously about trying to add more red to my wardrobe.  I'm still working on that, but for today's post I pulled out a favorite from my eShakti purchases.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Sartorial Medley: Garnet, Torrid Leopard Skinny Jeans, Torrid Booties, eShakti Peplum Top, GroopDealz necklace

This peplum top is from eShakti last spring, but I loved it so much I bought three colors.  For this one, I customized it by adding longer sleeves and I just adore it.  The knit makes it easy to wear and take care of and super comfortable.  I also brought in more red via my necklace.  I have these in a bunch of colors and just love how big and fun they are.  They can add such a pop of color to any outfit as well.

Now, I have to point out the jeans - they are leopard print!  I was so excited about buying these when they went on clearance because I was really stepping outside of my comfort zone.  The pattern isn't loud, but it is a pattern nonetheless - one that I never would have worn on my bottom half before.  When I ordered them, I somehow ordered them a size smaller and they didn't fit well.  Since I have recently lost some weight with my lifestyle changes, I tried them on again.  Not gonna lie, I was really excited to start rockin' them on a regular basis.  However, I need to get them altered because the legs are too big and the length seems too long. The waist fits well though.  *sigh*  Such is life.  I'm getting closer to being ready for a wardrobe sale soon!

Q & A Monday: Quick and Easy Questions

Hey y'all!  Another weekend has come and gone.  It was our last "sort of free" weekend this month, but it still ended up being rather busy.

Friday was date night for Sean and I.  We ate sushi for dinner and went to see Tracy Morgan perform stand-up at Helium Comedy Club.  It was so much fun, with lots of laughs and some tasty drinks!  We didn't get to bed until really late and then had to be up super early to get ready and take the fur boys to the vet.  After the vet, we took the mother-in-law with us to a tasty fish restaurant that she had yet to go to.  Yum yum!  Then, because my clothing is getting more ill-fitting on me, Sean surprised me with a trip to the Lane Bryant Outlet to get some new jeans.

Anyway, today (Sunday) was a totally lazy day, though we did get my sewing machine set up in the craft room and managed to hang a new light at my desk.  I hope you all had a lovely weekend filled with fun!

It is time again for Friend Makin' Monday.  If you have a blog, I would like to invite you to answer the questions as well.  Leave me a comment here, so I know you are playing.  Then you can also leave a comment over at All The Weigh, so other folks can check out your answers as well.  It is a fun way to connect to other bloggers.

Quick and Easy Questions

1.  What time did you go to bed last night?
Last night we got in bed around midnight and watched SNL.  We ended up falling asleep towards the end, so it was probably 2 or 2:30 by the time we fell asleep for reals.

2.  What is the last thing that made you smile?
Rusty (our 17-year-old chihuahua) was passed out on the couch for HOURS.  He was so comfortable he just didn't wake up at his usual dinner time.  We are getting ready for bed and Sean heats up his food and blows the scent to Rusty, who was not waking up from me petting him or calling to him.  Once his nose got the scent, he held his head up, looked around, and popped up so quick!  It was quite funny!

3.  What is the last movie you watched?
Sean and I watched Oblivion today.  Tom Cruise is so cute, but I just can't stop thinking about how crazy he is too.  I guess the movie was kind of predictable (at least to my husband), but I enjoyed it.

4. What did you have for breakfast today?

Well.....we slept in so we didn't have breakfast.  We ended up making nachos for lunch and it was delightful!

5. Would you rather mop all of your floors or do laundry?

Do laundry!  The machines do most of the work that way and I can listen to podcasts while I fold and put stuff away.

6. Do you drink coffee?

Yes.  I usually have it a few times a week.

7.  Will you watch the Superbowl?
My husband will, but it doesn't really intrigue me so I may just be hanging out with him and doing stuff on my laptop or iPad while he watches the game.

8. How often do you shop for groceries?

About once a week ish to get fresh produce since that is the majority of the food we eat.

9.  What kind of workout will you do today?
Maybe some elliptical or exercise bike after dinner.   I will see if I can get to my chubby yoga DVD today.

10.  Do  you use a fitness tracker?

Nope.  My clothes tell me when I lose weight or whatever.  I don't like obsessing over weight or food or what not.....

Quick Reader Survey...

 A few questions for y'all:

1- Would you be interested in seeing video reviews of some of my favorite products/clothing items?  This would probably be a monthly thing to go over my most used at the time stuff.

2- Would you be interested in seeing video reviews of things I have recently purchased?  This would be whether I liked it or not, just an honest review of clothing or beauty products or even household items.

3- Do you have any questions you've wanted to ask me? I'd like to do a Q&A video as well. These questions could be about anything - fashion, beauty products, personal questions, queries about the universe.  I will do my best to answer all the questions I can.

Let me know what you think in the comments below or email me. And if you are feeling shy, you can ask me anything anonymously!!

I look forward to hearing from you all and thank you in advance!

Christmas Day Fun!

Y'all know I am behind in posting events in a timely manner, and by now you know why.  I'm hustling to get caught up!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Christmas Day Fun!

Christmas Day was the first day I felt good after surgery.  I had energy and minimal pain and just felt happy.  Sean and I slept in a bit before getting up to prepare breakfast.  Christmas Day is also Sean's birthday, so we have a tradition of having cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  This year we bought gluten-free cinnamon rolls that turned out not to be that tasty.  Thankfully we had some gluten-free waffles (delicious) and some scrambled eggs as a backup.  After breakfast we opened presents and started getting ready for my mom-in-law to come over.

We took it easy in the afternoon and just spent time together.  Right after my mom-in-law came over in the early evening, my friend Sami stopped by with a tasty gluten-free pumpkin pie.  She chatted with us for a few minutes before heading to her family gathering.

We ate a tasty meal that my mom-in-law prepared, opened presents she brought for us, and had dessert.  I started getting really tired around 6pm and needed to rest my neck.  At this point, once I used my neck to hold my head up for a while, I started to get this choking feeling, like someone's hand was tightening around my neck.  The rest of the evening I was on the couch with my ice pack.

The day after Christmas, my sister-in-law brought my niece and nephew over.  It had been a while since we saw them last, so it was fun to watch them open their gifts and take them on a tour of the house.  While my sis-in-law and I had a chat, Sean kept the kids busy by letting them play on the elliptical machine.  They had way too much fun!

All in all, it was a wonderful holiday!  I am so glad I felt good enough to really be able to enjoy it.

Did y'all do anything fun or get a really great gift?  Catch me up on your goings on!

Q & A Monday: Taboo Topics

Hey y'all!!

I hope Monday has been kind to you!  I had a productive weekend doing house-related chores and projects.  Getting the craft room in order is top of my list this week, as I have a TON of crafting projects to work on and a new sewing machine to set up and learn how to use.  Totally excited about that!

Sean and I stayed home and worked on the house, so that is the extent of my eventful, yet not eventful, weekend.  It was gloriously lovely to have a weekend at home with no plans and actual energy!

Taboo Topics

1. Are you a registered voter?
Absolutely.

2. Do you believe in God?
No, I do not.

3. How has your readership changed since you first began blogging?
When I first started blogging, my posts were sporadic and very few people read my blog.  Through the years, readership has grown slowly but steady.  People have started to comment more and I've been able to develop some relationships with company's that allow me to be seen by a wider audience. I find communicating with my readers has been one of the most enjoyable things of the whole experience and I welcome that participation.

4.  If you could choose between a serious relationship or $100,000, which would you choose?
If it was between my relationship with my husband and $100,000, I would take my husband without a second thought. If it was between some random dude and the money, I would take the money of course.

5. Have you ever changed political parties?
As a registered voter, no.  Overall, I was raised along the ways of thinking of the party opposite of what I believe in now.  So in my lifetime thus far, I have certainly changed my way of thinking.

6.  If you were put in a position in which you had to be in a room with someone that you can’t stand, how would you handle the situation?
haha In my world, that used to be called family get-togethers.  I make it a habit not to be around toxic people, but when in a situation where I have no choice, I try to only focus on the people I like so I don't have to deal with the person I don't like.

7.  Do you ever eat in secret because you don’t want anyone to see what you consume?
I eat pretty healthy these days and when I am naughty I am not eating alone.  My husband is my partner-in-crime. lol  I don't really feel like other people should be policing my choices anyway.  I don't police theirs.

8.  Do you use curse words in your daily conversations?
Daily conversations with myself and my husband - certainly.  I have a major potty mouth.  However, I try to keep the bulk of my cussing inside my house with minimal witnesses.  I do cuss around friends I know, but not around people I don't know well.  And, of course, I have to remind myself not to cuss around kids.  I forget kids are there. lol  Mostly, I try to NOT cuss in public or outside of my house.....sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don't.

9.  How much do you tip when you’ve had decent service at a restaurant?
I'm not usually the one that pays the bill.  But when I do I try my best to leave a great tip for great service.

10.  How do you respond when someone confronts you?
My years of living in houses where yelling, hitting, and countless verbal abuse was common place has made me rather shy of confrontation.  I don't like it.  I don't handle it well at all.  I guess it depends on how they come at me and what the subject is.  If they are being passive aggressive, I ignore them and walk away.  If they are aggressive verbally or yelling, I start crying and try to get away from them.  If they are accusing me of things that aren't true, I muster my strength and try my best to stand up for myself.  Usually whatever I am feeling - anger, upset, frustration, confusion - just comes out in tears, which is really maddening.

I hope you all have a great week filled with fun and no drama!!  Please feel free to link up with Kenlie and let me know your thoughts as well!

What I Wore: Sequins and a Scar

The Saturday after my surgery (7 days post-op) was Bunco time!  I was pretty excited to see friends and family and have some fun after a week in the house with minimal contact.  It was also the first time people were seeing me in person (and my scar) since surgery.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid jeggings and sequin jacket; Lane Bryant sequin tank, lace-trimmed tank, and belt; Avenue boots

I felt really nervous that morning when I left the house and headed to my hair appointment.  I had to explain why I didn't want to lean back at the hair washing station while taking off my scarf and showing my hair stylist what was going on.  She was totally sweet about it all and made me feel really at ease.  I ran into another friend at the salon as well.  Talking with all of them made me a lot more relaxed about my scar not being some weird eye sore.  And technically, it looked a LOT better than I thought it would, considering a week prior some nice surgeon had sliced me open and cut and scraped things out of my neck as he dug around in there.  I mean, really!!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid jeggings and sequin jacket; Lane Bryant sequin tank, lace-trimmed tank, and belt; Avenue boots

This Bunco was dubbed Fancy Bunco as a sort of Holiday/NYE party.  I had intended to wear my sequin skirt.  However, it was still hard for me to bend over and, frankly, I didn't have the energy or the desire to deal with shaving my legs. Enter my trusty Torrid jeggings that now fit me and the sequin jacket I had yet to wear!   The great thing about the jacket is that the under part of the arm is made of a stretchy knit fabric so you aren't just rubbing sequins together as you move around.

While the good part about losing weight has been that some clothes fit better or just plain fit, the bad part is that a lot of things are just big enough to look sloppy and ill-fitting.   In fact, most things are kind of at that point now.  I could NOT find a top to wear with this jacket.  I tried on at least ten tops. They were too big, too long, too weird of a neckline, arms too snug with the jacket, etc etc.

Then I remembered - BELTS!!  DUH!  This over-sized sequin tank looked so much better once I added the belt.  It is also a kind of see-through top, hence the lace-trimmed tank.  I actually love the lace peeking out of the top.  I think it is a great feminine touch.

What I Wore: Plaid and Boots

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Plaid Shirt and jeggings, Avenue Stretch Riding Boots

I'm back with another outfit post!!  At the beginning of December, we attended the Festival of Trees.  It is this fun little event with big, beautiful Christmas trees that are dripping with ornaments and ribbons and sparkles.  Each tree is done by theme or color scheme, so it is a lot of fun to see what people come up with.  They also have a section of little decorated trees and decorated wreaths as well.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Plaid Shirt and jeggings, Avenue Stretch Riding Boots

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Plaid Shirt and jeggings, Avenue Stretch Riding Boots

I chose to be super comfortable and practical for all the walking around we would be doing.  Wearing my new plaid shirt from Torrid and my newly acquired Avenue boots was top on my priority list.  I bought the plaid shirt in a 4 and it fits really well.  I maybe could have sized down, but I doubt it would fit my hips then.  I wanted the option of buttoning it all the way or having it open, so I went with the bigger size.  You can't really see the tank underneath, but it was a dark purple with sequins that matched the purple of the plaid very well.

The boots are super comfortable.  I have been on the lookout for brown boots this year and jumped at these riding style boots when Avenue had a big sale.  I wear an 11 and, with the stretch panel in the back, they fit my 21-inch calves very well.  I wish I bought them in black too!  Most of the boots are on clearance now, so I encourage you to go check out the website!

Here's an accessory shot with my giant bag.  When walking around the convention center, I have to use a crossbody bag so I don't hassle with my shoulder bag. lol This particular bag is also large enough to hold the kitchen sink, so I can shove any paper goods or things we buy at the event into the bag without carrying around multiple things.

Do you have a favorite casual event outfit?  Something you might wear to a convention to make life easier?  Let me in on your secrets!

Q & A Monday: Random Qs

I had to miss some Q & A Mondays simply because it was hard to sit at my desk after surgery.  I still have the occasional neck pain and what not, but I can sit at my desk now, which I love!  So typing is back in business!  I hope to have a couple outfit posts up this week as I try to catch up with things I missed telling you about in December.

Random Qs

1.  What has been your happiest moment in 2014 so far?
Sean and I went to dinner Saturday night with friends at one of our favorite places to eat. It was a bit of a joint birthday celebration for my husband and our friend.  We ate way too much, drank more than usual, and just had an amazing time hanging out and talking.  I actually felt almost normal. I would also add that all the one-on-one time I have spent with my husband lately has been my favorite thing too.  :-)

2. Share the last compliment you received.

My friends told me how great I looked on Saturday and my husband told me I am super sexy.

3.  What is one thing that you plan to accomplish in the next week?

I plan to get a few craft projects done, work on the blog finally, and edit photos.

4.  What is your favorite TV show currently on air?

Parks and Rec!

5.  If you could go anywhere in the world free for the next two weeks, where you go?
Well, normally I would say Ireland, but I am sure it is pretty cold there right now.  Therefore, if I had to go somewhere right now, I'd go to Hawaii.

6.  Describe a significant event in your life that caused you to change your values system.
Hmmmm......I can't think of just one thing.  I was raised in a way that promoted insane amounts of ignorance and hate towards people of different races, people from different regions of the US, people who were different from me, etc.  But as a young middle-school student, a majority of my friends were black and I realized that the things I was being taught at home were not true.  I realized that black people were just people like every one else and there was nothing to be scared of or grossed out by.  And that is probably the time I started raising myself as far as ways of thinking and values that I felt were important and ideas I didn't want to carry with me as I grew up.

7.  What made you decide to live where you currently live?
City/State-wise it was just a progression.  After my parents got divorced, I lived with my dad and my stepmom (in South Carolina) until she was so evil to me that I thought about killing myself, so I moved in with my mom and stepdad in Georgia.  My stepdad is from Washington State and ended up getting transferred up here about a year after I moved in with them.  Aside from a few attempts at living in other states, I had to come back for financial reasons.  I finally managed to get my own apartment out here and then I met my husband.  He's from here and we just bought a house. lol

8.  What is the first thing that comes to mind when you think about GOD?
The first thing that comes to my mind is all the hate and judgement people spout in God's name.  Those people and that way of thinking are why I choose not to be religious or believe in such things.  A majority of the people I have known that claim to be such faithful Christians have been the most hateful, awful, hypocritical people I have ever met and I choose not to associate with people like that.

9.  If you could have a long conversation with someone famous (and alive now) who would you choose?
Neil deGrasse Tyson.  I love me some NDT!

10.  List three things that you’re thankful for today.
  • My husband for being an amazing person.
  • The fact that I have a roof over my head.
  • My sweet chihuahuas for keeping me company and helping me stay warm.

There you go! Link up with Kenlie and let me know you are playing, or answer the questions here in the comments if you like. I hope you all are having a great 2014 so far!
