Diva On A Budget: JCPenney Doorbusters!!

Yesterday, I woke up to a text message from my lovely sister telling me that JCPenney had a HUGE sale going on.  So after I had some coffee and a bagel, I logged on to check it out.

I am so glad I did!!!  They have some excellent deals going on online and in-store. I even found a valance for my bathroom after a month-long search on every website imaginable.  Here is what Mr. Diva and I got for less than $70.

Microfiber King Sheet Set - We already own these in the Ogee Brown and Green Clay colors.  They are cool and smooth, soft and comfortable.  They fit our deep mattress really well also.  Because of the sale, we ended up getting the Blue Dusk and Merlot colors.  The set is $35 online, but in-store we only paid $20 each for them.  Considering they are $60 sets, that is extra AWESOME!

Spice Oblong Accent Pillow - Bought this for the bedroom.  It will go great with our decor.  $60 pillow for $10!

Audrina Valance - I bought this valance in the light pink color to go with my bathroom decor.  I was worried about other valance fabrics because I needed a fabric that would withstand moisture well.  This valance is made from a polyester/nylon which feels like a fabric shower curtain, so it ended up being perfect for my space.  $30 valance for $15.

So check out the sale for yourself.  You may find some things you have been looking for!!

Diva On A Budget: Target find!

I was browsing around Target with my mother-in-law yesterday.  They had SO MANY shoes on clearance.  I have a BIG foot (size 11), plus my foot is a bit wide; it is very rare to find shoes that fit me well at Target.  There were only a few 11s in all the clearance shoes and most of them didn't fit well.  And then I found the above sparkly, zebra shoes and they FIT.  They were on sale for $3.24!  YAY!!

So I encourage you all to go check your local Target's clearance sections and find some great deals!

Winnie Holzman and her daughter ROCK!

I ran across this article and wanted to share it.  Winnie Holzman created my favorite television show of all time - My So-Called Life.  And in this article, I just found out she also wrote Wicked, which I also LOVE.

Turns out that her daughter created a television show called Huge, which I have been watching lately.  It is about kids at a fat camp.  Enjoy the article!

Karaoke Revolution Glee!

There will be a Karaoke Revolution Glee edition!!!  I am super excited!

Diva In The Kitchen: Recipe Recommendations

Once I finally had our new kitchen *mostly* organized, it was time to start cooking again.  I checked out some of my Rachel Ray magazines from last summer and pulled out a few of the weekly menus.  We chose the May 2008 menu.  It is such a great tool because it has the shopping list of what you need on it.  It helps save SO MUCH time.

It took a couple of weeks to make all the recipes because we had leftovers some days or went out to eat or I just didn't feel like cooking.  Last night I finally finished making the last of the 7 recipes and wanted to recommend the best ones to you.  All these recipes are from the May 2008 issue of Everyday with Rachael Ray and can be found on Rachael Ray magazine website.

Here are my top picks:

(With this recipe, I sauteed half an onion, a red bell pepper, and a good amount of garlic before adding the peas and such.  And then I also added a handful of crumbled bacon into the sauce.  I have a great idea for a Mexican version of this which I will share once I make it.)

(Serve over Jasmine rice. YUM!)

(The tuna I used seemed a bit fishy to me and I am not a fan of that too fishy flavor.  Next time I make this, I am gonna cook some chicken in pesto sauce and chop it up in chunks and add it to the pasta mix.  Those flavors will all go together very well.)

Valancing Act

Apparently only cutesy baby rooms and country grandma kitchens need valances these days.  That is not acceptable because I need a valance that doesn't fit into either category.

At our new place, my bathroom has a small frosted window.  While no one can really see in, I still don't feel comfortable without a curtain there.  It just bothers me, especially at night.  So I need a 15" to 18" long curtain to use on the bottom half of the window because I still want the light coming in.

My bathroom decor is champagne, ivory, and light pink colors with black accents - kind of Paris glamour.  (HERE is a picture of part of the set.  It is rare, it seems, so I couldn't find a better picture at the moment.) I have looked EVERYWHERE for a coordinating color of valance that isn't too expensive and have only two contenders to show for it.

 The Circo Ruffle Valance

and the Tadpoles Tulle Valance

*sigh*  I don't know what to do about it still....Any ideas?

Here are two pillows that match my bathroom decor for reference:

More Organizational Tools!

We went to Ikea on the 5th during our errand running.  We were able to find a few great organizing options for our much smaller spaces in the new place.  The bathrooms are a third the size of our old ones, so that has been a challenge.  I have basically ZERO counter space and no drawers for all my stuff.

Here is what I did end up getting for my bathroom though:
This goes on the small, thin counter space above the toilet.  It actually holds quite a bit.

These hold my comb and hairbrush and toothbrush/toothpaste/floss stick.

I still need to go back and get this corner unit since I now know it will fit on the wall:

We are still trying to figure out how to add wall storage in the tiny laundry room, in my husband's bathroom with minimal wall space, and in the office.  It is a chore, I tell ya!
