Christmas PJs

I had to go to Lane Bryant to return a sweater I bought online because it was the wrong size.  I decided to exchange it for some things in-store, so I found my Christmas pajamas!

I also picked up this tunic top:

This is the sweater I returned. It was very cute though and I hope to get it in the right size soon.

And since I have been so bad about posting lately, I will show you some PJs I bought a couple months ago:
This top is SO comfortable and really cute!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone!

I hope you all have a yummy and warm Thanksgiving with your family and friends!

I will be going to the movies with Mr. Diva (not sure yet what we will see.  I have a long list.)  And we have a family get-together in the afternoon.  Friday is our cleaning day in preparation for our family gathering at our house on Saturday.
If you go out shopping on Friday, be safe!  I am gonna shop online because I have little patience with big crowds.

Sparkle and Shine

Hello all!  I hope you are having a great week.  I went out to lunch with my mother-in-law yesterday and also did some shopping at Kohl's.  While there I acquired a sequin embellished, open-front cardigan (pictured below) which inspired this sequined fashion post.

I LOVE sparkles - sequins, glitter, beading.  It doesn't matter so much what it is as how shiny and pretty it is.  I LOVE them!  I spazz out when I see them.  I always tell Mr. Diva that when I am old I will be one of those ladies dressed in rhinestones from head to toe.  I need sparkles to live!

That is one of the reasons I love the holiday season.  There are immense opportunities to wear sparkles (and lots of stores offering sparkly fashions).  In honor of my new sparkly sweater, I wanted to point out some other sequined things I own or want to own (and some others just thrown in for good measure):

Simply Vera Vera Wang Sequin Knit Scarf,

Simply Vera Vera Wang Queenie Sequin Tote,

Allover Sequin Sheath Dress,
Allover Sequin Cami,

Sequin skirt,

Sequin ballet flat from Lane Bryant (no longer on website)

Sequin ballet flat,

Cropped sequin cardigan (I especially love the purple),

Multi Stripe Sequin tank,

Cascade Sequin tank,

"Serena" Sequin Kimono Sleeve Dress,

Crumpet Sequined cashmere scarf,

Valentino Sequined Shopping Couture Tote,

Poppy Fashion Sequin XL Spotlight Shoulder Bag,

Black Sequin Tuxedo Jacket,

Sequin and Fringe Tunic,

And really, that is just to name a few.  So if you love sparkles like me, there is a variety of items to keep your wishlist filled this season!

Shopping day with mom

This week Mr. Diva has been out of town for work.  I've mainly been doing cleaning and watching movies.  All my plans with friends fell through, so I was relieved when my mom was able to come pick me up and hang out with me all day.

We had lunch at a local rib place (and even had fried okra!  I miss it so much.)  Then we headed over to Bath and Body Works, DressBarn, Avenue, Ross, and Costco before heading to Michaels and Wal-Mart.  I had a lits of things I needed to pick up, but I ended up with more than that.  There were some excellent sales going on.

At Bath and Body, I really wanted a fragrance oil that was more fall/winter.  I only have a Pecan Pie one from a few years ago.  The rest I have are citrusy, summery smells.  I also wanted to pick up some more Pocket Anti-bacterial gels in the new holiday scents.  Here's (part of) my B&BW haul:

I went with Creamy Pumpkin because it seemed like a great mix of several other scents I wanted.  It was a happy medium.  I also loved Homemade Cookies, Cinnamon Stick, Creamy Nutmeg, and Spiced Cider.

Secret Wonderland is a new scent.  I really loved it.  It is a really nice fruity, girly scent.  The shimmer mist is SO sparkly!

I also bought some other pocket anti-bacterial gels in their Cupcake line.  Those are no longer on the website.  I also bought a couple glittery fabric flowers that they have as gift wrapping accessories.  I am gonna make them into pins.
I could have bought ALL the lipglosses too!  They were all so yummy smelling!  and the new Tasty Lip Jewels are so sparkly!

When we went to Avenue, my mom found a pair of boots she loved.  I was looking at some of the sale shirts.  They had a lot of solid color basics that I wanted to add to my wardrobe.  I chose a teal thermal tunic that was $20.  I didn't think the sale price was going to be as outstanding as it was.  The top was on sale for $8!!  So I got purple, red, and dark magenta ones too.  I think they will be great for winter.

It was a really fun day.  If you are able to take advantage of some of the great deals going on this week, I highly recommend it!!

As you may or may not know, I LOVE me some boybands.  The Top 3 for me are NKOTB, Westlife, and BSB - in that order.

When I was a wee New Kids fan, I never got to attend any concerts.  I was 9 and 10-years-old at the height of their fame, so my mom felt I was too young to go to a concert and could care less about accompanying me to a show.  When NKOTB broke up in 1994, I was devastated.  And eventually I accepted my fate as one of the many fans who never got to see them live.

Flash forward to 2008:
The New Kids were freshly reunited and I was ECSTATIC!  I was OVER THE MOON.  When they announced tour dates, I was devastated though.  The days that they were going to be in my neck of the woods were dates I was going to be in Hawaii on my honeymoon.  We'd already booked our plane tickets and everything.  I was so upset and I cried and cried.  Mr. Diva (we weren't even married yet) was the sweetest and he knew how much it meant to me to see NKOTB in the flesh.  So he immediately pushed back our honeymoon by a week so I could go to the concerts.
Tickets went on sale the week of our wedding, so I was busily trying to juggle all that.  It was a stressful time.  Thankfully, I was able to get tickets and Mr. Diva even got me a Meet and Greet pass as a wedding gift.  (Later, my Meet and Greet show was canceled due to a live television performance on the same day....but I got to Meet them the following year)  I was able to go to 4 New Kids concerts during the reunion shows.  And I won tickets to a special screening of the New Kids "Coming Home" DVD in Seattle as well.

I have also been to many BSB shows and consider myself a fan of theirs too...but NKOTB will always be the greatest in my eyes.

Well, Today a new Summer 2011 tour was announced.  Can you guess what it is?
Yes indeed!  All NINE dudes will be on Ryan Seacrest's morning radio show on Monday, November 8th to discuss this news.  I can only hope things won't be as stressful...*fingers crossed*

Also, don't miss BSB (with Kevin) on Oprah this Thursday (11/4), NKOTB performing with BSB on the American Music Awards on November 21st, and Westlife's album preview on Amazon.

Diva In The Kitchen: Strawberry and Rosemary Scones/Cookies

UPDATE 6/3/2013: I have made these quite a few times since posting this in 2010.  I just wanted to add that instead of 1 tablespoon of rosemary per batch, I add 3 tablespoons of rosemary.  They are so delicious!!!

Rosemary and Strawberry each on their own are great flavors.  But I was a little bit skeptical about how they would taste together in a scone.  I had yet to make scones, so I figured this was a great start.

While these taste AWESOME (the rosemary and strawberry compliment each other so well and the lemon glaze adds a bright zing of sweetness), these are not scones.  They are cookies.  Even when I tried to make them bigger like a scone, they flatten out too much to be a real scone.

I highly recommend you give them a try, especially if the flavors appeal to you.  They are really good,.  I think I have already made them three times this month.  :-D

Juicing the lemons
Chopped rosemary

The first time I made these, I followed the recipe and rolled out the dough and used a cookie cutter to make shapes.  But they were so flat and cookie-like when I wanted scones.  So the next time I made them, I rolled the dough into balls, placed them on the sheet, and used my thumb to make a depression in them.  This made the cookies slightly larger and nice and fluffy.  And it saves time and clean-up.

14 scones

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup strawberry jam

  • 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice, from 1 large lemon
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons water
  • Special equipment: a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter

For the scones: Place an oven rack in the middle of the oven. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with a silpat or parchment paper. Set aside.
In the bowl of a food processorpulse together the flour, sugar, baking powder, rosemary, salt, and butter until the mixture resembles a coarse meal. Transfer the mixture to a medium bowl. Gradually stir in the cream until the mixture forms a dough. On a lightly floured work surface, roll out the dough into a 1/2-inch thick, 10-inch circle. Using a 3-inch heart-shaped cookie cutter, cut out heart-shaped pieces of dough and put on the prepared baking sheet. Gently knead together any leftover pieces of dough and roll out to 1/2-inch thick. Cut the dough into more heart shapes and add to the baking sheet. Using an index finger or a small, round measuring spoon, gently make an indentation in the center of each pastry heart. Spoon a heaped 1/2 teaspoon of jam into each indentation. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown. Transfer the cooked scones onto a wire rack and cool for 30 minutes.
For the glaze: In a medium bowl, mix together the lemon juice and powdered sugar until smooth. Gradually add the water until the mixture is thin enough to spread. Using a spoon, drizzle the glaze over the scones. Let the glaze set for about 30 minutes. Serve or store in an airtight plastic container for 2 days.
Cook's Note: The dough can also be made by hand by stirring together the flour, sugar, baking powder, rosemary, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Add the butter. Using your fingertips or a pastry blender, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles a coarse meal. Gradually stir in the cream until the mixture forms a dough
