What I Wore: Stylish in Seattle

DivineMrsDiva.com - Kiyonna Promenade Top in Calypso Coral

During our recent trip to Seattle, I brought along this lovely top that Kiyonna sent me.  It is perfect for traveling and wearing all day long.  Through a long day of walking around and sight-seeing, to a lovely dinner and drinks late in the evening, this top kept me feeling pretty darn vibrant and awesome!

This day was the most overcast and chilly day of our adventure.  It was our first vacation in six years, so I had this idea of sun in my head that isn't always realistic for Seattle.  For warmth, I added a bright turquoise scarf over the turquoise bubble necklace.  It was easy enough to take on and off without fussing with a jacket or cardigan.

Like I said earlier, this top is fantastic.  The color is such a beautiful and vibrant coral!  The stretchy rayon/spandex drapes beautifully and makes for maximum comfort.  I also love that the sleeves are a great medium between short and three-quarter.  I like that extra coverage.  While being a V-neck style like many Kiyonna tops, this one doesn't seem too low cut and provides some extra coverage.  Because it drapes a little more for my non-ample bosom, I wore a nude cami underneath.  However, I really didn't need to because the top stayed in place.

After our day of sight-seeing, we stopped at our hotel to freshen up before dinner.  I was able to lose the scarf and trade the capris and sandals for my favorite skinny jeans and trusty Adrina Crocs.

This month's theme is: Multifunctional.

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Multifunctional - DivineMrsDiva.com

For our multifunctional theme, I pulled out my SWAK Pretty Flutter Top.  It is a super comfortable and roomy knit top perfect for summer.  I now own this top in a soft lavender color too.  I would normally wear a 3X in SWAK pieces, but I bought this top (and the Pretty Cami) in a 2X because of all the extra fabric.

My first look comes courtesy of our recent road trip to Seattle.  I needed something comfy and breathable for the car ride, as well as something to wear to the Chihuly Garden and Glass museum and dinner once we arrived in town.  The Pretty Flutter Top is a bit of a high-low hemline.  Going with the smaller size made it just a tad short in the front (to me), so I added a black lace-trimmed cami underneath.  The flats dressed up the look a little, but also provided color (plus they are really comfortable for walking).  My turquoise sparkly scarf added color, while my rhinestone teddy bear head necklace added some extra pizazz and whimsy. (I always say, when choosing an accessory, "When it doubt, wear the rhinestone teddy head!")

The second look is more date night or a fun outing with the girls! I belted the top to accentuate my waist under the jacket.  I didn't like the look of the gold buckle showing, so I just turned the buckle around to the back.  Black shoes would be the typical go-to for this look, but I felt the pink wedges kept it ideal for summer and a bit more casual.

The shoes are Crocs (I only like cute Crocs.) so they are pretty comfortable.  I did find that the strap was a bit long.  When buckled, the shoe was still loose on my heel.  I really didn't want to return them, so I punched a couple extra buckle holes in the strap.  This helped to make them tighter and wearable.

I imagine wearing this look to the Farmer's Market or a low-key brunch.  It has a nice simplicity to it.  I paired my trusty top with a chambray skirt, nude flats, a belt, and a colorful owl necklace.  No fuss or constant fidgeting required!

What I Wore: Striped and Floral Anniversary!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Striped Knit and Floral Challis Dress, Torrid Hooded Cropped Lace Inset Cardigan, Crocs Adrina Flats

Before we headed out to Seattle, we celebrated on the actual day of our anniversary.  We usually try to go back to the hotel/restaurant/winery/golf course where we were married every year to commemorate the day.  I love that it is a place we can actually go and spend time and remember, not only our wedding day, but the night we got engaged and one of our first dates...among many other dates we had there.  It is just a super fun place!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid Striped Knit and Floral Challis Dress, Torrid Hooded Cropped Lace Inset Cardigan, Crocs Adrina Flats

Because we had to attend Bunco that evening, an early dinner was in order.  We had delicious steak, veggies, scallops, and a salted caramel dessert with coffee.  Right before we left, I remembered I needed to do outfit photos.  The vineyard seemed like a great backdrop.

I actually lucked out finding this dress at my local Torrid.  I think it may have been a return (and in my size!), so when I saw it on the rack I snatched it up to try on.  I am normally in a 3 at Torrid now, but this dress is a 4 and fit very well.  The sleeves are a tad short for my liking, but nothing crazy.  I just adore the mix of stripes and floral, secretly coveting the dress online long before I found it in store.

The top portion is a super stretchy knit, while the bottom is rayon.  No stretch, but it flows nicely.  It does have the potential to wrinkle easily, so keep that in mind. I added the red necklace for contrast against the stripes and to pull the darker red from the rose pattern.  The dress is only available in a 2 online, but check your store just in case.

PS - Totally aware my slip is showing.  It was super windy, so Sean couldn't capture it at just the right moment.  I have ordered a new slip which *fingers crossed* is a bit shorter.

It was a little bit chilly that day, so I added my new lace hooded cardigan (which I LOVE) over the dress.  I really love how the stripes can peek through the lace in front and back.  I am wearing the cardigan in a 3 for a roomier fit.  Size down if you are interested in a more fitted look.

I wanted to keep my footwear lighter, so I went with my Adrina Crocs.  I have the same style in pink and turquoise.  They are so comfortable and really cute.  I always get compliments on them when I am out and about.  I did order a size down in these black ones and they are a tad too snug.  Stick with your usual size and you should be fine.

What I Didn't Wear: BB Dakota and Evans

When I signed back up for Gwynnie Bee after radiation, I was doing the 3-items-at-a-time plan.  One of my May shipments had two BB Dakota items and one Evans top - brands I haven't tried yet.  None of them worked perfectly for me, so my disappointment becomes your education! lol  Here's what I didn't wear:

BB Dakota is a totally new brand to me.  I was excited to give it a try, as most of the items look really cute on the GB site.  While it was stretchy and comfortable, it is a bodycon dress which would require me to wear shapewear to feel more confident in it.  At first it seemed really cute (See my view in the mirror photo above), but there were a few things I didn't like.

1) It was shorter than I am typically comfortable with.  2) The bust is way too big for what I have to offer, which resulted in an ill fit. Read: bigger armholes exposing my bra because my boobage didn't fill out the dress.  3) The way the back is cut requires that you wear a strapless bra, which I am not fond of.  PS - I received this in a size 24. I am 5'9" and typically wear a 24.

If you are a curvy, busty petite girl, this will probably be awesome on you! (Or just have boobs that are bigger than a B cup and be careful when you bend down.)
This dress can be found online at Bloomingdale's, Amazon, and at Gwynnie Bee.

BB Dakota Dory Dress

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Didn't Wear: BB Dakota Dory Dress

This dress had great potential.  The pattern is really cute and it would be adorable with leggings and some fun flats.  There are lots of ways you could style it...if it fit you.  This dress was also particularly short, like when I bent over you could see my underwear.  And you do not want some wind to blow it up either!  The skirted part was lined but the bust area was not.  The chiffon-like polyester is see through in the top portion of the dress.  I wore a thinner black tank underneath it for the pictures.

Which brings me to my next point, it was kind of tight fitting.  Even without a tank underneath, it was a bit snug.  The fabric has no stretch, so it is what it is.  Initially I was pleased with the bust, until I noticed all the extra fabric.  It is even bigger on the sides than the last dress.  The back fit okay I guess, but the hip portion was just a little too snug for the skirted part to flow like it should.  I admit it is hard to tell the fit of the hips from these photos, but you will have to trust me.
PS - I received this in a size 24. I am 5'9" and typically wear a 24.

This dress can be found online at Amazon and Gwynnie Bee.

Evans Mirror Print Shell Top

DivineMrsDiva.com - What I Didn't Wear: Evans Mirror Print Shell Top

This is the first Evans piece I am actually trying on.  When I see things from Evans online, I usually think they are really cute.  I loved the colors in this top and was hoping it would fit like more of a flowy tunic.  While the top portion fit well, the hip area was really tight.  If you have big hips like me I would recommend ordering a size up if you can.  I think this would be really cute tucked into a chambray skirt, but I just did not have the energy to try it out.  I was kind of fed up with the ill fits at this point of my day.

Also, pardon my sloppy house pants.  I didn't feel like changing them.  PS - I received this in a size 24. I am 5'9" and typically wear a 24.

What I Wore: As "Bad Ass" As I Get

DivineMrsDiva.com - ASOS Curve Tribal Print Panel Dress and MYNT 1792 Edinburgh Vest via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Studded Stretch Belt, Torrid Booties

I've never been an edgy kind of girl.  I am way more comfortable in softer, feminine looks than hard, fierce kind of ensembles.  When I put this outfit together though, I felt pretty bad ass.

DivineMrsDiva.com - ASOS Curve Tribal Print Panel Dress and MYNT 1792 Edinburgh Vest via Gwynnie Bee, Lane Bryant Studded Stretch Belt, Torrid Booties

This bodycon dress is made in a stretchy knit that is comfortable and soft.  I love the colors in the tribal print pattern.  I received it in a US 22 and thought it fit rather well.  However, I am not really comfortable with a dress that clings to my larger tummy roll, so it was almost a "What I Didn't Wear" post.

In the same shipment from Gwynnie Bee was this vest, also something totally different for me that I wouldn't normally wear.  I haven't tried many things from MYNT 1792 yet, so I was super happy to give it a go.  It was great camouflage for my tummy without having to stuff myself into shapewear.  The vest came in a 3X and wasn't going to zip over my hips.  After adding the belt and cinching the vest in, I was pretty happy with the final look.  The booties added a little more sass and a more casually sexy vibe to the ensemble, which made me feel particularly saucy!  In retrospect, I just needed a bold lip color to complete the look.

What I Wore: Birthday Princess

DivineMrsDiva.com - eShakti Trinity Crinoline, Lane Bryant Emebellished Striped Top, Nine West Sea Horse Sandals

Finally, I have a chance to start catching you up-to-date on all the goings on!  May is always a super busy month with lots of birthday parties and celebrations.  I feel so frazzled lately trying to keep everything organized.  This is a picture heavy post of my birthday party fun, but I didn't really want to leave anything out.  First up - my outfit!!  I was told that I looked like a beautiful princess TWICE that day - once by a sweet little girl who was genuinely in awe of me and once by a sweet lady at Hallmark.  That made me feel super awesome!

The morning of my party, Sean and I actually ventured to Portland to attend Crafty Wonderland.  It is basically like Etsy, but in person.  There are so many crafty, fun, and quirky items to behold.  I still wanted to get plenty of wear from my tulle skirt, so I accessorized with a more "daytime tiara" instead of the bigger one you will see below. lol  This outfit came together a couple months ago, after I purchased the striped top from Lane Bryant the day before I started radiation.  It has some pretty rhinestone flowers on the shoulder, which helped spark the entire ensemble.

DivineMrsDiva.com - eShakti Trinity Crinoline, Lane Bryant Emebellished Striped Top, Nine West Sea Horse Sandals

I LOVE tulle skirts and wanted one that was a bit more "poofy" for my birthday.  This pinky-violet shade caught my eye immediately!  It is lined, has pockets, and was just waiting to be mine. I bought my normal size in this based on a couple of other skirt purchases and it fit slightly snug, but not uncomfortably so.  There is a smocked elastic panel in the back that allows for a little more room.  I find that eShakti's actual size chart is a bit off base as far as measurements go.

The first skirt I purchased based on the size chart was a similar style, but a black poplin material.  According to the size chart, I needed to buy a size 32 skirt.  At the time, I was wearing a 26, but I was worried about the fit so I bought the 30.  I could have sized down to a 24 in that one.  This tulle skirt has a smaller elastic panel than the black skirt does, so I ordered a 24 instead of a 22 and, like I said, it fits well.

The shoes took a LOT of looking to find.  I can't say that they are super comfortable (NO support), but they are very pretty and fit my wide, size 11 feet the way I needed them too.

We rushed home and got everything set up for my party that evening.  I made sure to provide as many gluten-free options as I could so my GF homie and I didn't have to worry too much about what we wanted to eat versus what we could eat.  I made gluten-free brownies for my birthday cake and supplied a regular cake option as well.  There was plenty of typical party food, like crackers and cheese, chips and salsa, potato chips and dip.  Sean and I tried to supplement the party food with a gluten-free pasta veggie salad and homemade meatballs in BBQ sauce.  Yum yum!!

Aside from tassels and balloons, I kept the decor pretty simple.  I filmed a video tutorial for the tassels (because I made a TON of them) that will be featured in a future post.  A couple of nights prior to the party, I decided that adding some young Hailey photos would be fun.

I also demanded requested that all my wonderful guests take a photo with me. I missed a couple of people that came for the after party though.

It was such a fun day!  I was thrilled that so many people were able to hang out and celebrate.  It wasn't just a simple birthday celebration to me.  It was me celebrating my life, being alive after all this cancer crap.
