It's The Little Things....

I had a great morning shopping and lunching with my mother-in-law today.  We went to World Market, Kohl's, and Panera Bread, where Mr. Diva was able to meet up with us.  I wanted to share some of my purchases and the happy news that some of the clothes at Kohl's actually FIT ME!  I was ecstatic!  It really is the little things that can brighten one's day.  :-)  I've always had trouble with the sizing at Kohl's.  I have at least one other top from Kohls - my sequined cardigan.  I didn't think any of the tops I liked were going to fit, but I was wrong.
ELLE Floral Babydoll Tank

This is the top I ended up purchasing.  It fit great and was so cute!  I also love the purple/grey/yellow color combo.

ELLE Floral Empire Top
I also tried on another top and dress.  They both fit well, but the body of the top was a little bit more form fitting than I was comfortable with.  The top of the shirt fit me well in the chest.  I LOVE the criss-cross, v-neck style!  The sleeves were fluttery sleeves which were comfortable and flattering.  I also loved the shirred neck detail.  The top I tried on was a light lavender color, but they only have a patterned one online for me to show you.
Sonoma life + style Floral Empire Dress
The dress was cute and comfy, but I wasn't crazy about the pattern.  It didn't look bad, it just isn't me.  They didn't have a solid color option, so I didn't get it.

And I just wanted to add that I was rockin' my cute turquoise Nynree sandals from Avenue today.  They are so cute and comfy!

I wish all of you a happy day!  If you find some awesome deals, let me know!!

What I Wore: Some Casual Looks From May

I am very much behind in my outfit posts.  I am getting caught up on photo editing and, as I do, I will share some of the outfits from the last month.  I don't usually get dressed and go anywhere during the week since I work at home.  My daily clothing is comfy ensembles a step above pajamas. LOL   And typically when I do get put together to go run errands and such, I don't get dressy.  I still look forward to sharing with you though. These two outfits are from the first week of May:

I went to get my hair done and then we had a birthday party to go to and a handful of other errands, hence the unstylish but very practical shoes.

The picture on the left was pre-hair appointment.  I clipped the small shoulder pads out of the blazer.  The material is thin, so it isn't too warm, which I love. Pardon the parking lot background.

It got a little bit chilly later in the day, so I added a scarf.

Jeans - Avenue
Sequin Tank - Lane Bryant
Blazer - Fashion Bug (Mine is the Pebble Jacket, which was a slightly cheaper and non-sateen version of the Sateen Blazer that is still online)
Bracelet - Avenue
Scarf - Catherine's

Outfit #2 was worn on a trip to the Pet and Companion Fair.  I needed an outfit that was okay getting dog hair all over it.

Had to sport my chihuahua pins for the day :-)  And tennis shoes were a must, of course.

Jeans - Avenue
Supima Tee - Lane Bryant
Jacket - Catherine's
Necklace - Lane Bryant

My furson, Rusty and I
He was such a good boy.  And he got lots of compliments.

All the excitement pooped him out though!

Miss P was thrilled to get a Lil Devil shirt from our adventure.

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 14

Day 14 - Music That No One Would Expect You To Love

I'm not really sure the answer to this.  I like lots of types of music.  Because I am an avid Boyband fan though, a lot of people think that's all I listen to or all I like.  That is a big misconception.

Have a Gay Ol' Time!

This weekend is Pride Weekend here in Portland, Oregon.  We started celebrating early because a wonderful gay couple we are friends with got married on Thursday!  We've had a blast celebrating with them.  The wedding was beautiful and on a lovely weather day - great food, great people, fun music, tasty wine.  It was fantastic!  (I'll post pictures soon.)

Tomorrow Mr. Diva and I are going to check out the parade downtown with some of our fabulous friends.  I made a cute feather headband out of a rainbow-colored boa for the festivities.  I hope rain is minimal.  WHY did it have to rain this weekend??  I mean, REALLY.

I am looking forward to celebrating all my wonderful gay friends tomorrow.  I wish them all happiness, love, kindness, and equality!!!  *MUAH*

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 13

Day 13 - Music That Is A Guilty Pleasure

Oh man....well, as much shit as I got/get for liking NKOTB, I really don't feel too guilty about liking the music I like.  I do own the OTown CD though.  I guess that's something I like to keep on the down low. (The secret's out now though LOL)

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 12

Day 12 - Music From A Band You Hate

She's not a band, but I can't stand Kesha.  She disgusts me.

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 11

Day 11 - Music From Your Favorite Band

Speaks for itself.  I've been an NKOTB fan for 23 years now.  "One Song" is from The Block album.

Diva In The Kitchen: Bangin Good Shrimp

A couple weeks ago, Kimberly over at Fab Finds Under $50 tweeted about a yummy shrimp meal she made for dinner.  It combines Thai Sweet Chili Sauce, Sriracha, and light mayo to create a tasty sauce/dressing.  I LOVE Thai flavors and this is a Weight Watcher friendly meal.  One serving is 5 points and about 215 calories.

I served the dressed shrimp over a bed of mixed herb greens and diced tomatoes.  We didn't have a lot of lettuce left, so I also made some jasmine rice and stir fry broccoli and snap peas to go with it.  It was a terrific and tasy meal!  Even Mr.Diva commented about how pretty it was.  The combo of colors on the shrimp was quite lovely.

Find the shrimp recipe over at Skinny Taste:   Bangin Good Shrimp

Stir Fry Broccoli and Snap Peas

I just made this up as I cooked and it was a last minute choice to add this side, so I apologize for the lack of measurements.  I don't really cook with measurements unless I'm baking.
I bought the big bag of chopped cabbage, broccoli, and peas in the salad section.  Heat veggie oil in a pan and add veggies once oil is very hot.  Stir often.  Once the veggies start to soften just a bit, add just a bit of soy sauce and sesame oil to taste. (You could also add rice wine vinegar, chili paste, or whatever you like)
Once the veggies were soft, but with a slight bit of crunch to them, I put them in a bowl, sprinkled them with Chinese Five Spice, and tossed them well.

When I served it up, I used some of the extra shrimp sauce to drizzle over them.

Jasmine Rice
With the rice, just make it according to the package instructions.  I use chicken or veggie broth instead of water.  I also added a bit of sesame oil, soy sauce, curry powder, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes.  When I was ready to serve dinner, I mixed in chopped scallions to the fluffed up rice and drizzled the extra shrimp sauce over it as well.

Enjoy!

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 10

Day 10 - Music That Makes You Fall Asleep

I listen to the Easy Listening Music Channel when I go to sleep.  I have to have music on and I also need a light on, so the television provides both.  There is a big mix of artists and bands on the channel - from classical music to instrumental covers of pop songs.

This isn't something from the channel, but this kind of music puts me to sleep.

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 9

Day 9 - Music That You Can Dance Too

We saw Chromeo on Conan one night and, while they seemed like an odd bunch, we loved the 80s sound of the music.  Mr. Diva downloaded their CD a few days later.  It is quite fun to listen to.  :-)

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 8

Day 8 - Music That You Know All The Words To

I know the words to pretty much every song I hear, so this one is tough.  I think I will go with "Thriller" by Michael Jackson.  Mr. Diva was impressed I knew all the spoken words at the end. lol

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 7

Day 7 - Music That Reminds You Of A Certain Event

I've already talked about songs that remind me of my parents' divorce, my father's death, my wedding, my honeymoon...so this took some thinking.

I decided to go with  "The Living Years" by Mike and the Mechanics.  It reminds me of when my nephew Hunter was born because my brother and I had the same dream about my dad being there.  Once it gets to the part of the song about the dad passing away, I just lose it.

Diva In The Kitchen: Fruity Lemonade Slush

I haven't been trying a lot of new recipes lately (hence the not posting any).  I do have a plethora of recipes to post about from my previous cooking adventures and will slowly get to those.  I obviously haven't been staying as up-to-date on the blog as I would love to be.  I am working to change that, my dahlings.

Last weekend was a fabulously warm one here,  so I broke out my recently acquired Lemonade slush recipe.  When we went grocery shopping, I bought a lot of lemons and limes in preparation for some tasty treats.  I juiced seventeen lemons and fourteen limes and, boy, did my hand hurt! lol  It came in handy though.  You won't have to do such laborious activities for this slush though.  And it is incredibly tasty!

*Picture and Recipe from The Frugal Girls

1/2 cup sugar**
1/2 cup lemon juice**
1/2 cup water**
2 cups ice cubes, divided
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1/2 cup frozen sliced peaches

Place sugar, lemon juice, water, and 1 cup of ice cubes in blender.  Cover and blend on high until smooth.  Add remaining ice cubes and fruit.  Cover and blend using pulsing action until smooth.  Serve immediately.  Store leftovers in the freezer.  Makes 4 servings.

** In place of sugar. lemon juice, and water - you can use Country Time Lemonade Mix.  Use 1 cup of water plus enough mix for 1 quart of lemonade.

Keep cool this summer!!!

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 6

Day 6 - Music That Reminds You Of Somewhere

Today's song that reminds me of somewhere is "I'm Yours" by Jason Mraz, just the Hawaiian-like version of it.  It came on the radio a lot while my husband and I were in Maui for our honeymoon in 2008.  It always reminds me of driving around Maui, feeling the breeze, spending relaxing days with my sweetums.  Can't get better than that!

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 5

Day 5 - Music That Reminds You of Someone

This song reminds me of a moment back in, hmmmmm....middle school or early high school.  It was an embarrassing moment for my friend, so I won't tell you WHO it reminds me of exactly.  We were sitting with our other mutual friend in the mutual friend's dad's car in an Auto Zone parking lot.  Our friend's dad had picked us up from school and ran into the store to get some things.  We sat outside chatting.

My friend sees someone coming through the parking lot and says, "Oooh, he's kinda hot."  As this guy got closer to our car, we realized it was a girl.  We all cracked up and when I hear this song, it still reminds me of that.

"You and me
We come from different worlds
You like to laugh at me
When I look at other girls..."

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 4

Day 4 - Music That Makes You Sad

I have a lot to choose from with this one as well. When my dad died, I listened to Sarah McLachlan's Surfacing album on repeat.  Thirteen years later, I still can't listen to that album without bawling my eyes out.  And it doesn't help that "Angel" is used for those commercials about poor defenseless animals who need help.  Anytime that commercial comes on television, I have to change the channel.  Aside from the song, those sweet, precious animal faces needing love and kindness make me weep uncontrollably.  I'm crying just thinking about it.

So take your pick of the songs from Surfacing.  I'll go with "Do What You Have To Do".

I would also like to add "Family Portrait" by Pink....

...and "Because of You" by Kelly Clarkson.

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 3

Day 3 - Music That Makes You Happy

I could choose SO MANY songs for this.  NKOTB is a given, of course.  I would also include 50s, 80s, Rat Pack, Motown, and Disney tunes in this catagory.

I'm going to go with Stevie Wonder's "For Once In My Life".  My husband and I had our first dance to Harry Connick Jr's version of this song.  It really conveys how I feel about my sweet Mr. Diva.

30 Day Music Challenge - Day 2

Day 2 - Your Least Favorite Music.

I despise country music.  It causes me to feel physically ill.  There are only a handful of country artists I am okay with.  So for an example of my least favorite music, I will go with....

The 30 Day Music Challenge - Day 1

Hello all!!  I hope everyone is having a great June so far.  Additionally, I hope that all of you have nice weather to enjoy this weekend.  Here in Washington State, it is supposed to be up to 80 degrees this weekend, but today it is gloomy and raining and most of next week is the same.  I want a breezy, 67 degrees so I can go to the beach and wear my sandals and capris.  *le sigh*

A couple of my friends are doing this 30 Day Music Challenge on Facebook.  I thought it would be a great thing to do here on the blog.  I love music and I love to see what people are listening to.  If you participate on your blog, let me know so I can check out your answers to this challenge.

Day 1 is Your Favorite Music.

This one is pretty easy.  I love pop music.  I love boybands and 80s tunes and good beats.  My obvious choice would be a great boyband tune, but I'm gonna choose......
