What I Wore: Seeing Spots! - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

As you may know, I subscribe to Gwynnie Bee, the place to rent super cute plus size clothing.  I continue to love the opportunity to try different brands I may not otherwise try. Sometimes I opt for different sizes too.  This polka dot number was too cute, so even though it only went to a 3X and seemed like it might be too small for me, I tried it out. - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

Truthfully, when I opened the box and took the dress out, I immediately wrote it off as too small and I folded it and put it back in the box.  I wasn't even going to try it on.  (It did look really small though. lol)  A couple hours later, I went back and checked to make sure it was the right size and decided to at least attempt to try it on....for research purposes at least. - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

Needless to say, it fit and I thought it looked adorable.  The dress is more of a skater style, so it is shorter.  I am 5'9" and this came right below my butt.  It is made of a stretchy polyester/spandex so, even in the more fitted areas, it is quite comfortable. - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

Silver Glitter Flats (in wide width!) - Payless - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

It is the first time I have worn these flats too.  Payless happened to have them in wide width and they fit very well.  You know I love my sparkles!  Also, I was pretty proud of my lipstick.  It was a happy accident that it turned out to be a complimentary color to my shrug.  I layered Urban Decay's Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy over Stila's After Glow Lip Color in Vivid Violet. - Lucie Lu/Gwynnie Bee Glynis Dress, Avenue Shrug and Necklace, Lane Bryant belt, Fashion Bug leggings, Payless Glitter Flats

Have you ever tried an item you were sure would not be right for you, only to find it worked out great??

Q & A Monday: This or That?

Sorry for the lack of posts yet again last week.  It's the same old, same old excuse from me lately - getting the house in order.  We hosted Bunco on Saturday, so we were busy from sunrise to long past sunset every day working on all the last minute projects.  The To Do List is nowhere near complete, but I think the house was in good enough shape for my Bunco friends to see it.  Unpacked boxes are down to a couple boxes of pillows and blankets and about seven boxes of framed photos and artwork, plus whatever boxes I have left up in the craft room.  It is getting there.

Our housewarming party is another couple of weeks away, so we will be able to mix in house chores with fun things and relaxation.  Truthfully, we are burnt out on house stuff right now.  I look forward to some days of no housework where I can catch up on blogs, work on some craft projects, and read from the pile of books waiting for me.

It is time again for Friend Makin' Monday.  If you have a blog, I would like to invite you to answer the questions as well.  Leave me a comment here, so I know you are playing.  Then you can also leave a comment over at All The Weigh, so other folks can check out your answers as well.  It is a fun way to connect to other bloggers.

This or That?

1.  Meat and potatoes or pasta?
It would depend on my mood.  I try not to eat too much meat, so I would probably opt for pasta with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, and shrimp.

2.  Do you prefer Apple or Android?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, which I like just fine.  It does all the things I need my phone to do, except have a physical keyboard.  At home, I use my iPad mini and love it also.  I'm not super picky about my phone since I work at home.  I do wish we got more coverage in our area though.

3.  Do you kiss and tell, or do you keep it private?
I keep it private.  If I was just casually dating people, I'd probably share tidbits with my close friends.  But to me, it is something entirely different when you have a husband.  I don't really feel comfortable sharing information willy nilly.

4. If you had to choose one, would you choose Facebook or Twitter?

I tend to be on Facebook more for personal use and Twitter for more blog stuffs.  If I had to just choose one, I'd probably have to go with Facebook.

5.  Christmas or Valentine’s Day?

Christmas because it is also my husband's birthday.  So I like to go all out and wrap extra presents for him in birthday wrap and put up banners and eat cake. lol  Plus, I like giving presents to people and getting presents too.  I enjoy the family gatherings and tasty food and apple cider.

6.  If you joined a band, would you prefer to do vocals or play an instrument?

I'd be on vocals or I'd play drums. I always wanted to learn how to drum.

7.  Hot weather or cold weather?

Cold weather.  I would MUCH rather be too cold than too hot.  The heat makes me supremely cranky.  Fall is my favorite time of year because I enjoy the cooler breezes.  Unfortunately, in the Pacific Northwest it is mainly just rain, which I am not fond of all the damn time....but whatever.

8.  Calorie counting or tracking points?
Neither.  I don't have time to obsess about things that make me feel like shit about myself.  That is why the dieting industry makes so much money.  They are constantly telling you that you are never good enough, but only 5% of people on an actual diet keep the weight off.  Therefore, I focus on eating as healthy as I can, making healthy choices, and incorporating activity into my life.  Some days I suck at it and some days I don't.

9.  Yoga or kickboxing?
People around me tend to like yoga, but I don't really get it yet.  I enjoy Pilates and more dance-oriented workouts.

10.  East Coast or West Coast?

I'm an east coast girl living on the west coast.  I definitely miss the east.  Sometimes the laid back vibe on the west coast is annoying.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions!  Link up with Kenlie, leave me a comment, and share!  Have a Happy Monday!!

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Accessories

It is time again for Sartorial Medley, a monthly themed fashion post hosted by myself and Aislynn of Aislynn's World.  (Did you miss the previous posts? Check them out!) We welcome participation from anyone, regardless of your dress size.  From now until the 25th end of the month, email me your photo and link to your blog post  - diva (at) divinemrsdiva (dot) com.

Now on to this month's theme: Accessories. - Sartorial Medley: Accessories

This month, we decided to focus more on what you add to an outfit to give it some pizzazz.  With more of a focus on the upcoming fall weather (although it was in the 90s here last week. BLEH!), I chose to show you how I dress for chillier weather.  Here is the basic outfit to start: - Sartorial Medley: Accessories

I bought this dress from Torrid after seeing it on Rebecca of The Plus Side of Me in one of her Full-Figured Fashion Week posts.  When it arrived in the mail, I was so happy I was able to get my hands on it.  The color is a gorgeous blue-purple hue with an all-over rose pattern.  It is made of a heavier material that can easily transition to fall.  At 5'9", I feel like it may be a little too short and a bit out of my comfort zone to ever wear it sans leggings, but I am totally okay with that.  The shorter sleeves hug my larger upper arms, but the material has a bit of stretch so it isn't uncomfortable. - Sartorial Medley: Accessories

Just by adding a complimentary scarf, it really changes the look of the outfit.  I love the pop of color near my face and feel like the addition of the scarf balances out my figure and the outfit.  It seemed a little bottom-heavy with all the black and the tall boots and nothing going on up top. - Sartorial Medley: Accessories

Next, I dug out my old jean jacket for an added layer against the elements.  (It was actually raining this day, which is pretty much how the weather will act until next June. lol)  The end result is a fun, feminine look that I will definitely be rocking a lot this fall. - Sartorial Medley: Accessories - Sartorial Medley: Accessories

Q & A Monday: Relationships and Dating

Hey, y'all!!

It was another busy weekend here.  We had a game night scheduled for Saturday night, but it was canceled because my friend had her baby on Friday!!  So congrats to her and her precious family!

We would have loved to hang out with everyone for game fun, but the cancellation afforded us the  time to organize more and get through some house chores and To Do lists.  I hemmed and hung curtains in my dressing room and got more kitchen and dining room organizing and cleaning done.  We washed dogs, cleaned their ears, clipped their nails.  Sean crawled under the house to run Ethernet cable and finished building the desk in my craft room.

Sunday we finally went grocery shopping and ran other errands to pick up stuff for the house.  It's getting there, y'all.  Slowly but surely, it is getting there. :-)

Relationships and Dating

1.  List five characteristics that you think are important in a significant other.
Intelligent, loyal, patient, funny, and sweet.

2.  If you had to choose between staying single for the next two years (as in, no dating at all,) or receiving $10,000, which would you choose?
So I am choosing between the option of being single and not having $10,000 or having $10,000 and dating people?? (or, in my case, being married?)  I'd take the 10 Gs and my man.  That money could go towards getting the kitchen remodeled or building a deck out back. lol

3.  What is your relationship status?  Are you satisfied with it?
I'm married with two elderly furkids.  I am very, very happy! :-)  Though, if I could change something, I'd want my furkids to be around a lot longer.

4.  Would you date someone who has children?
No.  When I was single, one of my requirements of a potential boyfriend was that he could not have kids.  I don't want the drama or the mess and I don't want kids.  So it would have never worked out.

5.  Would you date someone who’s shorter than you?
No.  This was another thing I wouldn't budge on.

6.  Would you date someone who has different political views?
Not really.  I guess it would depend on what we disagreed on and/or how passionately we disagreed on it.  But generally speaking, I wouldn't want to be with someone who had differing beliefs because I would want my partner to have the same values and ideals as I do so we can live in a harmonious household.  I wouldn't want to be with someone who thought everything I believed in was wrong, nor would I want to be with someone I thought was totally off base.  Thankfully, I found someone who shares my outlook on things.

7.  If you were going on vacation together, would you choose the beach or the mountains?
I'd choose the beach.  I love taking a trip to the beach, but it has been a long time since we have been.  Around here "mountains" usually means camping....and I DON'T camp.

8.  How do you show someone that you’re interested in them?
Back in my dating days, and even as a teenager, I just wouldn't tell someone I was into them. It was too much anguish and heartache for me to be rejected or laughed at. So I would just never tell someone I was interested.  On the rare occasion I did say something, nothing came of it. I learned to keep my mouth shut.

Nowadays, in reference to my hubby, I like to make him tokens of my affection like handmade Valentine gifts or cook him dinner.  It is more about all the little things now.

9.  Do you prefer to date people who are older than you or younger?
I never wanted to be with a younger guy.  Everyone I was interested in was a bit older than me.

10.  Share some details of your dream date.
Something amazingly romantic (like a private jet to Paris lol) or an amusement park or...I don't know.  It'd be fun.  You know what, I'd want my hubby to drive us to the beach and we can lay in the sand and look at the stars. :-)

Now it's your turn!  Answer the questions on your blog or in the comments!  Have a fantastic week!

What I Wore: Floral and Stripes - Lane Bryant floral stripe tank, Lane Bryant Genius Fit denim capris, SWAK Designs Amber Shrug, Avenue sandals

A couple weeks ago, my nephew turned eight-years-old.  His mom planned a laid back pool party for the kiddos.  The weather was lovely, so I finally wore this great tank I got on clearance from Lane Bryant.

It has this sort of mirror-image floral print in the front and stripes in the back.  This tank was definitely different than other things I have in my closet and only about $10 on sale, so I snatched it up.  The fabric is slightly sheer in the front, so I wore a nude-colored, thin cami underneath.  While it is a little shorter in the front than what I normally wear, I think it did a fine job of staying in place. - Lane Bryant floral stripe tank, Lane Bryant Genius Fit denim capris, SWAK Designs Amber Shrug, Avenue sandals

I paired this tank with some of my favorites - denim capris and SWAK shrug.  The purple of the shrug and turquoise of the sandals add some fun color.  This sparkly gold glitter necklace I bought from one of Miss Tess Munster's online sales topped things off nicely.

My nephew had a great party.  He's so adorable.  I can't believe he is eight already.  Sean and I started dating two weeks after he was born, so seeing him grow is also this cool way to measure mine and Sean's relationship and how long we have been together.  It makes me weepy thinking about it.  I get all sentimental.  When we arrived at the party, my nephew came running up to us telling us some stories about what was going on and what he has been up to.  He was talking in complete sentences like a little adult.  It is just so crazy. - Nephew's 8th Birthday - Nephew's 8th Birthday

My adorable niece was having a great time too.  She used to just sulk and give everyone dirty looks and never let us take her picture.  Now she poses when you ask her to and smiles, acts goofy, and talks a lot in her cute little voice. - Lane Bryant floral stripe tank, Lane Bryant Genius Fit denim capris, SWAK Designs Amber Shrug, Avenue sandals

It was a great day all around.  We ended up running errands to The Container Store after the party, so I was in organization heaven!  Hope you all have a great rest of the week!!

Q & A Monday: Getting to Know Me

Hello, fellow Earthlings!

Another Monday is upon us and, unfortunately, this one isn't a holiday.  Sean took a day off on Friday so we could plow through our house-related chores.  This was the only weekend in the foreseeable future that we had nothing planned outside of the house.

We managed to get quite a bit done, though there are still a zillion things on the list.  We organized a bit more of the kitchen and cleaned off some areas of the counter.  Getting the garage a bit more organized and cleaned up also helped a ton.  Now there are large piles for Goodwill and garbage and for possibly selling online.  We put together some furniture pieces, put up the curtain sliders in my dressing room, installed a latch on the front door, installed some sensors for the alarm, and took a tour of the backyard to plan a few yard chores out.

Sean changed the flushing mechanism in his toilet, shortened the cabinet above the fridge, and put the bottom back on the cabinet.  We were able to move the bigger fridge his mom gave us into the house and that has been AWESOME.  It is so nice having a bigger, more modern fridge in the house.  I think it makes the whole kitchen look better too.  We also started on building a crafting desk area for me in the craft room.

I hope all of you had marvelous weekends and are rested and ready for the week!

Getting To Know Each Other

1.  What is your favorite flower?
Peonies are my favorite.  I love how big and fluffy and feminine they look, plus they smell great!

2.  What is a date on the calendar that you’re looking forward to?
Hmmmm, maybe Bunco at the end of the month because it is the first time we will be hosting a gathering at our newly acquired house.  Also, it means that things should mostly be unpacked and in their place by then.  I can't wait!

3.  List at least five characteristics of your ideal mate.
Intelligent, loyal, patient, funny, and sweet. :-)

4.  What is your favorite travel destination?
There are many, many places I have yet to go, but so far my favorites have been Hawaii and Victoria, BC.  I also love Seattle and Savannah.

5.  What is your idea of the perfect date?
I have fun doing pretty much anything with my husband.  We even have fun grocery shopping together.  I'd love to go to an amusement park with him one day.  That would be a fun date.

6.  What is your relationship with your family like?
Broken.  My dad died when I was 17.  My mom told me, two years ago, that she didn't want to be my mom anymore since I have a mother-in-law now.  My stepmom is a stepmonster.  My brother is an arrogant male chauvinist pig who disowned me for being upset with him because he cheated on his wife and kids.

However, my stepdad and his wife are gems, as is my stepsister (whom I call my sister because I really kind of grew up with her and I love her dearly).  I also am able to speak with my little sister regularly, though I wish we were closer.  My grandmas and I stay in touch.  My stepdad's family has always been welcoming to me, so I still have family in them and get to see them regularly as well.  They are a fun bunch.

...and that is probably way more than you wanted to know about my relationship to my family. lol

7.  What time did you wake up this morning?
9:30 or 10.  The alarm was set to earlier so we could get house stuff done, but we didn't go to bed until 3-ish so we needed some extra sleep.

8.  What characteristic do you like most about yourself?  Which do you dislike most?
I'm intelligent, loyal, and creative.  What I dislike most is my anxiety and that I sometimes trust people too readily.

9.  What is your favorite sport to watch?
None.  I am not a fan of watching sports at all.  Even when I was kicking ass at Fantasy Football, I didn't like watching football.

10.  Share a few interesting things that you did over the weekend.

We worked on various chores around the house (see intro paragraph) and we watched more Breaking Bad to try to catch up.  We didn't even start watching that show until a few weeks ago, so we have made good time.  I also downloaded some video games that were on super sale.  I got Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, as well as SimCity 4. OH and we got Diablo 3 for the PS3 because they have couch co-op.  I am excited about that!

I look forward to a productive week checking off my list of projects.  I hope you all have a Happy Monday and great week ahead!

State of the House

I'm still unpacking.  We actually have a deadline since we will be hosting Bunco at the end of the month.  Truly, I am sick of it - more like bored with it.  There are just a million other things I would rather be doing right now.  (Like posting to the blog on a regular basis.) This week, I have really been pushing myself to work on unpacking.  It is pretty much all I have been doing.  So I thought I would update you all on my progress and show some pictures of the reality here at Diva Manor.

There was so much prep work involved in getting the kitchen ready - before I even opened any boxes - that I am just sick of looking at it.  I try to get at least a little bit done every day, but I've had stressed out moments of being unsure exactly where to store canned goods or mixing bowls and I just stop.   One of the cabinets has probably been reorganized about five times because I keep changing my mind about where to put things.  I just see all the stuff sitting on the dining room floor and get overwhelmed.  I've already gotten rid of a lot of stuff though.

So my kitchen still looks like this: - State of the House

Believe it or not, it is a great improvement.  All of Sean's tools and tape and screwdrivers and lightbulbs and wires and metal thingies and whatchamacallits are off the counters.  All the kitchen boxes have been emptied and all the glasses are in the cabinet.  Half of what you can't see is organized. The other half is scattered everywhere, including the dining room. - State of the House

This is a friggin' mess.  I emptied all of the kitchen boxes all over the floor here, grouping everything by purpose.  The shelving was supposed to act as storage since this house doesn't have a pantry, but it just isn't working out the way I envisioned it.  That fact has made me pretty frustrated too.  The way I saw it in my head, it was mostly concealed storage and displayed decorative items.  I just don't see that happening anytime soon.

The front room still houses boxes of sheets, pillows, blankets, artwork, and some stuff that is supposed to somehow fit in the dining room. - State of the House

I haven't even started on the craft room yet.  I basically just went up there to move some keepsakes containers around and get my New Kids area set aside.  I can't even worry about it at the moment. - State of the House

My favorite room in the house right now is my dressing room.  It is the most "done" of the rooms, even though I still have shelves to organize and stuff to put away.  I am going to wait until it is mostly set before I do a big reveal on the blog, but here is a little sneak peek: - State of the House - State of the House

Labor Day weekend afforded us an extra day to work on house things, so Sean bought some sliding shelves for under the kitchen cabinet.  It definitely helps organize a bit of the chaos.  He had to saw off the middle shelf before installing them, but I think he did a terrific job.  Down the road when we remodel the kitchen, we will definitely get more of these things. - State of the House

This has been my State of the House Address.  We are devoting the entire weekend to unpacking and  organizing.  Hopefully we can make a dent in every room of the house before Monday rolls around!
