What I Wore: Seeing Spots!

As you may know, I subscribe to Gwynnie Bee, the place to rent super cute plus size clothing. I continue to love the opportunity to try different brands I may not otherwise try. Sometimes I opt for different sizes too. This polka dot number was too cute, so even though it only went to a 3X and seemed like it might be too small for me, I tried it out.
Truthfully, when I opened the box and took the dress out, I immediately wrote it off as too small and I folded it and put it back in the box. I wasn't even going to try it on. (It did look really small though. lol) A couple hours later, I went back and checked to make sure it was the right size and decided to at least attempt to try it on....for research purposes at least.
Needless to say, it fit and I thought it looked adorable. The dress is more of a skater style, so it is shorter. I am 5'9" and this came right below my butt. It is made of a stretchy polyester/spandex so, even in the more fitted areas, it is quite comfortable.
Polka Dot Glynis Dress - Lucie Lu via Gwynnie Bee
Leggings - Fashion Bug
Shrug and Beaded Necklace - Avenue
Black Skinny Belt - Lane Bryant
Silver Glitter Flats (in wide width!) - Payless
It is the first time I have worn these flats too. Payless happened to have them in wide width and they fit very well. You know I love my sparkles! Also, I was pretty proud of my lipstick. It was a happy accident that it turned out to be a complimentary color to my shrug. I layered Urban Decay's Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy over Stila's After Glow Lip Color in Vivid Violet.
Have you ever tried an item you were sure would not be right for you, only to find it worked out great??

Love the darker lipstick on you (but I'm partial to dark lipstick in general, hehe), and the outfit is totally cute! I think I might give the mint version a shot. Assuming, that is, that my favorite black leggings can be located.
ReplyDeleteThe style I've tried that I wasn't sure about are the A-line/swing dresses like this one. I am not an hourglass, and I thought they would just look dumpy, but honestly, it's nice to not fight your lack of bust and waist and just be comfy, and they show off my legs (which I think are my best body-part feature). I also didn't think I could pull off a true wrap dress (because of the aforementioned lack of waist definition), but it's all in where you tie the waistband...if I tie it a little above my natural waist, it looks way better.
Oh yes, the wrap dress! I was surprised about that one myself. I tried on a few that just didn't work for me and thought I was going to have to count out the whole style. The Kiyonna Winona Hi-Lo wrap is the only one that I have found that really works for me thus far. And tying the belt higher helps a lot.
ReplyDeleteThanks about the lipstick. I get really doubtful of myself when I step out of my makeup box, but I have been obsessed with pigmented, deeper lipsticks lately. I need all the new UD ones. lol
My wedding dress qualified as one of those "nah" before try-on and "it's the one" after try on, so yes I've certainly experienced an item I wasn't sure about working out just right :)
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is really, really cute. I love the pop of color from the shrug, and you know I'm a sucker for polka dots.
I have those shoes in every color that they come in. That equals 7 pairs. They are awesome. I'm a teacher so I'm on my feet all day.
ReplyDeleteThat's fantastic! I need to keep my eye on Payless more. I have loved my recent finds from them. :-)
