Now on to this month's theme: Accessories.
This month, we decided to focus more on what you add to an outfit to give it some pizzazz. With more of a focus on the upcoming fall weather (although it was in the 90s here last week. BLEH!), I chose to show you how I dress for chillier weather. Here is the basic outfit to start:
I bought this dress from Torrid after seeing it on Rebecca of The Plus Side of Me in one of her Full-Figured Fashion Week posts. When it arrived in the mail, I was so happy I was able to get my hands on it. The color is a gorgeous blue-purple hue with an all-over rose pattern. It is made of a heavier material that can easily transition to fall. At 5'9", I feel like it may be a little too short and a bit out of my comfort zone to ever wear it sans leggings, but I am totally okay with that. The shorter sleeves hug my larger upper arms, but the material has a bit of stretch so it isn't uncomfortable.
Just by adding a complimentary scarf, it really changes the look of the outfit. I love the pop of color near my face and feel like the addition of the scarf balances out my figure and the outfit. It seemed a little bottom-heavy with all the black and the tall boots and nothing going on up top.
Next, I dug out my old jean jacket for an added layer against the elements. (It was actually raining this day, which is pretty much how the weather will act until next June. lol) The end result is a fun, feminine look that I will definitely be rocking a lot this fall.

You are so darned cute and you always look like you're having so much fun with your pictures.
ReplyDeleteI love the outfit and I know I've said it before but that scarf is really nice on you. I just realized I don't have a denim jacket, I keep seeing them..might have to see if I can't find one, it would be nice to have an alternative to my leather one when it's not warm enough for wool (which won't be much longer).
Can I trade you for some warm weather? It's been super chilly here, officially fall. Sigh. Just one more month of summer would be nice :)
Ais - you can totally have more summer. If I could send it your way, I would. I want it to get cooler already so I can break out all my fun tights and my new shoes and boots.
ReplyDeleteHailey - LOOOOOOVE that dress on you. I broke down and ordered one. I couldn't help it. And I like the scarf/jacket combo...it gives the dress a totally different look.
Thank you! I am loving it too. I can't wait to wear it again. I could wear it every weekend, right? lol I can't wait to hear how you like it! It is super comfy.
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much! I try, I try. :-) Sean was making me laugh because he keeps getting mad at my camera. Plus, the boots make me sassy.
ReplyDeleteI tried using a different scarf. I had a coral-colored one I wanted to try since I've worn this scarf on the blog already (and for a Sartorial Medley at that). It probably seems more recent to me than it does to others. But anyway, the coral just didn't look as good. I'll play around with it more next time I wear the dress.
No denim jacket? That is a good staple to have. I haven't gotten much use out of mine lately because I have been wearing jeans for most things, running to the store, shlubbing around the house, etc. And I don't like denim on denim! But with dresses, skirts, other pants and what not, I love the look of a denim jacket. This one has lasted me a long time. It *may* be 10 years old.
You can have the heated weather. I know I will probably regret not soaking up the rays when the rain really sets in, but I appreciate the mellower temps more. It is supposed to be 70 and sunny next weekend and I am so excited for that. I am hoping we can go to the Farmer's Market before it closes for the season.
I know that feeling, Morten is having to take my outfit pictures right now...I miss my tripod!
ReplyDeleteSometimes things don't work as well that, on paper, should. I think I've worn my duo boots for more than a few Sartorial Medley posts myself :)
Nope, no denim jacket. I want one, but none of the ones I've tried fit "quite right". Maybe I should just buy one and get it tailored to fit. I'm not sure I have any denim that's 10 years old. Maybe some smaller sized jeans that I've tucked away in boxes, but nothing that gets used regularly lives that long.
It's cold enough here that I didn't want to take off my coat for my latest outfit post. It was tough even having it open without the scarf on. We'd take a few shots, I'd put my scarf on and warm up, and start again. Please, send me some warm weather!
