Four Years and Counting!

Today is mine and Mr. Diva's four year anniversary!!  I cannot believe time has passed so swiftly.  It truly seems like just yesterday we were ramping up for the big day.

We had a two-year engagement that I spent researching and planning and making every possible decoration (and more) I could.  After all the spazzing out, it all turned out so wonderful.  The only thing I would change about our wedding day (if I could relive it), is to make sure it went by slower so we could savor more of it.

It was pouring rain that morning, but turned out to be beautiful in time for pictures.

I'm so blessed and thankful that we found each other in this crazy world.  He's helped make many of my dreams come true and makes my life so happy.  His kindness and love still surprise me.  I really don't think I could have found anyone better suited for me in this life.

Here are a few more pictures from the day I married my best friend:

If you'd like to see a few more pictures, check out my post from last year's anniversary!

Rumour Has It! (Birthday Part 2)

My birthday was a few weeks ago, but I finally have a chance to tell you all about it.  It was an awesome day of fun!!   I was able to sleep in just a bit before Mr. Diva brought me Starbucks and breakfast. (and flowers!)

My beautiful Birthday flowers from Mr. Diva (left) and Kiyonna (right).  So sweet and thoughtful!

Then it was time to get ready!  I donned my Kiyonna Tiers of Joy Lace Dress (see more dress pictures and a review in my Part 1 Birthday post) and tiara (I always wear it on my birthday).

A deejay on the radio mentioned this particular karaoke place last year and I have wanted to check it out since.  Voicebox in Portland, Oregon is a karaoke lounge.  They have six private suites, so it is just you and your friends in a private room singing with each other.

Nigel, Felis, and I posing at Voicebox

So many of my friends are shy singers, so I thought this would be so much better for all of us.  The room had a large, open booth seating area along three walls.  A coffee table in the middle held our drinks, song booklets, and a tambourine.  The big television on the wall played the music and showed the song lyrics, while two wireless microphones were passed around for singing.  They also had a website set up so you could pick your songs and put them in the queue from your smartphone.  Too much fun!!  They served yummy appetizer-type food and lots of Sake-infused beverages.

After Karaoke Fun Time, we all headed over to my friend Christopher's house for more party time.  Dinner and hors d'oeuvres were served and punch was plentiful.  The weather turned out so lovely that day, so we made our way outside to hang out and visit.

Thank you to all my friends and family who were able to come out and celebrate with me!!  And thank you to Christopher for hosting and Mindy for baking a yummy cake!

What I Wore: Rumour Has It! (Birthday Part 1)

I was going to attempt to do one big birthday post but, because I have a ton of pictures to show you, it's going to be a two-parter.  Be sure to check out Part 2 for more fun!

I love having a birthday!  I don't really love the "getting older" part of it, but I love an excuse to party with my friends and family, presents, and all the fun attention.  It's a blast!  Last year, I had the opportunity to see Neil deGrasse Tyson (He's the most awesome astrophysicist ever!) speak at the University of Washington.  Mr. Diva and I had a fantastic time in Seattle celebrating, but I missed out on seeing all my friends.

This year, I planned a party so I could make sure to see everyone.  I also wanted to do something a little bit different than just hanging out at my house.  So what's a girl to do??

I heard about this great karaoke lounge in Portland called Voicebox.  They have private suites where just you and your friends can sing to your heart's content.  The hardest part was deciding which songs to do!

What wasn't hard was deciding what to wear.  Kiyonna sent me the Tiers of Joy Lace Dress just in time for all the festivities.  Not only was I looking forward to my birthday celebration, but I was looking forward to wearing this dress.  As pretty as it looks online, it looks even better in person.  I call it my Adele dress because it really looks like something she would wear.

The dress fit very well.  I did have to use garment tape again because of my small bust, but the empire waist and arms fit me perfectly.  The lining was thick enough that I didn't really need a slip, but the dress wasn't thick and hot or uncomfortable.  My favorite features of the dress are the beautiful v-neckline, full skirt, gathers at the shoulders, and the pretty lace.  I received so many wonderful compliments from my friends!

I paired the dress with nude wedges, rose gold bracelet and earrings (my goods from the Jessica Kane/InPink gift card giveaway), and my customary tiara. (I wear it every year!)

Tiers of Joy Lace Dress - Kiyonna
Rose Gold Stones Stretch Bracelet - InPink (I had to restring two of them to make one that fit me)
Rose Gold and Rhinestones Earrings - InPink
Tiara - eBay
Nude Wedges - Payless

After karaoke, my dear friend Christopher hosted a party at his house with dinner, hors d'oeuvres, punch, plenty alcoholic beverages, and lots of laughter.  My cousin Mindy made a yummy German chocolate cake for me as well.  It was a great night hanging out in the beautiful weather, spending time with people I love.

Make sure to check out Part 2 for more fun photos of the festivities!

Yes, I had to change shoes into something more comfortable by the end of the night. lol

Disclosure: I am a member of the Kiyonna Blogger Brigade and they provided me with the dress in this post.  All opinions on the item are my own.

{Crafting Diva} How To: DIY Star Wars Zipper Flower Hair Barrette

Hello, my dahlings!

It is time for another craft tutorial post.  I haven't been as crafty as I would like to be lately.  I blame it on all the friggin' birthdays in May.  There is just too much going on!  People, STOP getting frisky in August because I am tired of sharing my birthday month with more and more people!! :-P

When we planned our outing to the Stumptown Comics Fest this year, I knew I wanted to nerd it up more than last year.  I've also been meaning to try my hand at making a zipper flower.  These two ideas combined in my brain, which I made into a reality.

I present you with the Star Wars Zipper Flower Hair Barrette:

I originally had my heart set on an Ewok, but Wicket is hard to come by.  Ackbar is another favorite character of mine and was easily accessible on eBay.

- Long zipper in any color
- Felt (I usually recommend using felt in a similar color to your hair color)
- Alligator barrette clips (This was a big flower, so I used two of my small clips)
- Fabric paint/glue/glitter or other sequins, rhinestones, beads, or doodads for decoration purposes
- Needle and thread
- Hot glue gun
- and your mini Lego Star Wars character

1.  Cut the zipper into sections appropriate for the size of petals you want.  I used sections about an inch and a half to 2 inches long.  Use your needle and thread to make a basting stitch across the fabric part of the zipper.  Get pretty close to the edge for this.

2.  Pull the thread to gather the edge of the zipper section.  Overlap the two ends and sew them together.

3.  Once you make all your petals, sew them to the felt in flower formation.  I overlapped my petals a bit.

4.  Cut the felt so you have somewhat of a square or circle left on the backside.  You could cut the shape before you sew your petals on, but I found it easier to hold onto a larger piece of felt while sewing.  You just want to make sure it is small enough that it can't be seen when you are wearing the barrette.

5.  Next, cut two strips of felt (about 1/4" by 1 1/2").  Position your barrettes where you would like them to be and glue them in place with the hot glue.  Hot glue the felt strips across the inside of the barrettes to provide extra support.  (In retrospect, I may have even opted for a stiffer felt or made my petals just a wee bit smaller)

6.  Now decorate your flower to your heart's content.  I used black sparkly paint to give it more of a Star Wars/Death Star kind of vibe. (Plus, it is hard for me to make something without sparkles)

7.  Using hot glue, attach your mini Lego character of choice and proudly prance around in all your geeky awesomeness!  ( I got tons of compliments when I wore mine, even at the grocery store!)

Do you have a favorite Star Wars character?  Or what do you geek out about?

Fun times at the Stumptown Comics Fest 2012

I've previously talked about the Stumptown Comics Fest before.  It is an annual comics event in Portland, Oregon featuring tons of artists and comics.   This was our second year attending - this time with friends.  We had a lot of fun checking out everyone's work.

I don't take photos inside because these kinds of events usually have rules against that kind of thing.  However, I can show you the fun stuff we took home with us that day.

We bought this Yo Gabba Gabba children's comic book for my niece.  I thought it was cool that they incorporated one of her favorite shows into comic form. (From Oni Press)

Fun magnets and stickers:

Magnets from Monkey Minion Press.

"Mutt's Nuts" sticker by Max Clotfelter.  Chinchilla sticker from Melanie Ujimori.

A "hipster corgi" charm that I put on the stylus for my iPod.  I thought he was super cute.

Corgi charm from Melani Ujimori.

This is another fun print by Nicole Georges.  (Spinster Summer Etsy store)  Last year I bought the cute kissing foxes from her.  This year I opted for the precious skunk family.

Nicole also had some small prints available at her table for free.  I love all things doggy, so I had to have these two sweet drawings.

Mr. Diva opted for this print to decorate his bathroom.  (From Pony Club Gallery)

This is called "Tug of War" by Jason Fischer.  It features various Sasquatch and Totem characters in a game of Tug of War.  It made us smile at the uniqueness of it. (and I love all the colors.)

Another fun year checking out the goods at the SCF!  Looking forward to next year!

Q & A Monday: One or the Other

Happy Memorial Day and Happy Monday!  I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!  The husband and I were both luxuriously lazy, watching DVRed shows and movies, playing video games, and just enjoying our peace and quiet.

Today's Q & A Friend Makin' Monday is pretty basic, but will still give you some insight into my personality.  If you do this on your blog, please link back to All The Weigh and leave a comment so everyone can visit you!

 FMM: One or the Other

1. Shower or Bubble Bath?  Shower.  If I had a giant tub, I would indulge in a bubble bath more often.

2. Money or Power?  Money

3. Country Music or Rap?  I'd rather listen to rap.  I despise country music.  It makes me nauseous.

4. Sunshine or Thunderstorms?  Both have their ups and downs.  After all the rain going on up here, I could go for some sunshine right about now.

5. Uniform or Suit?  Suit, I suppose.  More opportunity to still make it my own.

6. Chocolate or Vanilla?  Chocolate.

7. Beauty or Brains?  Brains

8. Newspaper or Online News?  Online

9. Marinara or Alfredo?  Alfredo, specifically Mushroom Alfredo or Pesto Alfredo.

10. Lip Gloss or Lip Stick?  I'm a lip gloss junkie!

11. Beach or Mountains?  Beach

12. Talk or Text?  Depends on the person and my mood.  I do enjoy having the give and take of a face-to-face conversation with friends.

13. CNN or Fox News?  I don't watch the news really.  Sometimes I catch Rachel Maddow or I watch The Daily Show.  I can tell you that I would never watch Fox News and don't allow it in my house.

14. Cake or Potato Chips?  Again, it depends on my mood.  Right now, I could really go for some tater chips!

15. Movies at home or at the theater?   I enjoy watching them in my pajamas at home, but theater popcorn tastes better.  (And who can resist the GIANT screen?)

16. Bar or Bookstore? Bookstore is probably more my speed these days.

17. Rock or Pop?  Pop

18. Manicure or Facial?  Manicure.  I've never had a facial and would like to try it at least once though.

19. Book or e-reader?  I have Kindle on my PC, but have yet to really use it to read the free books I have downloaded.  I prefer an old-fashioned book in my hands.

20. Planes or Trains?  Neither.  I am terrified of planes and flying.  And I had to travel on a train for 3 days with nothing but a sandwich and a bottle of water.  It was horrid.

Now it’s your turn to answer this week’s questions.  Don’t forget to go to All The Weigh and link up in the comments!
