For once I can touch what my heart used to dream of...

Today is my fifth wedding anniversary!!  It honestly does not seem like it has been that long.  I don't want to get too mushy on y'all, but I have to say that I still truly believe with all my heart that I have found the perfect person for me.  He still brings me flowers every Friday.  He still lovingly deals with my dramatics, my love of shopping, my constant need to entertain or sing.  He funds my NKOTB adventures and loves me with all his heart.  He still makes my world the happiest it has ever been.

This year, I thought I would post some pictures from the details of the wedding.  I handmade so much and decorated so many things for our big day.  It was an intense labor of love for me.  If you'd like to see some more portrait photos, check out posts from 2012 and 2011.

- I made all of our invitations by hand, even the pockets for all the inserts.  I had an Invitation Party with friends to put together some of the aspects of the invitations.  It was a wine and cheese party and my mom got drunk and punched holes on the wrong side of about half of the invitations.  I had to do those all over again by myself.  The other pictures are of "Day Of" boxes I made for family and bridal party members.  They had granola bars, safety pins, lint rollers, breath mints, band aids, mini bottles of water and the like.  I also made place holder cards for family members.

- For the ceremony, my sister-in-law and I decorated topiaries with ribbon, flowers, and pearl garlands.  I designed and made all of our programs, decorated the basket, decorated frames and a candle holder for our memory table, decorated the candle holders for the arch, made monogram door signs, made boutonnieres and bouquets, etc.  We found a wonderfully textured length of fabric for our aisle runner.  We had to affix brown satin ribbon to each side of the 18-foot runner.

- My necklace and bracelet were made by me because I could never find something with the right colors.  My dress was ivory and champagne with darker champagne pearls and pinkish sparkles.  I also spent fourteen hours applying rhinestones to a pink velour hoodie with my married name and wedding date.  It was a fun project and really came in handy since it was pouring rain that morning.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Happy 5th Anniversary!! McMenamins Edgefield, Photos by Becerra Photography

- With the help of my mother-in-law, I learned to sew (the very basics) in order to make my husband's vest and tie, my bridesman's vest and tie, and a tie for my nephew.  I also designed and sewed together a coordinating ring pillow.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Happy 5th Anniversary!! McMenamins Edgefield, Photos by Becerra Photography

- My brother walked me halfway down the aisle to represent my dad who died when I was 17.  Then I joined my stepdad, who walked me the rest of the way.  I was missing my dad so much.  As my brother let go of my arm and I went to walk with my stepdad, the reality of what that represented to me really hit home.  I totally ugly cried in the middle of my walk down the aisle.  lol

- Going clockwise in the next photo: Reception door decor made with wooden letters, rhinestones, paint, and feathered hearts; We made 300 tissue paper flowers in order to make these particular pom pom balls to decorate the reception.  They now hang from the ceiling of my craft room.  I wasn't about to throw them away after all that work.; Card box I decorated; Groom and Bride plaques for our table; a ribboned place card holder.

- More reception fun: I found the rhinestone monogram on eBay; The monogrammed glass dessert plates were also the wedding favors we gave to guests.  My in-laws were mostly in charge of making those, but we did help put all the pieces of glass together before they were placed in the kiln.; The cupcake menu, drink menu, and food menu cards were all designed, made, and put together by me.  I found the cupcake card holder at Target, but had to paint it pink and yellow to match my wedding colors.; Painted and rhinestoned the "I DO" letters; and found great napkins online.

- Dancing at the reception: My stepdad danced with me, and my brother and I also danced together to "Dance With My Father" by Luther Vandross.

- This is an event that will NEVER, ever happen again.  It was time for the Electric Slide.  My mom, stepmom, brother, little sister, and friends all joined me on the dance floor.  It was a wonder my mom and stepmom were even in the same room together, so this was pretty amazing to me.  I am sure it helped that wine was involved.  But then my mom started dirty dancing with her then boyfriend and I almost threw up. lol

I hope you have enjoyed this walk down memory lane with me!  I get so emotional going over all the pictures because all the feelings come flooding back.  Have a great last day of May, everyone!!

What I Wore: Crafty Wonderland Fun!

Time for the final installment of my birthday weekend fun!  On Saturday, we headed out to Crafty Wonderland in Portland, OR to browse the booths and look for treasures.  The big Crafty Wonderland sales take place twice a year and I just love them.  The booths are filled with all kinds of hand-made goods and unique items.  It includes everything from clothing and artwork to hair accessories, decor, purses, jewelry, and more.  I call it "Etsy in person".

DivineMrsDiva.com - Torrid tank and sandals, SWAK Designs Amber Shrug, Embellished denim capris from Lane Bryant, Coach handbag

I went with the three Cs for my outfit - comfy, casual, and colorful!  The denim capris are soft with some stretch to them.  They fit me more like a straight leg or slight skinny jean.  The wash is a little bit lighter and they have some embellishment on the back pockets (aka "Sparkle Butt Capris").  So far, they haven't stretched out much during wear.

Sean gave me the headband as an early birthday present the night before in case I wanted to wear it instead of my tiara.  (I usually wear my tiara out for my birthday, but I know some people can't handle a grown woman in a tiara who isn't getting married or winning a pageant lol)  It added a significant amount of sparkle to my head, which I love!  This day was also the maiden voyage of my first Coach purse!  I actually haven't switched purses since then.  I love the bright, cheery color!

I found these goodies at Crafty Wonderland.  You should know already that I love chihuahuas and this brooch reminded me of Miss P.  Chubby puppies and dancing woodland creatures for the win!!

Once we got home from the crafty fun time, I had to freshen up and start up the food for my birthday party.  We welcomed friends, chatted, ate, played some karaoke, and had lots of laughs.

Q & A Monday: Summer Fun

As I write this, I am having trouble keeping my eyes open.  This weekend has included a 6-year-old's birthday party, watching "Jack Reacher", cooking a tasty breakfast, running errands, playing Skyrim, and making a To Do List for the coming week.

Our time-consuming event today was driving around looking at more houses.  We just left the house to drive by one house we saw online, but we ended up being gone for three hours looking for "For Sale" signs.  We brought the boys with us; they love smelling all the smells of new neighborhoods.

Rusty and Kiki going for a ride

My husband has Monday off, so I think we will get groceries and watch a movie before having dinner with my mom-in-law.

I hope you all have a fantastic week!!

It is time again for Friend Makin' Monday.  If you have a blog, I would like to invite you to answer the questions as well.  Leave me a comment here, so I know you are playing.  Then you can also leave a comment over at All The Weigh, so other folks can check out your answers as well.  It is a fun way to connect to other bloggers.

Summer Fun

1.  What is your favorite summer fruit?
I LOVE fruit.  I always associate watermelon with summer because we would fill up on watermelon daily when I used to visit my grandma in the summer.  I also love grapes, peaches, blackberries, mangoes, and cherries.

2.  Do you know how to swim?
Yes, I took lessons when I was 4-years-old.  Part of childhood (ages 9 to 13-ish) we lived in a house with a pool.  I basically lived in the pool then.  I love swimming!  I just never get a chance to do it anymore.

3.  Do you prefer sun or snow?
I suppose sun, although I would rather be too cold than too hot.  There is just way more fun stuff to do in the summer because the weather is easier to navigate.

4.  What temperature do you like most inside your home?
I like it best between 62 and 66, I suppose.

5.  Is it humid where you live?
It isn't too bad most of the time.  Having grown up in the South where it is incredibly humid, I am happy to be living in a climate where I can breathe easy and my hair doesn't frizz up into a fuzzy ball on a regular basis.

6. What is your favorite food to put on the grill?

I love grilled food.  It just has such an awesome flavor.  My favorite thing is veggie skewers with mushrooms, onions, red bell peppers, zucchini, etc.  Add shrimp and I am good. :-)

7. Do you prefer to wear a one-piece or two-piece swim suit?
I prefer the support of a one-piece.  Our honeymoon five years ago was the first time I bought a bathing suit in about 15 or so years.

8.  What is your favorite summer drink?
Margaritas!!

9.  Do you prefer the pool or the ocean?
Pool.  And preferably a private pool that no one has released their bladder into or defecated in.  And I can't be in the pool alone because I have an irrational fear of piranhas coming into the pool through the deep end.  The ocean has too many scary things in it, like animals, people, waste, chemicals, and the like.

10.  What are you looking forward to most over the summer?

I am looking forward to seeing the NKOTB Package Tour in July and hopefully going to the beach with my husband and furkids.

Now it is your turn!  Don't forget to link up with Kenlie, and here in the comments!  Happy Monday!

What I Wore: Showing Some Skin

Continuing with my birthday fun...

Sean and I kicked off my birthday weekend by heading out to dinner at a tasty Portland establishment called Hawthorne Fish House.  They have such wonderfully yummy fried fish, crab cheese soup, fish tacos and more!  I went with the Chile-Fried Catfish and chips.  It was delightfully spicy, crispy, moist, and straight up delicious.

Next up was a Chris Hardwick show at the Helium Comedy Club.  We made it over with time to spare, so you know I had to have a little photo shoot.  Kiyonna sent me this lovely Cayden Cold-Shoulder Top recently.  I just had to rock it for my night out!

We had awesome seats!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Cayden Cold Shoulder Top from Kiyonna, Lane Bryant Chevron Pencil Skirt, Peep Toe Flats from Avenue

This top is fantastic!  It is made with a soft, stretchy fabric that flows nicely.  The cowl neck drapes so beautifully.  I also loved the shirttail hem, which is a different feature from my other Kiyonna items.  I like that it hangs a little bit longer as to conceal my tummy a little bit.  I usually shy away from showing my arms because I am not there yet confidence-wise.  These cutaway sleeves are a perfect way to show some skin, stay cool, but have some coverage.

I decided to pair this top with a fun chevron striped pencil skirt to add some pattern to the ensemble.  The skirt is a ponte knit and super comfortable as well.  I knew we would be walking around a bit in the city, so I wore these great peep toe flats.  They were easy and allowed me to enjoy the night without worrying about falling over in heels or my high wedges. (I am clumsy that way.)

What I Wore: Birthday Party Peplum

In an effort to recap all of the festivities surrounding my recent birthday, I will start from the beginning.  Towards the end of April, my cousin hosted a birthday celebration for my aunt and I.  It is an almost quarterly event to celebrate each of us, plus we usually have a Christmas get-together as well. It is always a fun time to laugh, eat yummy food, and spend time with each other.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Birthday Fun: eShakti Peplum Top, Avenue Straight Leg Jeans, Avenue Purple Loafers, Emerald Green Bubble Statement Necklace

I opted to be casual and comfortable, first and foremost.  I also wanted to wear my navy blue peplum top that I bought from eShakti a couple months or so ago.  I absolutely LOVE this style of top.  I know a lot of people are sick of the peplum now, but I am not.  I can't get enough of it!

The material is a stretchy knit that is easy to wear.  When I had this top customized, I went with elbow-length sleeves and the tunic length, which just made it slightly longer.  I now own this style in brown stripe, burgundy, and navy!  eShakti changes the styles they carry quite frequently, so keep checking the website for new items!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Birthday Fun: eShakti Peplum Top, Avenue Straight Leg Jeans, Avenue Purple Loafers, Emerald Green Bubble Statement Necklace

In addition to wearing my new top, I thought I would try the "jeans rolled up" look.  It isn't something I normally do, so why not try it?  These jeans are some shorter, straight leg ones from Avenue.  I think I should have taken some extra time to iron the rolls down a little, but I was in a hurry.  Garment tape to the rescue!!

An emerald green necklace and purple loafers for some color and - TADA!  I got lots of compliments on this outfit and was told I looked "very Parisian".

Q & A Monday: Getting To Know You

Hey, y'all!! Another weekend has come and gone.  I need at least two more days for Sean and I to get more stuff done this week.  Isn't that usually the way?

Sean and I ventured out to the Portland Bloggers Meet-Up to learn some tips on Social Media Strategies.  This is the very first meet-up I have attended, so it was one of those times I was super nervous.  I had a hard time even thinking about speaking to people.  The fellow bloggers that did talk to me were very friendly and nice, and I even met someone who reads my blog! (Hey there, Pechluck's Food Adventures!)

After the meet-up, we ate an early dinner, ran a few errands, and raced home to freshen up before heading to Bunco Night at my sister-in-law's house.

Sunday was super lazy and awesome.  We were so busy last weekend that we barely had a moment to relax.  Instead of house-hunting, we chose to sit on the couch watching my NKOTB Fenway DVD, This is 40, and Game of Thrones.

I feel good.  I feel rested.  And I feel like being productive.  This week I will be doing recaps of birthday fun and outfits. Plus, my usual non-blogging stuff like working on projects, cleaning, cooking, and the like.

I hope you all have a great week!!!

Getting To Know You

1.  Have you ever been skinny dipping?
No way, no how.  That is something I have no desire to ever do.

2.  If you could choose an exotic vacation destination today, where would you go?
Tahiti, Greece, New Zealand, Morocco, Egypt,...

3.  Do you prefer to live in the city or the suburbs?
I prefer the suburbs.  In fact, if I could choose, I would be a little outside the suburbs with a big house on a big lot so I don't have people too close to me.  I enjoy my privacy and quiet time in my older age.  The city just seems too hectic and overwhelming to me now.

4.  If you could paint, draw or illustrate any masterpiece in the world, what would it be?

The Taj Mahal, St. Basil's Cathedral in Russia, or the Hanging Gardens of Babylon (if they were real).

5.  What is your favorite dish to cook when you’re cooking for one?
Hmmmmm, when Sean hangs out with friends or has something else going on, I usually opt for a baked potato with sauteed onions and mushrooms.  Or a salad.  If it is just me, I'd rather not have to cook.

6.  Who has recently influenced you in a spectacular way?
Neil deGrasse Tyson.  I thoroughly enjoy hearing him speak on any topic.  I love his humor and his obvious passion for science.

7.  Have you ever considered dating a person who’s younger than you?  If so, how young would you go?

I've never really considered dating someone younger than me.  I always preferred slightly older guys. That being said, I am EXTREMELY picky, so most of them never really had a chance in hell.
It really depends on the guy because I've met guys in their 40s who act like children and guys in their 20s who are very smart and mature for their age.

8.  What do you typically wear when you’re at home with no plans to go out?
I am usually in pajama pants (or some other comfortable knit pants or capris), a t-shirt, and slip-on house slippers.

9.  Do you prefer a shower or a bath?
I prefer taking showers.  I know baths can be relaxing and nice, but I would want to be in a giant tub.  Those are hard to come by. lol

10.  When you meet strangers are you outgoing or more introverted?
For me, it depends on the situation.  I am just naturally very shy, anxious, and socially awkward.  There are times when I am very outgoing and friendly and do my best to be as sociable as I can be.  And other times, like this weekend, I am plagued with fear of talking to people I don't know, feel so anxious I almost vomit, and wish I was invisible until I felt comfortable enough to introduce myself to someone or ask someone a question.

Now answer the questions on your blog or in my comments section, link-up with Kenlie, and have a very Happy Monday!!

What I Wore: Sartorial Medley - Bold Colors

Welcome to the fourth installment of Sartorial Medley, a monthly fashion challenge hosted by myself and Aislynn of Couture for Curves.  (Did you miss the January, February, March, or April fun?) We welcome participation from anyone, regardless of your dress size.  From now until the 25th, email me your photo and link to your blog post at diva@divinemrsdiva.com.

Now on to this month's theme: Bold Colors.

DivineMrsDiva.com - Sartorial Medley: Bold Colors - Lane Bryant skirt and tank and cardigan, Torrid Sandals

When we decided on this month's theme, it didn't take long for me to figure out what I was going to wear.  A couple weeks ago I ventured into Lane Bryant to use my Rewards Check and found this fantastic skirt.  I love the fun print and beautiful colors (it makes me think of Greece or the Italian Riviera).  Plus, it is a fuller, flippy, fun skirt (with a lining!) that puts a pep in my step and makes me want to dance!

DivineMrsDiva.com - Sartorial Medley: Bold Colors - Lane Bryant skirt and tank and cardigan, Torrid Sandals

I paired the skirt with a royal blue Battenberg lace tank, a coral cardigan, and my fuchsia tasseled sandals that I didn't get to wear last summer.  And since I wore this outfit on my birthday this past Sunday, I donned my rhinestone headband in place of my tiara.  (I really wanted outside photos in the city, but it was raining on Sunday and the wind was terrible!  I had to hold on to my skirt tightly in order not to flash my undergarments to traffic. lol)

I went with a pretty gold eyeshadow for the day.  It is my favorite gold, BareMinerals True Gold

For my birthday, we had a very tasty dinner at P.F. Chang's and then headed to Powell's Books for Marc Maron's book signing.  Marc is a comedian both my husband and I enjoy.  He read a few chapters of his book before taking questions and then meeting everyone who wanted a book signed.  He was very nice and I finally got a picture with him!
