What I Wore: Summer Blues
Tuesday, September 16, 2014
According to Weather.com, a majority of you are still having hot summer temperatures going on. While I certainly don't wish for the eight to nine months of rain that come with a Pacific Northwest fall and winter season, I do long for cooler temperatures and more fall-like crisp air.
In the meantime, I have been getting more use out of my shorts that I dared to buy this summer. As I mentioned in a previous post, I haven't worn shorts since middle school - until this summer. It has been exciting and a much needed break from my normal summer uniform of denim capris or maxi dresses.
I still love these shorts. They have kept their shape well and don't ride up between my thighs. The swing cami, also from Lane Bryant, is cut a little more loose through the mid-section so it isn't as clingy as most of their tanks. I am so happy I ordered two colors when they had them online!
I was really excited to try this shirt when it arrived in my Gwynnie Bee package. I have previously tried a couple jackets from Mynt 1792 and a few skirts, so I was happy I was able to try another type of item. The ombre is a really great touch for this chambray shirt. The collar features flat-tipped studs for a little something extra. I thought it was such a fun embellishment!
I rolled up the sleeves for a more casual look, but was disappointed when the shirt wouldn't close around my hips. I wear a 22/24 now and this 3X was just a bit too small in the bottom section. As with most button-down styles of shirts for me, the fit is great in the bust in a smaller size, but useless for actually buttoning all the way down. Wearing it open was so cute though, I didn't mind since I was only borrowing it. Still, it is helpful to know the fit for any future purchases.

The stuff looks good...but if I'm going to pay $12 a plate, I might as well go somewhere they cook it for you and someone else has to clean up :) Of course, you're looking at someone who pretty much lives on Stouffer's box dinners a lot. I always think about cooking, but then I'm tired and I just want to throw something in the oven and eat when it's done.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if the Stouffer's stuff is GF or not, though. The ones we eat the most are the rice ones...Grandma's Chicken & Vegetable Rice Back and Fiesta Bake.
If I'm being fancy, I'll nuke a bag of veggies to go with it....hahahhaa.
I own like 4 of those skirts...I didn't buy the one you're wearing, because I own nothing that even pretends to match it and I'd just end up wearing it with one of my 8 zillion black shirts, and I have enough skirts like that. Lol.
ReplyDeleteI like the coral with it. I think it would also be cute with a blue tank. I swear I've seen you in one in one of these outfit posts but maybe I'm crazy....
I also like the shirts with banded bottoms, I find them very forgiving to my fat roll. When I tuck regular stuff in, it never stays tucked because my torso is so long.
I am becoming more of a fan of the banded bottoms, as long as the length is good. Some are so short.
ReplyDeleteI have this skirt in black, although that one needs taken in, and pink. I have a few top/cardigan options or t-shirts to try with this one. I didn't know if I had anything to match it when I bought it, but it turns out I have a lot of stuff that works. Yay! I am kind of kicking myself for not buying more colors/patterns.
haha I totally get being too tired to have any desire to cook. I like when Sean does all the chopping and I can just cook it. I don't like being my own sous chef.
ReplyDeleteI really doubt the Stouffer's stuff is GF. Typically, any processed stuff like that is going to have some form of gluten in it. Usually sauces of any kind are the biggest culprit. I have not read the label on stuff correctly and come home with something I shouldn't be having.
I do like that Plated gets as many products as they can from local farmers, but I do wish it was all organic. However, the convenience of delivery now and then is pretty cool. I like that the option even exists for people because all of the meals seem really great.
What a fun idea! I've not heard of Plated before, but now I think I'm going to gift someone with it for the holidays! As you know, we're total foodies and love sharing recipes and new ingredients with our families and friends. I'd love to get this for someone or try it out ourselves. Sometimes these pre-packaged meals can be so processed and nasty. These look really fresh and veggie-focused. The plating is beautiful, too! It's a little pricey but perfectly reasonable if you look at it as an experience to share together. It's like a dinner-at-home datenight in a box. I love that!

I loved that about it too. It was so fun to make it into an experience where we cooked together and tried something new together. I really enjoyed that. I have been going back and forth between wanting to try new recipes and not wanting to be in the kitchen at all....so it was nice to have this in the meantime. Everything was fresh and I loved that there were so many veggies involved. I have peeked now and then to see the latest menus and they all look fantastic!
