Often times, we don't think outside the box when it comes to clothing or push ourselves to buy multipurpose items. Even as someone who loves wearing things in different ways and remixing outfits, I don't feel like I do it often enough or get creative with it on a regular basis. I don't condone wearing pajamas in public, but sometimes pajamas don't have to look like pajamas.
When Lane Bryant started offering pajama sets with patterned leggings and a corresponding tunic top, I thought they would be so comfy to wear around the house. I recently had to toss a few of my old pajama pants/house pants because they were too old and getting pretty ratty. But I also loved the patterned leggings and needed more leggings to go with my chambray tunic. So I snatched up a couple sets to try. (You may also remember a similar outfit I posted with leggings from the pajama section.)
I love the burgundy, tan, and blue colors of this particular plaid pattern. I thought it would be a great fit with my dark blue tunic. The cotton material of these leggings is thinner and stretches out a bit easier, but they still looked fine at the end of the day. I also bought the grey dachshund thermal set, but those leggings were baggier and, therefore, not right to wear with boots. I kept them as an around-the-house set.
I find an outfit like this easy to throw on for running errands or hanging out with friends. There is really no excuse to look like a raggamuffin in baggy pajama pants and slippers at the grocery store, even if you are going to Wal-Mart. lol It's such a pet peeve of mine!

I don't go in SLIPPERS. But my Wal-Mart outfits may sometimes feature t-shirts with holes in them. This is because I generally try to go early in the morning. I mostly don't wear pajama pants either. I may have yoga pantsed a time or two, though...hahaha.
ReplyDeleteI like this outfit a lot. I bought some patterned leggings from SWAK (the kaleidoscope sweater ones - PS they run kinda small in the butt so if you are bootylicious I'd err on the side of bigger) and wore them with a dress...I felt weird about them, but I'm trying to get over that.
Ah, yes! I think I have three of the LB Sleep maxis that I have worn as actual maxis. I feel like they fit better and I like the patterns and colors more.
ReplyDeleteI like the patterns of those SWAK leggings, but I was wondering about the fit. In the website pics, they look more loose at the bottom of the leg so I was wary of buying some.
Yoga pants are more acceptable, but I am also someone who has only worn yoga pants around the house or to the hospital. LOL Hopefully, I haven't alienated too many people with my strong opinions on what to wear to the grocery store. I've already offended fairweather fans and gun nuts on Facebook today. hahahaha
PS - I took photos of all the jeans and other clothes I am going to sell. I now have to get all the info for them and make the photo album.
Everybody has their pet peeves. My personal one is french manicured toenails. I just think it's so tacky and also kind of gross. I also am pretty sure I've offended some of my more conservative friends on Facebook by pointing out their lack of logic. :)
ReplyDeleteThe SWAK leggings are a little baggy at the bottom, but not too bad (everything that fits over my stomach and butt is too big in the legs). Since your calves are a little bigger than mine, the 4x would probably be fine. It's not that they don't fit, it's just that they're very straight-up-and-down through the hip and don't have as much stretch as regular knit leggings. The colors are pretty, though.
Yay pictures! And PS, the Aerosoles boots I ordered would probably be a no-go for anyone whose calves were any bigger than mine, which are around 17.5-18". I had to unzip the second zipper partway. However, they were the A2 by Aerosoles variety, and in my experience, those run smaller/narrower. If there's a DSW near you, they usually have some of the boots...might be worth a try-on. They also generally have them at Famous Footwear and sometimes at Kohl's.
I do not wear slippers out of the house...unless I forget to take them off, but I usually realize it about two flights down the stairs (so three flights from the street). Khan throws a tantrum when I head back up the stairs, but I'm not about to risk my lovely slippers on the dirty sidewalks!
ReplyDeleteLately I've been thinking quite a bit about patterned leggings and whether or not I should bother - after reading this, I feel much more comfortable with the idea. I could easily slip a pair of wool leggings under regular leggings, so it might even work when it's colder (like now). We'll see. I'm eyeballing a few pairs on amazon right now.
Oh I definitely think you should give it a go! I bet they would look great on you. I would also like to find some really great patterened tights because I love that added texture look. Sometimes it is hard to find a pattern that really fits your aesthetic or personality, that has been my issue. But other than that, I love them!
