This month's Afternoon Live segment is about styling tips for staying warm, comfortable, and fashionable this winter! I share simple tips for creating a pulled-together look, along with budget-friendly options to maximize your wardrobe and recommendations for wide calf boots.
I used to find layering so daunting, plus I usually ran really warm no matter where I was. Since losing my thyroid to cancer, I get cold more easily and find it really hard to warm back up. While stores still seem to jack up the heat at the first sign of a mild breeze, I am most likely sweating while shopping. Layering is key to keeping me warm outdoors and not too cranky in the heated indoors. Check out my tips and let me know your own winter tips in the comments!

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 52/49/58.
Winter Styling Tips:
- Layering is key - tanks, sweatshirts, vests, leggings under pants, etc.
- Wear accessories that match and/or complement your outerwear and/or outfit
- Maximize your budget or wardrobe space by choosing a color scheme for your wardrobe and shopping accordingly
- Don't be afraid to go on the hunt thrifting for great finds and budget-friendly prices, especially for more expensive items like coats
- If you are in the Portland area, Fat Fancy, Savvy Plus, and Curvy Chic Closet are a few options for thrifting.
- While our options are limited, us wide calf folks have a lot more options than we used to. Some of my favorite places to search for wide calf boots are:
- Torrid
- Simply Be - Use this link to get 25% off your first order and free shipping
- Catherines
- Lane Bryant
- WideWidths.com
- Also, check out Authentically Emmie's 2018 guide to wide calf boots. She may have a new one for this year out soon!
- A great place to check for coats is also Ulla Popken. I love the two jackets I have from them. They are extremely well-made and fit more on the generous side.
- Websites like Woman Within, Roaman's, and FullBeauty are some other places to look for layering items and coats and other clothing, and are great options if you wear larger than a size 24 or 26.
Always having fun with Tra'Renee! We laugh and dance and talk of our love for sparkles and hoop earrings! |
