What I Wore: Black and White

Hi, everyone!  I hope you all had a fantastic weekend!  Mine was busy - good and bad.  My chihuahua, Kiki, has been having some health issues and had to go to the vet a couple times.  He's doing a bit better and on a handful of medications, but we have been pretty concerned about him.  We also hosted Bunco at our house this weekend.  Thankfully, half of Sunday and all of Monday was a restful time to regroup and take it easy.

Last week, this skirt came in my Gwynnie Bee shipment.  It is by the brand Triste, which I haven't tried before.  I decided to try my hand at pattern mixing again when styling this skirt.  I typically try to pull out pieces from my closet that I don't wear as much in order to shake up my thinking.  The black and white top seemed like the perfect option.  I really love the result!  Black and white is obviously a classic and on trend combination no matter what, but Lane Bryant and Catherine's both have new collections for fall that feature a lot of this combo.

I was actually really pleased with this skirt.  It seems well made and fit well.  The black and white pattern is really fun, while the pinky purple waistband adds a nice pop of color.  It is an A-line skirt, though not a very full one.  The length worked well for me being just a tad below my knee.  (I'm 5'9".)

Be advised the skirt itself is not stretchy at all, but there is a little smocked elastic panel in the waistband.  The criticism I had of the skirt is that the waistband tends to want to roll with movement.  It would have been easy to add a belt over the waist to keep the band in place, but that totally defeats the purpose of the beautifully decorative color.

Have you tried this skirt or other items from Triste?  What is your favorite color combo for fashion?

  1. You know I love this color combination too, but I think my favorite part is your subtle print mixing! The polka dot detail along the neck is really playful and cute against the more sophisticated, graphic pattern on the skirt. I've not heard of Triste either. I'll have to check it out.

I can't believe that fuschia sash is part of the skirt, though. What an awesome touch! You can cover it with a black (or any color, I suppose) belt for a less splashy look, but I love splashy! You're looking good, girl! And this look has so many attributes that I love: it's fun, it's feminine, it's a little quirky, and it's still very sophisticated and chic. Nicely styled!

  2. Thank you about Kiki. He is definitely better at taking meds than I imagine a cat would be. I was actually able to put his pill in a piece of toast, wrap it in peanut butter, and stick it in his mouth this morning. He ate it that way instead of spitting it out. lol

I am gonna check out the smock dresses. I think they look a little more like the last couple skater dresses I bought except a tad shorter, which I want for wearing with leggings in the fall. I still haven't worn the floral one I bought, BUT it is gonna look awesome with boots, leggings, and that faux leather vest I just bought from LB. Kind 90s.

I was hoping my lipstick would match the waistband perfectly because it is more of a purple pink (Revlon Balm Stain in Lovesick), but it looks a little more pink in the photo. It is my favorite lippy right now. It is so bright and fun. I usually get tons of compliments when I wear it out. That one is definitely one of the Revlon ones that has some extra oomph to it!

  3. Isn't that waistband awesome?!?! I LOVE the color and it looks so great with the black and white. I don't think I would ever want to cover it up with a belt.
I was hoping you'd like the pattern mixing. I thought of you when I was trying to put it together and then the polka dot top jumped out at me. I was ready for it not to work, but I loved it when I put it on. Thank you for all the lovely words!
