What I Wore: Summer Hues

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  Thursday was Independence Day, so Sean and I headed over to our friends' house to visit.  We ate some tasty food, drank wine/beer, and shared lots of laughs with our friends.  When the sun started to set, we all sat out in the front yard to watch all the fireworks.  It was a fantastic evening!

I decided to wear the comfortable and easy to wear Winona dress from Kiyonna.  I wanted to be summery and this coral color is just beautiful!  I had quite a few pieces of jewelry that went well with it, but it was so gorgeous with the turquoise.  I couldn't deny the pairing.  Not only did I get compliments from my sweet friends, but three cashiers at Lowe's stopped me to compliment the dress and necklace.  That always makes a girl feel good!

I was skeptical of the hi-lo trend for quite some time before I tried this dress.  (I've also worn the pretty green version.)  It is quite lovely, flowing, and something extra to make it more interesting.  I love the way it looks.

Wrap dresses are such versatile pieces that can be dressed up or down just by changing your shoes and accessories.  Even with minimal additions to your ensemble, a wrap dress gives an instant "put together" look.  It is a classic piece guaranteed to come in handy for most any occasion.  Plus, it is made of super comfortable soft and stretchy material that isn't too heavy or hot.  Throw it on, tie it up (it stays put), and you are ready for the day!

This dress went well with my nude flats for hanging out with friends and running errands earlier in the day.  I'm a practical girl at heart, but I also paired this dress with my nude wedges for a more dressed up look.

  1. I got this one from Kiyonna too, but I haven't worn it yet! You look beautiful in it :) Hey, I know how much you love trash talkin' on the internet.... look at what this woman wrote on my Hems for Her facebook page. Really??? https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=506896959382446&set=a.209114649160680.51941.201569983248480&type=1&theater&notif_t=photo_comment

  2. Thank you! I adore this color. I need more coral in my life!

Am I a trash talker? To me, trash talkers aren't very fact-based. I only say things that are true. lol And you know what is true? That lady is a wench, a crazy wench. You look fabulous in that dress. I love the colors and the pattern and the halter neckline looks lovely on you. My shoulders are much too broad for halters.

Speaking of crazy wenches, Kiyonna posted the photo of Rebecca from FFFWeek in the lace top and she looks gorgeous! So why was some lady saying "She would look better if she was in black from head to toe"? Say WHAT??? Girl, there is a nut in every hut. At least the naysayers haven't been quite as vocal lately. Maybe in the summer most of them go to the beach and make fun of everyone that doesn't look like a supermodel.

  3. Katie - that bitch be crazy. You look adorable. I love the colors in that dress...I wonder how generous the sizing is. I might have to add it to my closet and see.

Also, Hailey, you look so cute. I love the coral with the turquoise. I wish I could wear that color without looking horribad, but I'll leave it to you brunettes :)

  4. I really love that dress. Coral didn't suit me, but I'm so happy with my green one. I like the Hi-Lo thing, because most dresses are shorter at the back then on the front. That's the thing with big backsides. ;)

You look absolute fabulous, and the combo with the turquoise is awesome. Love the look. <3

    Love, Mel xoxo

Love the aqua and coral! It's a nice twist on red and blue for the 4th.

I keep checking Kiyonna, waiting for something to catch my eye. I should have snatched up that hot pink lace number you have in gray, but I waited too long...and....POOF! Gone! In the meantime, I'm waiting for more pastel and sherbet colors. They were really popular earlier in the summer, but more with straight sizes than plus sizes. Because of this - and because I'm broke - I've at least been able to keep my shopping in check...but IGIGI just launched several new dresses I'm loving. I just ordered the Jocelyn dress in raspberry with white roses printed along the hem of the skirt. Should be arriving here shortly!

Anyways, here's a link to my new blog. I've changed the focus and am doing more writing about reading and life in Savannah. www.withwonderandwhimsy.com
