Q & A Monday: The Internet

Oh boy, what a weekend it has been.  Our main thing was Bunco on Saturday night, which was great fun.  Otherwise, we needed to pack some more moving boxes.

I don't know what the high temperature was for either day this weekend, but I can tell you that it was damn near 100 degrees both days.  That is insanely hot for this area.  Most houses do not have air conditioning.  Our window units just can't keep up with the weather being too hot, so we have been quite miserable.  There are no trees to shade our house in the slightest.

I write this post from the *somewhat* cooler bedroom, seeing as how the rest of the house is humid and uncomfortable.  We drove around this afternoon just to use the AC in the car.  And we sat in the car with the AC blasting for 20 minutes before coming to bed.  Being too hot makes me cranky.

And I understand I probably sound like a total wuss to those of you used to the heat, who love the heat, who have had to deal with it for a few months already - I totally get that.  And I know it could be worse.  I grew up in the South where heat and humidity are common place.  But today, I am acclimated to Pacific Northwest weather and I cannot handle much over 80 degrees.

Stay cool and hydrated, my friends!

It is time again for Friend Makin' Monday.  If you have a blog, I would like to invite you to answer the questions as well.  Leave me a comment here, so I know you are playing.  Then you can also leave a comment over at All The Weigh, so other folks can check out your answers as well.  It is a fun way to connect to other bloggers.

The Internet

1.  Have you ever met anyone online before meeting them in person?
I have.  Some of my really close friends were people I met online before meeting them in person.

2.  What is your opinion on social media’s impact on our society?  Does it make life better or worse?
I find it exciting and interesting to be able to connect with people and their experiences at any moment in time.  But as someone who has to keep up with all the social media on a daily basis for blogging related things, it is quite overwhelming.  I certainly think there are cons to the abundance of social media, such as young kids not learning how to really connect with people (especially in person) and not learning to spell correctly, but overall I find it to be a fascinating tool.

3.  Do you believe that it’s possible to fall in love with someone that you’ve never met in person?
Well, this is kind of tricky for me to answer.  I think if both parties are being honest and truthful and open in their correspondence with one another, then it is possible to develop feelings and a strong connection with someone online.  However, there is so much more to love and relationships than that.  I feel to truly be in love with someone, you have to spend time with them and get to know them, how they act, and the things they don't say as well.

4.  Do you prefer to shop in stores or online?
I would prefer to shop in a store because I love to try on clothes, touch fabrics and objects, etc. I like the experience of shopping.  But it is so easy to find better deals or coupons or something more like you are looking for by doing a simple internet search, I usually end up buying online (unless I need the item right away).

5.  What blogging platform do you use?  (WordPress, Blogger, something else?)
I use Blogger.  I actually like it and haven't had all the problems I hear a lot of other bloggers complaining about.

6.  Have you ever blogged for another site?  Would you?
I haven't, but I would consider it.

7.  Do you use services like Netflix and Hulu?
I use Netflix a lot.  Right now, I am rewatching The Office, so I watch a few episodes every day.  We recently paused our subscription to Hulu Plus and are cutting down our cable so we can save some money before our move.

8.  Would you prefer to get blog comments or to interact on Twitter?
I like both, but I like being able to get in a deeper conversation and explain things more on the blog comments.  I need to be more active on Twitter.  I just always forget to post during the day unless I am doing something super fun.

9.  Do you prefer to read books or e-books?
I love physically holding a book in my hand, but the convenience of e-books and having all of them at your fingertips is really wonderful as well.

10.  Share at least one experience that you would not have had without being a blog author.
For starters, I wouldn't have met all the awesome people I have met online so far through the blog.  It is pretty great to be able to converse with like-minded people from all over the world.
Also, I have received some pretty amazing emails from women who say that my blog has helped them with their self-image, to see that they are truly beautiful.  Something I said helped people feel good about themselves.  That is pretty darn amazing.  I feel honored that anything I could say could touch someone in that way, something I wouldn't have been able to do without the blog.

Now take a moment to answer the questions for yourself and link up!  I hope y'all have a great Monday!!

  1. A suggestion for super hot weather: get 2 box fans. Put one in a window facing out and one facing in. It really helps. They also have a 2-in-1 fan at Walmart and Target that has both (inward/outward). Hopefully it will cool off soon. Being hot is dumb.

  2. I just came over from Alltheweigh.com and I love your site! When I have time I'm going to come back and look at all the clothes!! I'm struggling with finding clothes that I feel comfortable in and look nice at the same time. And I definitely agree with number nine!!

  3. There is truly something magical about reading a book from the pages it is printed on, touching the pages, smelling the ink. I think it connects me more to the book and adds to the power of reading overall.
    Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Hmmm, I will tell Sean about that. He was going to Costco to see if they had a smaller unit for the kitchen window. Home Depot was SOLD OUT of every fan and AC unit, minus 2 $500 ACs. lol
I am just really hoping it cools off for New Kids next week. I cannot handle those girls/women being cranky and hot. I will flip my lid. So far, the forecast says Vancouver, BC will be mid-70s, so that is pretty good.

  5. Hi, Amanda! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy looking at all my outfits. I definitely appreciate comfort too. It can be a tough balance to find comfy yet cute clothing, but there are lots of options out there nowadays. If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a comment or send an email. :-)
