This is it, folks!  The last of my Torrid Outlander Collection reviews.  I had a lot of fun shooting these looks and putting them all together.  With Droughtlander almost over, I am looking forward to planning a meal from the Outlander Kitchen Cookbook for premiere night on February 16th!

Today's post is about two dresses from the collection, the Claire Ivory Keyhole Dress and the Navy Bell Sleeve Hi-Lo Midi Dress.  Both dresses can be casual or dressed-up, and they both can moonlight as cosplay pieces if needed.  I'm going to show you a bit of both!

Full disclosure: both dresses are already sold out online, so if they interest you I encourage you to check Poshmark regularly.  When I am looking for a sold out piece, I search on Poshmark at least a couple times a week.  The item usually turns up.

The Claire Ivory Keyhole Dress is a pretty spot-on replica of Claire's 1940's dress at the start of Season One.  The main differences are that this one has the added ruffle cuff on the sleeve, it is super white compared to the more eggshell hue of Claire's dress, and the fabric is a bit more light and flowy than the fabric of Claire's dress.  But it gets the look across.  I wasn't going to buy this dress because I hate wearing white.  And even though I really wanted an easy Claire cosplay, I was trying to be practical and responsible.  But then I found Lindley Key on Instagram and was inspired by her Claire cosplay look with this dress.  I already have the same Outlander scarf from a previous Torrid collection.  I already had some cute brown oxfords.  So I caved and ordered the dress.

I bought the dress in a size 4 because the collections tend to be a little smaller overall. This dress fit pretty perfect!  Even the bust area fit well, which is usually where I have an issue when I order up.  There was plenty of room for my hips and tummy without it being oversized or sloppy.  The fabric itself is a rayon spandex.  This particular blend does wrinkle easily.  It is soft and stretchy and comfortable to wear.  The body and skirted portion of the dress are lined with a white polyester fabric.  I still wore nude undergarments underneath, but I don't think anything showed through.


I love the three-quarter ruffle sleeves.  I think the ruffle adds a nice feminine touch to the look of the dress.  It's almost a softer version to Claire's, so I enjoy that.  The hem hit me just below the knee, which is a length that works well for me these days.  The waist of the dress does have sewn-in thin ties.  I tied them in the back, but I think it looks cute tied in the front as well.  I didn't have a belt that really worked with the look, but I recently purchased this one from Lane Bryant that I will be wearing when I cosplay Claire at Emerald City Comic Con in Seattle in March!

Next up is the Navy Bell Sleeve Hi-Lo Midi Dress.  I wasn't going to buy this one either, but then it went on a clearance and I grabbed it.  Mainly, I thought it would be an easy dress to wear for our summertime Renaissance Faires.  It's a style that I could make into more of a costume for a variety of looks.  I also bought this dress in a 4 because it is essentially the same as the above dress, but it is a bit oversized, particularly in the shoulders and bust.  I kept it because a smaller size was no longer available and, I figured, I could get it tailored if need be.  That said, I stalked the Torrid website and a size 3 finally popped back in stock, so I was able to get a smaller size for about $20.  I like the fit of that one much better, though I haven't had a chance to photograph it yet.


The rayon/nylon/spandex fabric is, again, very soft and stretchy and comfortable to wear.  This fabric is thicker and less prone to wrinkles than the above white dress.  There is no lining, but I do prefer to wear a slip with it.  It is full of those great feminine details - scoop neck, ruffle hem sleeves, princess seams, V-shape waist, and a high-low hem.  It also has pockets!!

I am looking forward to wearing it as more of a costume, but I thought I would add some simple accessories to wear it as an actual outfit out-and-about.  The necklace I am wearing is actually from the company Heathergems and is a souvenir I picked up on our trip to Scotland last year.  It is made of Scottish heather that is cleaned and dyed and pressed together to create unique designs.  I donned my retro-looking brown pumps and added my standing stones clutch to keep with the Outlander theme.
