I'm so excited to finally share this post with you!!

We bought our house and moved in back in 2013.  I was so grateful we found a place that met most of our list of wants and needs.  I had long been dreaming of one day having a house where I could have my own girly room to house my clothing and makeup and trinkets.  As renters, I did have a room for this stuff, but it was all piled around makeshift storage because we couldn't make my vision a reality.

I've previously shown you the process of painting the room in the pale pink and glittery fuchsia I chose for the walls.  And I've also walked you through the room all done up, in both picture and video form (with me acting like a silly goober. You should check it out for a laugh. haha).  A lot has changed since then.  As the blog grew, so did my closet and my need for more storage options and space.  (Yes, I totally need to clean things out now and have a big sale.)  After a couple years of searching for the right dresser for extra storage, we have finally gotten that ready and moved in.  You can check out the tutorial for painting the dresser here.  I spent all last week reorganizing the room so I could share this Dressing Room Remix with you. Enjoy!

(Just a side note: This was going to be a full-on tour of the room and every little detail, but there were so many pictures that I have to split this post in to two parts.  This post is a look at the room and an overview of it, complete with a 360 panorama view.  Later on I will have a post with all the little details.)

The room has been a bit of a mess for a while.  All my newly acquired, comfortable but cute shoes were all over the floor.  I still need to go through my clothing and shoes to clear out ones that no longer fit me or my lifestyle properly.  It just seemed like every little area was bursting at the seams and in need of reorganization.  And I'm one of those people that needs everything organized and in its place to ease my anxiety.  I was just frustrated that this room, my happy place and little sanctuary,  was getting a bit out of control.

Aside from moving the dresser in and overall reorganzing each space of the room, I changed the orientation of the rug and ottoman.  This change also seemed to improve the feel and flow of the room, making it look a bit bigger in the process.

To start, here is a look at the room before I started reorganizing:

As you walk into the room, I have a bookcase set up with decorative items, jewelry, and storage.  Bracelet and ring displays help my jewelry do double-duty as decorative pieces, bringing more sparkle to the room.  I can never have too many sparkles!  Both bookcases I have in the room were purchased from Wal-Mart, as were the plastic shoe containers.  I found complimentary fabric to my color scheme and stapled it to the back of the bookcase for some color and interest.  The shoe bins are kept organized with pictures of the inhabitants on the outside of the bin.  As you can see, I still have some work to do.

Looking at the entryway from inside the room, you can see my nail polish rack hung behind the door.  Scarves are neatly rolled into a hanging shoe organizer.  My From The Hip Hallmark collection chubby girls line the wall.  I received the second one down as a gift back in 1995 and ended up finding the rest through countless searches on eBay.

Continuing to look at the front of the room, you can see some artwork and necklaces along the wall.  The curtains are the Farrah Fretwork Curtains from Target.  I purchased two 84-inch panels and two  95-inch panels online and hemmed them a bit.  The white sheer curtains are from Amazon.  The curtains along the long wall are secured along the Umbra Glide Drapery Track System (no longer available online).  It has held up really well.  The tracks have been very sturdy.  I haven't had any issues with them coming out or getting stuck.  In the photo below, you can also see the sparkly fan pulls I added (no longer available online).  The Portis Hat and Coat Stand helps me lay out outfits and plan looks.

Looking into the actual closet of the room, I have purses, at-home capris, regular capris, jeans, and shoes.  The organizational system in the closet was already installed when we bought the place, so that was a nice help in giving me more storage area.  We had to prime and paint it, which took about sixteen hours total.  I used black and white shelf liner to keep the color theme going inside the closet as well.  In the left side of the closet, there are double hanging rods.  The top portion is home to my lingerie, while the bottom portion is where I hang my costumes.  The right side of the closet features all my dresses, maxi skirts, a few pairs of pants, and a kimono.  The rest of the closet acts as storage for all kinds of items like more shoes, suitcases, travel makeup, safety pins, belts, long-sleeved house shirts, etc.

Pulling the curtains back along the wardrobe wall, you will see the bulk of my clothing.  We used the PAX Wardrobe System from Ikea to plan out that area for maximum space usage.  Each area is organized by color.  The areas include graphic tees, solid tees, tanks and camis, sleeveless tops, shrugs, blouses, sweaters and hoodies, cardigans and vests, and skirts.  A Kullen dresser, also from Ikea, holds my panties, socks, and around-the-house clothes.  I found some polka dot reusable adhesive dots (meant for the wall) and placed them in a confetti design to add some color and fun to the dresser.  Shoe boxes line the top shelf. I was thrilled they perfectly fit into that empty space.  Also worth mentioning, I switched all my mismatched plastic hangers to velvet ones.  I mostly used black hangers (Costco usually has a large box for way cheaper than the Amazon price), but shrugs are on pink hangers while vests and cardigans are on turquoise hangers.  I also use pink velvet hangers for skirts.

Ah, my Precious!  The sparkly dresser keeps my bras, sexy panties, pajamas, workout pants, leggings, cozy socks, and more all organized and dust free.  The glittery surface was a great place for me to move some of my sparkly, decorative pieces.  I'm looking to add a Swarovski trim to the lamp when I find exactly what I am looking for.  This was also a prime time for me to use my necklace (similar) and earring displays as decoration too.

My husband's friend was giving away his Three-Shelf Cubby Storage Unit, so I snatched it up.  Big Lots, of all places, had pink fabric storage bins that perfectly fit this shelving unit and perfectly match my decor. Big Lots also has a similar cubby storage unit.  These bins hold extra decor, sunglasses, tiaras, ironing supplies, cleaning supplies, backstock of makeup, Ipsy bags, and odds and ends.  I'm always surprised at how much actually fits into the bins.

Looking to the vanity side, you will see my jewelry armoire at the edge of the bookcases.  I made display holders for brooches and photos back when I first got my own dressing room.  Thankfully, the pink, black, and white color scheme I chose is one I have been happy to stick with.  Finn has a little white bed in the room, in keeping with the theme.  He wants to be close to his mama.  The floral rug is from Target (no longer available) and the storage ottoman is an Overstock.com find (similar).

My lovely little playground!  Sean and I made the vanity table back in 2012 using pieces from Ikea.  I did a DIY tutorial post on that project, which is one of my most viewed posts of all time.  The Ekne Mirror is also an Ikea find.  Last year, I found a rub-on transfer at Craft Warehouse that says "be {YOU} tiful".  I thought it was a nice addition to my positive space.  The vanity table holds a majority of my makeup, though lip products and palettes are in the neighboring bookcase.  I've been collecting the artwork from all over the internet.  The thinner glitter frames were actually clearance finds at Michaels, while the thicker ones were recycled from previous decor and totally glittered up by Yours Truly.  My Martha Stewart glitter set came in handy!  I'll have more specific links and close-ups in my details post.  The gorgeous chair was an early Valentine's gift from Sean last year.  We stumbled upon it at Fred Meyer one day and just knew I had to have it.  My previous chair was a hard little stool from Ikea.

The neighboring bookcase is a hodgepodge of beautification items.  More fabric bins give me storage area for odds and ends.  Extra samples are organized on the top shelf by category.  The second shelf keeps hair accessories and my tweezing/eyebrow shaping tools.  Below that, we have my collection of lip products, kept neat using compartment displays I found on Amazon (large and small).  More bins and boxes hold makeup palettes, Kleenexes and tools, and odds and ends on the fourth shelf.

Sean put together a 360 panorama view of the dressing room for another fun look at the space.  You can move the image with your mouse.
Paint colors for the walls include:

Being someone who had to move around from state to state their whole childhood, as an adult I have this need to change the house around at least once a year.  I was getting really anxious and antsy, so changing the room up also helped scratch that weird itch I have.  Moving into this house was the 29th move of my life and I really don't want to do it again for a long, long time. (Ya know, until the castle in Scotland is ready. haha)  I'm so over-the-moon with the end result and very grateful that it is a room I can call my own.  Sean and I worked hard to make it the fun space it is.  It makes me so happy and I hope I was able to share some of that joy with you.  Of course, you are welcome to come play dress up with me any time.

Next time, I will have a complete look at all the close-ups and details!!
