"I can never wear a halter top."
That was a stupid self-inflicted rule I had for myself for...I don't know how long. I am sure someone told me my shoulders were too broad to wear that neckline, because that is always what I told myself. Now, I always tell y'all to JUST TRY THINGS ON - and I mean it. I can't very well preach it if I don't practice it. Part of the fun of having the blog, of loving fashion, of sharing with all of you, is the opportunity to try new things and push my boundaries.
I saw the Florence Flair Halter Top in Kiyonna's Summer Lookbook (sizes 10-32) and knew I needed to push my comfort zone and try it on. I was first drawn to the vibrant magenta hue, but the sexy neckline really intrigued me. Today's post is a review of this top, plus I style it four ways with an array of denim. Also, I found a new location to shoot some of the photos, which I am super excited about!
- As part of the Kiyonna Blogger Brigade, I was gifted the top in this post. All opinions are 100% my own. -
Look 1: Skinny Jeans + Nude Wedges
As stated above, despite thinking halter tops were a "no" for my body, I was so drawn to this top and became a little obsessed with it. Kiyonna sent it to me for review this month, and I immediately fell in love.
I am wearing this top in my regular size of 3X (22-24). It is possible I could have sized down to a 2X, but I like the more generously cut shape of the top afforded by getting my regular size. For reference, I am 5'9" and my measurements are 52/49/58. There was plenty of room in the tummy and hips, which I think gives me more styling options as well. Soft, stretchy knit fabric drapes and flows beautifully and provides an ease of movement. I adore this gorgeous, jewel-toned magenta too!! This color makes me so happy! This top is definitely great on hot summer nights, but can transition into ensembles for other seasons as well. Paired with a fancy skirt or tailored pant, it would be great for a holiday party, date night, or other important event.
The dramatic, sexy neckline crosses in front and back, but is also very comfortable to wear. Flutter sleeves and pleated details above the bust make for a very girly and sultry top. Light elastic at the top of the sleeves keeps them in place and makes them adjustable to your liking. I love that I didn't have to constantly pull them down. They didn't move up or shift as I moved around. I did have to wear a strapless bra with this top. My halter bra was cut too wide, but a convertible bra that can criss-cross like the top would also work well. The neckline is such a statement that I stayed away from accessorizing with a necklace and chose big statement earrings and bracelets instead. Because I am so used to wearing a necklace, this was also another fun push to get me to use pieces I don't wear often. I loved it!
The rounded hemline is shortest about upper-mid hip on me and lowest right above the tops of my thighs. I think this particular hemline is great because it elongates my legs and accentuates the curve of my hips, but also provides some tummy coverage.
The Florence Flair Halter Top also comes in navy. I think I am going to have to snatch that one up while I can! I received a ton of compliments each time I wore this top. It has quickly become my new favorite. It makes me feel romantic and sexy and feminine.
Because I was a little intimidated by the neckline but ended up loving it so, I wanted to style this top multiple ways to show you how amazingly versatile it can be. Denim is always on-trend, so I paired this halter with shorts, capris, skinny jeans, and a lovely chambray skirt. If you are a casual girl and love your comfortable ensembles like I do, you can utilize your existing denim wardrobe for simple looks that are big on style.

Sean and I had a lovely walk down by the lake before and after my photoshoot. I hope I get the chance to take some more photos here before the weather turns wet. Of course, we had to take a selfie.
