Video Blog - Dialect Experiment

Hope everyone has had a fun week!  I have been keeping busy staying up-to-date with all the NKOTB appearances since their album came out on Tuesday.  So exciting!

I am also really excited to show you this latest video.  It is a Dialect Experiment that I saw on The Plus Side of Me and, most recently, Happyness Magnet.  Both Rebecca and Rachel say things a bit differently than I do, so I thought this would be really fun to participate in.

Right before filming it, I decided to pull my husband into it as well.  We are both from different parts of the country, so I thought it would be interesting to compare our dialects.  The result was really fun for us and I hope you enjoy the video!

Say these words:
Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:
  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  •  What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
  •  What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
  •  What do you call gym shoes?
  •  What do you say to address a group of people?
  •  What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
  •  What do you call your grandparents?
  •  What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
  •  What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
  •  What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

  2. It's weird...I grew up in Texas, but have Yankee parents...so my pronunciations are sort of a cross between you & Sean. If I can figure out a camera of some sort, I may get bored and post one of these. My Kindle has a camera...I suppose that would involve figuring out how to use it and finding some way to prop it up so it's not just photographing my double chin....

  3. This was really good. I normally avoid vlog posts but after watching rachels post I'm really interested in how people speak it was good seeing you both say the words. I'm from the UK and lean more towards your hubby's way of speaking and you will really hate how I say a lot of these words. I may do one myself one day

    1. I typically find the UK accents very charming. I would LOVE to hear how you say things! I hope you do a video! I joke about hating certain words, but I really do find it interesting. :-)

  5. haha I would love to see you do a video! When I do Facetime, I have to hold my iPad slightly above my head and down to avoid the unflattering "from below" angle. My arms get tired, but I suffer through it. lol
