Neighborhood Bunny Watch: Meet Gandalf, Cookie, Peanut Butter, & Merlin

An activity that has brought me immense joy these past few years is watching the wildlife in my backyard.  There are rabbits, squirrels, many birds, and the occasional raccoon or possum.  I set up an area of bird baths I call the "Community Center" to create a respite and sanctuary for all the animals passing through.  Sean and I have taken many photos of our animal friends, so I am still processing and organizing those to show you.

Today I want to introduce you to more of the Magic Bunny crew! ✨🐰✨  Magic Bunnies are very rare, and extremely rare to see in my yard, but I have been spying them more often as I take afternoon walks.  These are the first decent (not fuzzy photos from my camera phone) photos I have gotten of these special creatures!  Hopefully, there will be more to come.

Community Center Profiles:

The "Magic Bunnies" is a crew of (I'm assuming) former domestic bunnies turned wild, or the children of those bunnies.  I call this gang of bunnies "Magic Bunnies" mainly because they look so different, and it feels friggin' magical when you stumble upon one.  They have been rare to see (lending to their magic).  The rest of the crew include a tan bunny I named Chip (after my childhood guinea pig of the same color), a totally white one I call Ghost Bunny (because he spooked me one night running across the road and looked like a little ghost), the bunnies I'm introducing you to today - Gandalf, Merlin, Peanut Butter, and Cookie - plus I discovered two more while I was at the park the other day!!

Gandalf the Grey got the name because of that hairdo primarily. He looks so fun and wise.  Gandalf has a large range of neighborhood he covers, based on the yards I have seen him in.  Most recently, he's been spotted with our newest Magic Bunny discovery, Merlin.  Gandalf seems to be okay with our presence.  He'll make eye contact and just keep eating.  He's just cool like that.

Cookie is shy and rare to see hanging about.  Mostly, Cookie hangs out with Peanut Butter.  I've hardly ever seen them separate.  Cookie got her name when we spotted her as we were coming home late one night very hungry.  We only had food names on our minds.  It just stuck.  She's so beautiful and just glows.

Peanut Butter doesn't give two effs!  He will just sit there as you walk by.  I love his warm coloring.  I can't give you much more information on PB because I rarely get to see him.

Our newest Magic Bunny is Merlin!  We initially thought Merlin was PB, but they are not the same.  Merlin got his or her name because they were hanging out with Gandalf and some crows.  I thought it looked like a wizard meeting.  Merlin obviously loves carrots and other treats, but boy is he skittish!
