Ipsy Bag: February 2014

I've been subscribed to Ipsy since June 2013 when I signed up on a recommendation from my aunt.  Being such a product/makeup/beauty junkie, I adore obtaining these bags and trying all the products.  Some are new to me and some are not.  Some are from brands I trust, while some come from brands I have never heard of before.  Either way, I enjoy trying products out and giving my opinion on them.

Ipsy is a monthly box subscription service ($10 a month) that sends you about five sample and/or full-size products that could be makeup, skin care, hair care, or nail care.  Based on your answers to a short Beauty Quiz, you are sent the best products for you geared towards your skin tone, hair color, eye color, and other beauty concerns.  You earn points by reviewing the products and those points can be redeemed for selected items.

This month's theme was "The Look of Love".

Ipsy February 2014 - POP Beauty Plump Pout Gloss in Peony Petal, Zoya Nail Polish in Odette, Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Starshine, First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleasner with Red Clay, Jesse's Girl 9 Pan Eyeshadow Compact

POP Beauty Plump Pout Mini in Peony Petal - First, the color is a beautiful deep rosy pink.  The texture is a creamy, thicker consistency that doesn't feel overly sticky.  On the lips it feels more like a NYX butter gloss than a MAC gloss.  It lasted a few hours on me, while I was drinking coffee.  The pigmentation is pretty good, but if you blot it at all the color seems to fade a lot so you are just left with shine.  The one I received is .14 oz, but I don't know what size a full tube is.  They retail for $16 for the full-size.  Overall, I like this gloss.  I think it is the first thing from this brand I have enjoyed. (Swatched below)

Zoya Nail Polish in Odette - I received a full-size bottle of this nail polish and love it.  It is a great spring color that is not a pastel.  The website describes it as a "sultry orchid maroon cream".  I would probably describe it as a purple mauve.  It is a cream, so while it doesn't have sparkle, it isn't completely matte - just a well-pigmented solid color.  I had no issues with streaks; and it applied well in one coat.  It retails at $9 for .5 fl oz.

Mally Beauty Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner in Starshine - I am always wary of eyeliners because I have such an issue with them moving around, fading, or creasing on me.  I pretty much stick with Urban Decay or Stila Waterproof liners.  I was excited this one was "waterproof", but that doesn't always mean they will perform well on me.  This one, however, is great!  It stays in place.  It did not budge on me all day long, so I was really impressed.  The color I received is Starshine which is a shiny silver.  This eyeliner retails for $15 for .04 oz. First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Deep Cleanser with Red Clay -Received this facial cleanser in a 1 oz tube.  It is a light, gel texture with a subtle rosemary scent.  (It contains rosemary leaf oil.)  This cleanser is ideal for oily/combination or problem-prone skin.  I love the rosemary scent and the lighter texture.  It makes my skin feel smooth and soft.  I mix in a bit of baking soda for exfoliation.  At $24 for 4.7 oz I feel like it is a bit spendy, but I appreciate that it contains no parabens or colorants.  I would definitely use this again, but only if I could get it on sale.

Jesse's Girl 9 Pan EyeShadow Compact in Tickled Pink - This palette comes with nine shades that range from a pale pinky-peach to a purple-brown color.  Only four of the shades offered any real color; the rest are pretty much a waste.  These are powdery, not-very-well-pigmented shadows.  The compact retails for $3.99.  I think this would be good for young girls playing dress-up or maybe someone who is just starting to use makeup or figure it out.  It is cheap enough to play with and not worry too much about.  I would not buy this for myself.
