A little over a week ago, Sean and I decided to go on a little adventure to the
Wooden Shoe Tulip Festival in Woodburn, Oregon. I really needed to be rehearsing for my news segment, but I also really wanted to get out of the house. The weather was surprisingly beautiful, so we packed up Finn and Dobby and headed out.
Today's post is a photo-heavy journal with pictures from our little evening out. I'm definitely happy we were able to stay until sunset to enjoy the last drops of sunlight dancing among the tulips.
Woodburn is about an hour or so away, so I rehearsed my news segment talking points in the car. The boys did surprisingly well on the trip. Finn wasn't spazzing out and panting from the car ride, and he barely snapped at his brother. Dobby is an adventurer at heart. He likes to look out the window then lays down to sleep when he gets bored.
Because the weather was nice and it was peak tulip time, the line to get to the farm was extremely long. We were in a line of traffic along the rural roads for an hour before we made it to the gate. We would have only had about an hour to walk around the farm once we arrived, so I was thrilled when they said people could stay until sunset. The cost was only $5 per person, or $20 for a carload. The first parking lot was close to the vendors and food, which we didn't plan on checking out at all. We parked at the farther parking lot nearest the hay ride pick-up area. There was an ample amount of portable potties, which we also did not use.
It was a really dry day and cars kicked up dust non-stop. I was really glad I chose to wear something suitable to get dirty because, by the end of the evening, I was covered in dog hair, road dust, and dusty dog paw prints. Still, I'm really glad we were able to bring the boys and get them out on a little walk as well. The tulips were all so beautiful in their ribbons of color. Mt. Hood was visible off in the distance. Sean and I walked the perimeter at first, before making our way down along the length of the tulip field. There were so many people, something I am not super fond of, so we tried to keep to less populated areas. We had a fun evening and took lots of photos. I would definitely go back and do it again next year.

Dobby's car-riding style is straight chillin'. |
|
Finn's car-riding style is high alert! (usually...) |
|
There will be way more photos of Dobby because he is more still and also does what he is told the best. |
|
If I get a good photo of Finn either I got lucky, he was hungry and paid attention to the treat, or he is tired. Generally, he turns away as soon as I get the camera out. |
|
Dobby was confused by the size of the creature that looked like him. |
|
This is Finn a majority of the time, hence fewer photos. He does love sniffing flowers though. He stops to sniff flowers during every walk. |
|
One of my absolute favorite flower photos from the evening. |
|
Dobby contemplating country life. |
|
My other favorite flower photo from the evening. |

I tried to get creative with looking through the bench to the flowers. And pink and yellow were my wedding colors, so I am always obsessed with the combination. |
Do you have a local tulip fest near you? Have you been?
What is your favorite flower?
(Mine is a peony. But have you seen peony tulips? They look JUST like peonies!!)
