Macy's Fall Fashion Show with Emme - Recap

Last Thursday, I attended the Fall Fashion event at Macy's Clackamas Town Center in Portland.  It was a really entertaining show with lots of trends and style options, hosted by Emme.  The runway and chairs were set up right outside of Macy's in the mall itself.  There was music playing as people gathered to await the show.

When I took my seat, I was greeted with a gold cosmetic bag featuring the Macy's logo with a few Lancome samples inside.  There was also a piece of paper letting us know about a website where we could post questions for Emme and answer poll questions that would happen throughout the show.

It wasn't too long before Emme appeared on the stage, wearing an Anne Klein dress that fit her body so amazingly.  And those shoes!  Emme was a lively presence on stage as she talked about fashion.  She said that having a thirteen-year-old daughter really pushed her to get back out and reignite the discussion on diversity in fashion.  She charged everyone to "Be brave and be bold".

"Show your arms!" Emme said with encouragement.  Don't let sleeve options deter you from trying/wearing/rocking something you want to wear.  "Let other people deal with it" - a lesson I need to keep reminding myself.  Emme also reminded everyone to try things on no matter what!!  Even if you think it looks shapeless on a hanger, instead of immediately writing it off - TRY IT ON!  This is advice I give to my friends all the time.  I cannot tell you how many times I have disliked something on the hanger only to try it on and love it.  Try things on no matter what.

After some encouraging words and advice from Emme, the show began.  The basic trends showcased included soft pants, moto styles, skirts, vests and cardigans, and dresses.  Within these outfits, so many other trends emerged: mixing prints, patterned tights, booties, peep-toe heels and booties, ankle strap heels, lots of skinny pants and ponte knit, studded details, and interesting accessories.

I have included photos of every outfit below, as well as links to everything I could find on Macy's website after painstakingly combing through all the departments involved.  I also tried on a few pieces and will feature those in a separate blog post this week.

  • This jacket is a knit material and really, really cute in person.  It is longer than most blazers and moto jackets and has the mixed prints going on with a gold zipper.

  • These are ponte knit pants, a great option instead of a jean. They have stretch and a nice weight that will keep you really comfortable while still providing structure and a put together look.

  • Emme supplied that a denim jacket is an important staple of any woman's wardrobe.  Have them in multiple colors if at all possible!

Trend: Vests and Cardigans

  • This vest was so soft; you just wanted to keep petting it.  It has a pretty light marbling affect in person.

  • This cardigan is found in the straight size department, which brings up another tip Emme mentioned.  Don't be afraid to browse other departments for things that might work for you.  Not all brands and sizes are made alike.  Don't let the number on the tag keep you from finding the potential of a piece.  As far as I've seen, a lot of straight size departments can go up to an XL or XXL, which usually translates to a 16/18 and sometimes up to a 20.  More roomy styles will obviously have more room.  So keep that in mind.

  • These shoes!!  They were so incredibly sparkly on the runway and had everyone ooohing and aaahing.  I kind of think they stole the show.  They come in three different colors and I seriously would love to be able to walk on thin heels if only for these shoes!

After the show, everyone made their way to the Women's department for some shopping!  Refreshments, like the delightful chocolate cheesecakes below, were served as people mingled and gathered items to try on.  My friend Mary Jo joined me for the event, so we had an amazing time chatting and shopping together.  I also met some other fantastic ladies during the event, like Toni of The Love Hanger and M'chel Bauxal. There was quite a long line for the dressing room, but from all the laughter I could tell all the ladies were having a great time.  Emme was helping people shop for looks and giving them advice on silhouettes and pieces that were perfect for them.

I stayed later to try stuff on and caught Emme in action doing her own shopping.  She was incredibly nice and just gorgeous in person.  Most of the items she had heaped up in her arms were versatile black pieces.  She joked, "Can you tell I live in New York?"

If you have the opportunity to attend an event like this at your local mall or department store, I highly recommend it!  It was a fabulous evening!

What were your favorite looks from the show?  What trend are you most looking forward to incorporating into your wardrobe?

  1. The moto vests, printed pants, and skirts are good...but I will not be changing my opinion regarding peep toe boots being dumb. If it's cold enough for boots, they should have toes; plus, I think socks with open toed shoes are tacky. Granted, those booties with tights aren't as bad as grandma in her support hose and sandals, but IT'S A FINE LINE.

I do like the lace-up boots and shoes, though. I had a pair or two of lace-up heeled oxfords in the early 2000s, and I wore the crap out of them.

  2. I love the outfit and it is nice to see another lady that still wears slips. I was beginning to think I might be the only one.

  3. Thanks so much for this recap, Hailey! It looks like an amazing event! I just went to a fall fashion event at our local mall, and I loved the presentation on new fall trends and the variety of pieces the stylist pulled to show us.

I've really liked the moto jacket trend since last fall, and I love that they're coming in knits and sweater styles now too. Who would think a sweater could be so badass? I'm not really sure how to approach the soft pant trend. I just don't think it's for me. I think they look rad with moto jackets and heeled booties, but that's just not my style. I'm trying to imagine me wearing them with a cardigan and ballet flats, and it's just a sad image.

I really like the printed skater skirt from American Rag. And I'm also in love with all of the shoes. Those blinged out booties? Hello! And the leopard print heels are pretty hot, too.

It was fun looking through these new fall trends. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

  4. I LOVE those oxfords. I keep wanting to buy some. They were fantastic-looking in person too. I have never been a fan of peep toe booties. Like you, I think it doesn't make sense. But for the sake of the fashion show, I enjoyed their use with various looks and I thought a few of them looked really cool and sexy with certain outfits they were paired with. The ones I would actually want to wear though, were those sparkly ones. I would totally make an exception for those. Wearing them with tights looked good in person, but I think it only works when it is black on black. Also, the Calvin Klein Moto Boots looked awesome in person too!

  5. I am glad you enjoyed the recap! It was a labor of love finding all those product links. I tell ya...
I keep waiting for the weather to cool down just a little so I can wear my LB moto vest. I still have to work out a few wrinkles though, so we shall see how that goes. The knit and sweater moto jackets were fantastic! It is also nice because they are easier to wear and aren't (for me) as warm and impractical. The soft pants....I tried some on and can hopefully get that post out today. I thought they looked great on the models and I love how they were styled, I I also feel that it just isn't me, or isn't a look for me. I do love all the patterns and colors though.

The blinged out booties are SO PRETTY! I know everyone was drooling over them. Everyone I talked to commented on how much they loved those shoes. I was drawn to a lot of the shoes as well.

  6. We were raised right! lol I feel naked without a slip. It is not proper for the outline of your body to be seen through your clothes. I don't like it. I did end up finding a black slip on Lane Bryant's website that is the perfect length for dresses like this.

  7. That look with the camo skinnies & lace top with a southwestern sweater jacket is fabulous. I love the mix of color, texture, and pattern.

Thank you for showing those soft pants looks because I recently got a pair but have not styled them yet. I especially like them with heels and a fitted jacket.
