I've been focusing on "just taking the picture" and not letting my perfectionist tendencies get in the way. We've had unending days of rain and wind and, of course, I've barely left the house. Even when we went over to my mother-in-law's for Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, I wore pajamas and a hoodie. It was just the three of us and Dobby and Finn, so I was covered in dog hair in a couple of minutes anyway.
The day after Christmas though, we actually went to a friend's house to visit and play card games. These friends have been part of our little group of people we come into contact with since Quarantine started, and even that has been a rarity. It was a much needed night of laughing and wine (like, too much wine because I had a major hangover).
I took the opportunity to get dressed up in new clothes, blow out my hair, and wear purple eyeshadow to go with my whole look - baby wing and all! I felt pretty and I think this is a great, comfy casual look that feels thought out but isn't fussy.

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 52/49/58.
This outfit really started with inspiration from my purple hair. I'm in a place mentally where I want my hair to be purple or very blonde. When I have purple hair, I feel like a badass. I give less fucks about what people think of me and just feel more free to be me. It's a nice feeling, but purple hair requires a lot of upkeep even when I'm using a colored conditioner to color it. But I love to invoke the feeling purple hair gives me daily now. Purple-haired Hailey is always there and I need to do better at remembering that.
So purple has become a great power color for me.
I saw this Curved High-Low Pullover Sweater on Lane Bryant's website and was so drawn to the color! I feel like so many plus-size clothes have come in more muted tones lately, so this purple got me excited. I tend to not purchase sweaters, or I buy one every few years, because a lot of them can be too stifling for me, and sometimes they can be hard to take care of (laying flat to dry, pulling, pilling, etc.). While this purple number isn't the softest sweater in the world, it isn't scratchy and it isn't too thick.
The curved hem and lined detail there add some interest and give it a little more shape. I'm wearing a 22/24 and find it to be rather generous in the tummy and hips compared to my expectations. The sleeves are also a great length for me.
I combined the sweater with the Grey Herringbone Drawstring Pull-On Trouser I found from Torrid. Like so many of us, I have gained a little weight during Quarantine and not all of my jeans fit comfortably at the moment. Plus, we've lived at home practically 24/7 for almost a year now. Comfort is just where it's at! I was looking for jogger-like pants that maybe looked a little less athleisure for dressier times. These pants have a great herringbone pattern, elastic and drawstring waist, and are stretchy and comfy. Sold.
And unfortunately, they are almost sold out online. But if they bring them back, get some! I ordered my usual size 3 and wondered if I was making the right choice. A review said they stretched out a little and sizing up was a bad idea. But, especially after gaining some weight, I was worried they would initially be a bit snug in butt/tummy/thighs. They worked out great though! They aren't even skin tight at a 3. They do stretch out a little bit, though I've only worn them twice thus far, but it isn't to a higher degree that looks sloppy. No need to size up for sure, though.
Accessories include glittery star slip-on sneakers, my Nature's Twist amethyst mountain necklace, Holographic Moon Earrings because they are big and fab, and my new emerald and purple copper rings. (Lately, I've been purchasing jewelry that contains stones and natural elements, or a celestial theme. Maybe I'm just trying to honor the newly welcomed witchy side of myself...)
I also donned my new purple stole from Heritage of Scotland. They had a big sale back in August, so I bought a few items for Sean and I. Fed-Ex lost my package but never told me about it. There was a whole back and forth with them and then Heritage of Scotland because Fed-Ex said Heritage knew that the package "arrived empty", but Heritage said they never heard from Fed-Ex and that they know it left their warehouse full of my order. Anyway, roughly three months after I placed my order, I finally got my stuff! Heritage of Scotland's customer service was really great and I am very appreciative.
