What I Wore: Nic + Zoe My Darling Jacket

After radiation, I signed back up for Gwynnie Bee and have been trying as many new brands and styles as I can. It is fun to play dress up and try things I normally wouldn't have the opportunity to try.  At first I wasn't sure how to style this jacket, but I was really happy with the end result.

The brand, Nic + Zoe, is totally new to me.  I have since found out that Nordstrom carries this brand, which explains why I never knew about them.  My Nordies has a practically non-existent Plus selection. On the Gwynnie Bee model, this jacket looked very fitted and more cropped in length.  I went ahead and got it in a 3X, though I think I should have sized down.  The jacket was oversized on me, bordering on too large, but I was really drawn to the comfy factor and thought it had great potential.

The material isn't too thick.  It acts more as a cardigan than a blazer per se.  It is soft, cozy, and easy to wear.  The long sleeves can be pushed up and stay in place rather well. I really liked the piping features at first, especially in the back and on the hips.  But the thing that really bothered me about this jacket was the shoulder/lapel piping.  Granted, I think it looks great in the photos, but in person it made my shoulders look wider and seemed a bit off.  I just don't think it worked for me personally.

Because of the oversized fit and off piping, I was kind of thrown as to how to style it.  I am grateful for my clothing playground, so I just started playing.  I went with the floral and striped top because it has a lot of navy in it like the jacket.  More fitted skinny jeans balanced out the larger jacket, while the purple loafers tied in to the florals and seemed to fit with the blazer-like qualities of the jacket.

If you have the opportunity to try this jacket, I recommend sizing down for a less over-sized look, but be advised that the piping makes broad shoulders seem more broad.

  1. This is a fun new look for you! It feels very smart and scholarly with the blazer-sweater and loafers. You look ready for the library or coffee shop. Looks super cozy! I am horrible at dressing myself like this. It's pretty but polished, simple but styled. I tend to go overboard. What I think I like most is that you paired the humbler pieces with the colorful floral tank. It keeps the look fresh and feminine. Really inspiring pairings here, Hailey!

  2. You have such a great way with words! I need to work on that.

Thank you very much! As I rummaged through my closet, this outfit came together very organically. I had a picture in my head, or maybe a feeling, that I wanted the outfit to convey. I tried a few options that didn't pan out. The addition of the floral tank was me craving color and interest in a rather boring look. :-) And I love these shoes but I need to add one of those heel pads in the back to keep them from slipping off. I really want to wear them more often.
