Today's post is part of my Trying New Things series, but it's also an outfit/style post and boyband-related. We are covering a lot of ground in a short distance!
"Hailey", you might say, "Why in the world is this considered 'new' to you when you have met Nick Carter and worn clothes before?"

Well, friend, I'm about to answer that question...

First, let's discuss the outfit!
I bought this dress last spring with the intention of wearing it for my birthday in May of last year. Summer came to us late though. It was still way too cold on my birthday to get away with this look. So when this Nick Carter event came up, I knew exactly what I was going to wear.
The dress is a knit midi dress that's so easy to throw on and go. I absolutely loved the color combo with the green crocheted top and ended up buying a couple other ruched tops like this to go over dresses. It's a great way to make a look more interesting without adding extra heavy layers. Both the top and dress are from Torrid, the dress being a size 3 (22/24) and the top being a 4 (26/28). I like having some extra room in the top so that I can layer, but the ruching detail can be made lower or higher. This detail allows the option to customize the proportion and look of the top.
I added some matchy-matchy and metallic accessories, as I do, and TA-DA! Ready to meet Nick Carter! (That evening, I also wore this outfit to a class where I made my own smoke-cleansing wands out of fresh herbs!)

The biggest hurdle for me was just being around people again. After two and a half years of quarantining and being extra careful, I finally decided to go out and have fun in a crowd back in June 2022 when I went to the New Kids On The Block concert. I wore a mask a majority of the time and took my mask off once I got to my front-row seat on the stage. That seemed safe enough. But the very next day, I knew something was off. It wasn't until almost a week later that I tested positive for Covid. And I was f*cking pissed off.
Having Covid was not easy for me. Even though I was double vaccinated, I couldn't breathe out of my nose for weeks. I coughed hard for days and had the most violent sneezes that left me feeling like I got hit by a truck. I was incredibly tired for months after (on top of my no-thyroid tired). It took me two months to even start feeling like myself again, which was about when I decided to let loose and go to this Nick Meet and Greet. I wanted to look cute in my photo and also decided not to wear a mask. (I have also noticed that people treat me a LOT nicer when they can see my smile.)
Instead of bringing along a Backstreet friend or my husband, I went alone. Mostly, this was because the ticket was pretty expensive, but I've been used to having someone with me for events so this felt a little different. It was a hot day in August, which I don't tend to be outside for because I'm incredibly intolerant of the heat and my skin is very sensitive to the sun. (As I'm writing this, I understand I am a picky bitch that is set her ways, but I also have genuine issues that I have to address every time I leave the house.) But I felt like Nick was worth sweating for and I was prepared to blot and shield myself to the best of my ability. Thankfully, the hour-long wait outside was in the shade a majority of the time.
The event was incredibly fun and I'm glad I pushed myself to go! Nick was kind and lovely and seemed to remember me from previous engagements. After our brief encounter and photo, I picked up some food and a beverage from the buffet and found a spot to wait for the show. It was standing-room only by the time I made it inside, so it was hard to eat while also balancing a plate and holding a drink. I managed to wriggle into an opening in people and sweetly asked a lady if I could set my drink down on the bar while I ate.
The crowd was a lot more varied than I expected, which was actually pretty refreshing. They seemed like a lively bunch. The people that I interacted with were all incredibly nice and friendly, which made the event that much better. Nick ended up playing guitar and singing for a bit, answering a few questions in a short Q&A session. You know, it always goes by so, so fast, but I left feeling elated!
Were you able to catch Nick or the Backstreet Boys in your local area?
