After making my initial moon wreath when I worked with Sola Wood Flowers, I have been wanting to get back into making some with different color schemes and themes in mind.  More recently, I've been able to make some as gifts for friends, so I thought it would be fun to share now that they've arrived in their new homes.

You can check out the tutorial in video and blog post form.  I'd love to see what you make!

First up is a beach-themed wreath for my friend Jennifer!  Her love of Carolina beaches and the turquoise in her home decor inspired me.  I have a small supply of wood flowers that I stocked up on during big sales, as well as a bin of various faux flowers, leaves, and other odds and ends that I used for this project.

I added beads that I already had, twisting them into clusters of sparkle and color, shells, and starfish.  The pack of ribbons is from Michaels.  They've been offering packs of ribbon remnants in themed bundles as of late, which makes making these wreaths a lot easier.  The driftwood pieces were also a purchase for this, but I otherwise had lots of fun getting creative with what I already owned.

Jennifer has been my friend since 5th grade, so it felt really special to be able to make something for her that was also so inspired by her.  (Shipping a massive moon wreath 3,000 miles, on the other hand, ended up being pretty difficult.)

The next moon wreath I finished was a holiday gift for my hairstylist friend Tiffany, who recently opened her very own salon. It is hard for me to do neutral anything because I tend to lean toward color and sparkle a lot.  Inspired by Tiffany's neutral salon decor with pops of black and natural textures and wood elements, I really had to push myself to keep a neutral palette.  I ended up adding the warm oranges to liven it up, mimicking some of the paint colors used in the salon.

This time I pulled every element from things I already have stocked in my crafting trove.  Wood flowers, paper flowers, pinecones, faux berries and leaves, wood slices, and feathers make up a majority of the wreath.  I loved adding those small textures into the mix!  I also made sure to add some tasteful glitter as my signature.

The ribbons used were a mix of pieces from other bundles and rolls of ribbon I already owned.  There is also faux eucalyptus, faux deer fern, and little paper butterflies dancing about.  This moon wreath is smaller than the other two and definitely a bit more manageable as a project.  I had a blast pushing myself out of my colorful comfort zone, and loved seeing Tiffany's face when she opened the gift!
