Sometimes I'll just see something online and know I HAVE to have it!  That's how I felt about the Her Universe Disney Jasmine Purple Maxi Dress from Torrid's Aladdin collection.  Torrid posted it on their Instagram before it was even on the website.  It was so gorgeous, and I knew I needed it.

I stalked the website day and night for almost a week before the dress was finally added to online stock.  I snatched it up immediately!  It is very beautiful in person, so I am happy I finally get to share it with you!






I am wearing the Jasmine Maxi in a size 3, which is Torrid's size 22/24.  I also am wearing the regular length, versus short, and find it is still a little short on me for a maxi dress.  While the fit is pretty spot on, there are still pros and cons to the fit that I want to point out.  The purple rayon fabric is soft and lightweight and moves beautifully. The gold print is incredibly shiny and gorgeous in person.  If you don't like to stand out, this is not the dress for you.  I wore it to the Curvy Chic Closet fashion show and got tons of compliments on it just walking to my seat.


I love the v-neck, the mix of fabrics and textures, and the flutter sleeves also.  These are all elements that give it that something extra.  I also feel like it is very well-made. The fabric covered buttons are secured with little elastic loops to help the dress fit better and not pucker.  This is a very helpful design element because there is absolutely no stretch.  In fact, the lace waist area is very stiff and does not have any give to it.  This is a bit of an issue for me because it is fitted in this portion of the top.  I could have sized up, but the bust would probably be too large on me.  The empire waist is so fitted and the lace is stiff enough that I would actually recommend sizing up unless you are much smaller on top than bottom.  Even as a pear shape myself, I still would have probably been more comfortable sizing up.

When I wore this dress to the fashion show, I did not wear shapewear.  I had a long day of events that day and had to change clothes for the show in the parking garage of an event center before rushing off to said fashion show.  I did not have the facilities to shimmy into my shapewear.  My tummy line definitely did show, which doesn't make me completely comfortable, but I pushed it out of my head and enjoyed the event.  In shooting the dress for these photos, I definitely wore my shapewear and felt more confident and comfortable in the way the dress fit then.

And I will add, the Shape By Cacique body suit shapewear is fantastic.  It does not dig into my legs like my Spanx body suit.  It feels very supportive and does its job, but is also pretty comfortable.  I appreciate the straps and the fact I can still wear my regular bra.  It also doesn't hook to my bra like my Spanx.

I accessorized with sparkling golden wedges, gold bracelets, and big gold earrings with a similar pattern.  I didn't feel like it was costumey, but just felt particularly on theme.  I have yet to see the new Aladdin movie.  Have you?  I want to know what you think!
