What I Wore: Teal Rose

A few days before Halloween and we were having insanely beautiful weather for this time of year.  By that time every year it is usually raining and gross.  This post's outfit photos were taken in my backyard for a change!

I absolutely love the color of this dress, which is what drew me to it in the first place.  After reading some of the reviews online, I decided to get it during a Torrid sale and am happy I did!  I need more dresses I can wear with my leggings and boots for fall and winter.  This kind of outfit is so comfortable (and cute) to wear during these colder months.  I can't get enough!

The material is comfortable and stretchy and not too thick.  The 3/4-length sleeves fit my arms very well, while the length was just above the knee.  I wear a B-cup and found the bust to fit perfectly.  If you have larger breasts than I, you may or may not have issues with the more fitted bust area.  Also, this dress has pockets!  For reference, I am 5'9" and am wearing a Torrid size 4.

  1. Cute! I love the necklace with it! I've been struggling with finding dresses/tunics that are the appropriate length to wear with leggings. I got two tunics today in Evans's flash sale so fingers crossed that I'll get to pull a similar look to this soon :)

    1. *fingers crossed*. It is hard to find the right length for me too. Tunics are usually too short to o with leggings and dresses are usually too long. I am asking for a sewing machine for Christmas so I can remedy some of those issues.

  2. Tights. Boots. Turtlenecks (both t-shirt and sweater material). Scarves. Gloves. And I guess a frigging coat, even though I HATE THEM. Outerwear is dumb. I need to get a new coat this winter...mine is a little shorter than I would like, and also, I'm tired of it. (Advice for pet owners: gray coats are the best thing ever for hiding stray bits of fluff. Black coats are the devil and the dry cleaner will charge you a LOT when you accidentally don't hang it up and then your white fluffy cat sleeps on it and you don't have the heart to move her because she looks all cozy. Charcoal gray -- the kind of heathered-looking kind -- is awesome.)

I love that dress Hailey...now you're making me want to shop again. You are a bad influence ;P

  3. Black clothing is definitely the devil when pets are involved. I don't think my dogs shed anywhere near as much as cats shed, but I still have to sticky roll my black items before leaving the house. lol

I forgot to mention this dress is ON SALE right now! $36.98 instead of $54.50. That is about 32% off.

  4. Look at you donning yet ANOTHER floral print! Glad you're finding ones you like! This one is really subdued, and the blue is such a surprising color choice for roses. I love how you have it styled like a tunic. The black leggings and boots don't detract from the dress at all and still give you the added coverage and warmth for the winter months.

I'm not sure what my essential cold weather pieces are. I don't have the disposable income to think about building my closet too much right now...I do love tunics and oversize sweaters with leggings or destroyed jeans, but I don't have any of those pieces and would therefore have to go out and buy them all new. I'm also loving all the moto jackets, though I will have one of those coming for Christmas. A pink one! How practical, right?

So for another winter, I'll probably don my signature dresses, cardigans, and tights while adding a few pieces here and there. I just started working at an Anthropologie, so I'm sure I won't be able to help myself to some new pieces. I've been on such a dress kick for the last year or so, that I'm ready to start building up my separates wardrobe again.

  5. What a scary several weeks you've had, but you have such a great attitude about it, and I think that's really important in moving forward. I'm glad you listened to your body, researched, and pushed through the painful process until your fears were confirmed. That takes a lot of courage, and I understand why denial and procrastination can be appealing in these situations, but you did the right thing, even though I think it was the harder thing.

I'll definitely be thinking about you and cheering you on!

  6. I've been reading your blog for a while. I'm so sorry with what you're dealing with... My aunt was diagnosed with thyroid cancer many years ago. She was treated and has remained in remission for quite a long time now. You and your husband are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

  7. Big *Hugs* hon. I know this can't have been easy to write, let alone experience. I'm sure you're going to kick this cancer and, if you ever need an extra place to vent, well, you know where I am :)

As to the dishes, regardless of where we are in our lives, they're always going to pile up. We should protest. During times of high stress they should wash themselves.

  8. Thank you, Crystal. It is so wonderful to hear about all the people who have been through this and are living happily and doing so well. It makes me feel a ton better. I appreciate your prayers and thank you so much for reading the blog as well.

  9. lol I totally boycotted dishes. I did manage to eventually put some dirty ones in the dishwasher and run it. Then Sean washed some of the bigger items while I made a dish for Turkey Day. The sink looks much better now.

Thanks for offering your ear. I appreciate it and I am glad to have you cheering me on. HUGS!!

  10. Oh my gosh, thank you so much. I read your experience and it helps me so much knowing what to expect. I feel more secure when I have an idea about what is going to happen. I like to be as prepared as I can be. I'm going to send this link to my husband too so he has a better idea about things as well. I really, really appreciate you sharing this with me. Thank you so much.

  11. Thank you so much, Liz. I appreciate all the positive energy! It has definitely been a scary process because I am terrified of doctors, hospitals, needles, blood...on top of everything else. There has been a lot of pushing through personal boundaries thus far. I have to stay hopped up on my herbal anti-anxiety meds. lol

  12. Oh, I saw a pink moto jacket on someone the other day and about fell over. It was so beautiful!!

Oooh an Anthro job! How exciting!! If I worked somewhere I super loved, my money would be all gone. I was just talking to a Lane Bryant employee about that the other day. I have been on a dress kick and I just love when I can wear them with my leggings and boots. I bought some brown boots from Avenue last weekend and am so excited to get them in the mail!!

  13. Goodness. I missed this, and I clicked in today and saw your latest post and then went here. I'm sorry you're having to go through this. Even more sorry that the professionals lack the compassion to share your urgency and desire to get answers. I hope that you are working with better people than this now. I am so glad to hear, though, that you are advocating for your own health and demanding to be seen and heard. I'm sending love and well wishes to you!
