S2 Ep2: Mini-episode: Hack My Life Follow-Up

Hailey & Sean check in to talk about the results of two life hack experiments they tried from the previous episode - dying a shirt with beets and making a lasagna out of pizza. Find out what was a hit and what was a miss! Plus, Hailey talks insecurities and feedback from all of you, does a few questionable impressions, and begs Donnie Wahlberg to be on the show.

Broke-Ass Bob: Dying a shirt with beets

We dyed one shirt for 20 minutes as seen on the show. A second shirt was dyed for almost two days.

Check out How to Dye Fabric with Beets for more in-depth instructions.

Beet Dyed Shirt Comparison

  • Cut the greens off of the beets.

  • Peel all of the beets and slice into 1-2 inch chunks.

  • Put beets in a pot and fill pot with water.

  • Bring to a boil and let simmer for a couple of hours.

  • I used an old-ass cotton shirt (Shirt #1) and placed it into the pot with tongs.

  • After 20 minutes, pull the shirt from the dye.

  • Shirt #2 simmered in a vinegar solution for a couple of hours.

  • After straining Shirt #2, I dropped it into the beet juice to sit for 12-24 hours. (I left mine in for about 48 hours.)

  • In the end, Shirt #2 was substantially more pink than Shirt #1.

Make delicious sauteed beet greens!

We read that beet greens tasted more like kale, but we thought they had more of a collard greens taste to them. Quite delicious!

We used the Simple Beet Greens Recipe!

  • Cut the stalks off the greens.

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil on medium heat.

  • Drop greens in boiling water for a couple of minutes. Rinse with cold water immediately.

  • Drain the greens.

  • Add minced garlic, chili pepper flakes, and olive oil to a hot pan on medium heat.

  • Drop greens in pan, stir, and cook until hot.

Broke-Ass Bob's Pizza Lasagna

Making pizza lasagna was rough, but somebody had to try it! 😉

Try this Leftover Pizza Lasagna Recipe, but make sure you season everything or it will be kinda bland.

  • I used a Little Caeser’s pre-sliced thin crust pepperoni pizza.

  • What you’ll need: Baking dish, cold pizza, ricotta cheese, pizza sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheese.

  • Start with a thin layer of pizza sauce in the dish

  • Layer pizza on top of sauce

  • Layer more sauce and ricotta on top of the pizza

  • Continue to the top of the baking dish

  • Add shredded cheese on top

  • Bake at 350, covered, for 30 minutes

  • Remove foil and bake for another 10 minutes
