Garden Diaries: Wildflowers in the Roadside Cove

Well, hello there!!

You may notice I have a completely new website and look to the blog! Though it has taken a lot longer than I anticipated, this is my first blog post in the new space!

Moving the blog from its first home on Blogger, to Squarespace, allows me to grow and move towards my other goals. I’m looking forward to selling my art here on the website, and making it easier for you to find all my creative endeavors. But I’ll talk about that more in time….

For now, I’m excited to share a look at some of the plants and flowers in my yard. We’ve spent the last couple of years doing a ton of yardwork, putting in a garden, and tidying up various other areas of our yard. We’ve put in clover instead of grass, which paid off in the spring with a gorgeous show of red clover flowers. We hacked away thick blackberry brambles and ivy to reveal my own standing stones. I’ve planted flowers all over, but I wanted to experiment with the patch of dirt closest to the road.

I call it the Roadside Cove. This year, I started a variety of flowers from seed (sweet alyssum, sunflowers, marigolds, chamomile, borage, sweet peas, zinnias, cosmos) and put down seed from two different wildflower mixes, plus extra cornflowers. They are simply pretty, but I also find it fascinating to watch how they grow and document their beauty. (Plus, the chamomile smells like pineapple, the sweet alyssum smells like honey, and the sweet peas smell like honeysuckles.)
