What I Wore: Color Makes Me Happy
Color makes me happy! Colorful outfits make me dance around and sing like a Disney Princess. If you've been reading the blog, you already know this. Bright hued frocks delight me! So it should come as no surprise to you when I say that this vibrant dress from Gwynnie Bee kept my winter blues at bay for quite some time.
Postcards is a Gwynnie Bee exclusive brand, so you need to be a GB subscriber to add this dress to your closet. (The colorful Ikat skirt I wore in this post is also by Postcards.) I think the "fit and flare" title is a little misleading as it doesn't have that classic fit-and-flare silhouette, in my opinion. The upper portion of the dress is a bit blousy, while the skirt is more of an A-line. I am wearing this dress in a size 24, which I feel is pretty true to size. (This dress is available in sizes 14 to 32.) The armholes were just a bit big, but overall it was a comfortably roomy dress without being shapeless. What helps the shape is an elastic waist band and matching chiffon tie belt.
The dress is lined, with the snakeskin and ombre print overlay ending a few inches below the lining. This hit me at right above the knee on my 5'9" frame. I thought it was a pretty perfect length for this more blousy, flowy silhouette. I do wish the neckline was more of a V-neck, or just more open at the top. I added this sparkly Vera Wang necklace to draw the eye instead.
Obviously, I was totally enamored with the colors! The blues of the snakeskin transition to an ombre blue, purple, and green. The colors are vibrant, contrasting, and gorgeous together. Because of the purple and slight hint of fuchsia at the bottom of the snakeskin print, I was inspired to add this equally vibrant and contrasting shrug. I think it helped to balance out the print and color of the dress and also balance the way the dress looked on my body. Nude wedges elongated my calves and didn't compete with the rest of the colorful frock.
