Birchbox Review: June 2012

If you don't know about Birchbox, it is a monthly subscription service.  For $10 a month, you get a box of 4 to 5 high-end skincare, makeup, and/or hair care products to sample.  Sometimes there are also "lifestyle samples", like an organic granola bar, tea, etc.  Some products are even full-size!

It is a really fun thing to get in the mail!  Plus, I am a product junkie and love being able to try all these different products.  Check out the website for more information!

This month's theme is Jet Set.

Birchbox June 2012

Products included:

1. Comodynes Self-Tanning Intensive.  I haven't used these yet, though I am excited to try them on my legs.  I'm always skeptical of self-tanners because they usually come out so orangey and streaky.  This one isn't supposed to be either of those things, so I will have to try it out.
2. Masqueology Pore Minimizing Mask.  I loved the cooling effect of this mask.  It was easy to unfold and put on.  It felt nice and cool against my skin and didn't have any kind of major smell.  Be prepared to sit still for 20 minutes while wearing it because it doesn't stick to you.  It can slip around a little if you are moving around.  The result was hydrated, smooth skin.
3. Stila One Step Bronze.  I was really happy to get this product because I LOVE Stila.  This is actually a full-size product worth $36, which makes it even more exciting.  It seems a little bit dark to me, so I blend it out a lot.  The shimmer and bronzing are so pretty though.
4. theBalm Cosmetics Stainiac in Beauty Queen.  I will definitely be purchasing a full-size of this when I run out.  It looks like a bright, bloody red in the tube, but applies more muted in a pretty pink color.  You can easily layer it for more pigment.  It stains well and stays on for quite a while.  Even through eating and drinking, I didn't reapply for about 5 hours.  I also didn't really notice any "ringing", where the stain fades except for the outer or inner ring around your lips.  It stayed fairly even.
5. Tili Bags.  This is basically a slightly heavier-duty Ziploc bag with a design on it to carry your small carry-on beauty products or other such travel items. The edges are clear, but you can't really see through the pattern on the bag.
6. John Varvatos Star USA.  I'm pretty picky about man scents, but I like this.  It isn't really musky, more a nice, light scent great for summer.  I can definitely smell the juniper notes.  Mr. Diva seemed to like it too.
