What I Wore: Modern Sassenach

Review of the Outlander Hooded Cape from Her Universe - DivineMrsDiva.com

It has been way too long since I mentioned Outlander on the blog, which is unacceptable!!  Thankfully, today's post reviews the Outlander Hooded Cape from Her Universe's newest collection.

We are deep in Droughtlander right now, so I was both surprised and delighted by this new Outlander goodness.  While Her Universe sent me the cape, I bought the dress and hair barrettes from the collection.  Cozy up for my review and check out the rest of the items over at Her Universe!

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 52/49/58.

I'm wearing the Outlander Hooded Cape in the size 1/2 (size 14-20), which is definitely a size down from what I would normally wear.  (I typically wear a Plus Size 3 or 4 at Her Universe, which translates to a 22/24 and 26.)  However, I have plenty of room in this cape and the shoulders seem to sit really well.  The fabric is a polyester that feels wool-like and is also dry-clean only.  It is soft with a nice texture and a satiny lining in Outlander tartan. (The description on the website says "Mackenzie tartan", but the Mackenzie tartan has an aqua blue line running through the pattern and this one does not.)

This cape has armholes, unlike the Lord of the Rings cape I showed you a couple months ago.  Having the armholes, in addition to the empire seam and curved hem, give the cape a nice shape that doesn't look too oversized.  Hidden snaps and faux leather buckles keep the cape secure, though I do wish the buckles were faked with snaps as well because it takes some extra time to secure each one. The embroidered thistle logo is a pretty touch, while the hood and pockets are functional additions.  (I did think the pockets were decorative when I wore the cape the first time.  I had to get a seam-ripper and open up the pockets so I could use them, FYI.)

Most of the items carried in Her Universe's collection run from sizes 0 to 30.

I decided to go full modern sassenach in my tartan sweatshirt and lace-up boots, both from previous Torrid Outlander collections. It is definitely a look I can't wait to wear again in these colder months!
