I wasn't sure what I was going to do for my birthday this year. Last year was my 40th, which came and went without the fanfare I would have wanted. My prom-themed party is on hold for the foreseeable future, but I didn't want this year to pass by so easily.
Back in November, a small group of us rented a cabin for our friend Joaquin's birthday. We had so much fun, so I thought another version of that would be festive but chill for my birthday celebration. With the beach in mind, Sean found a rental house for us all to hang out in. We took walks on the beach, played games, took turns making meals, and even made s'mores by the fireside! You can also check out our celebratory photoshoot in a previous post! While not everything went as I had planned, we all had a fun weekend together that was a much-needed break from the monotony of every day.
This is a picture-heavy post with what I wore, what we did, what we ate, and the often moody Oregon Coast scenery. Enjoy!

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 53/52/60.
What I Wore to the beach: Top - Torrid (this one is gone now, but they have lots of off-shoulder styles) Tank - Old Navy ribbed tank circa 2003 (similar) Columbia Anytime Outdoor Capri - Amazon (I wear a 24 in this line) Chaco Sandal - These was a Sierra Trading Post find |
We rented this place via VRBO, which we have had luck with as of late. It worked out really well for all of us and has some perks we didn't realize, like a walk-in closet in the main bedroom! |
There were deer on the grounds in the evenings. Sean and I watched bats feast along the wetland area. |
When we got in Thursday night, I opened my gifts from Nigel and Joaquin - a new tiara and the latest Holo Taco collection! When Felis arrived the next day, she gave me this rose quartz necklace! |
The five of us played games Thursday night, including Telestrations After Dark. This is my attempt at "Puss In Boots" and a rooster. These are probably the only G-rated drawings of the night. |
The next morning we relaxed for a bit before heading out to walk along the beach. This weekend was a practice in working on my perfectionism tendencies. I challenged myself to go to the beach with no makeup on both days and to just wear something comfy. I barely did anything to my hair either. (I believe I put on my Dr. Jart Color-Correcting moisturizer and Lipstick Queen lip stain.) |
The way down was very steep! We hadn't anticipated that. Sean decided to come down the hill backward. |
What I Wore: There's Magic In All Of Us Tee - The Cosmic Feminist (wearing a 4X) Columbia Anytime Outdoor Capri - Amazon (I wear a 24 in this line) Women's Fresh Foam 1350 Walking Shoe (Waterproof!) - New Balance MultiSac Major Backpack in Wildflower/Hazelnut - Amazon Custom Prescription Sunglasses from Zenni Optical Baseball Cap - A souvenir from our trip to Glacier National Park last September |
Sorta matchy sunglasses married couple alert! |
We ended up walking a ways down the beach in hopes of finding a not-so-steep path back to our neighborhood. I think we walked 3 miles total and had to make our way back on the main road. |
Once we made our way back to the house, we all got cleaned up (I took a relaxing bath and sipped wine), while Julian prepared our shrimp street taco dinner. It was SO GOOD! |
My "Dance Party & Game Night" did not go as planned. Sean and I tried to save things by encouraging games and I attempted to go with the flow. |
The next morning, I enjoyed some morning sun while Nigel and Joaquin prepared breakfast for everyone. |
Dutch Baby pancake with berries, sausage, bacon, and hashbrown casserole. Also all incredibly tasty! |
After breakfast, I threw on my "Basic Northwest Girl" cosplay and headed back to the beach! Sweatshirt - another souvenir from Montana (this was an unexpected 3X find) Jeans - Loft Custom Prescription Sunglasses from Zenni Optical Chaco Sandal - These was a Sierra Trading Post find |
It was a much sunnier and warmer day, so lots of people were out. |
We didn't feel like climbing back up the steep hill, so we sat at the crest of the dunes and enjoyed looking at the ocean - away from people. |
The rest of the gang joined us later. They do know how to make an entrance! |
If you bring your cute dog to the beach, I will spy on it and take photos! |
While it was sunny and warmer, it still wasn't that warm. I stayed bundled in my sweatshirt while enjoying pushing my feet into the sand. Getting burnt was not on my radar. (foreshadowing) |
We headed back to the house to get cleaned up and ready for our big photoshoot. Sean and I were in charge of dinner, so we did a make-your-own-pizza night with crusts we picked up at the farmer's market. This is my gluten-free concoction with sauteed mushrooms and onions, shredded chicken, and some other stuff I don't remember. Then I topped it with arugula and goat cheese. It was scrumtious! |
Turns out, I got burnt. And boy did it hurt! Three months later, I still have very distinct lines on my feet. |
After our photoshoot, we came back to the house to warm up, play games, and make S'mores by the fire. |
Sean and I stayed an extra night and checked out tidepools before we headed home.
That'll be coming up in a future post!
