I'm so excited to finally get to share this post with y'all! Surely by now, you know what a huge fan of Outlander I am. I've reviewed numerous Outlander-collection pieces, met Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe at Comicon, talked about everyday cosplay on television, dreamed of going to Scotland one day, shot a collection video where I cosplayed as Claire a smidge (which Diana Gabaldon reposted on Twitter!), and finally manifested that dream into reality by visiting Outlander filming locations in Scotland!
When I love something, I love it all the way.
So you can imagine my excitement when Her Universe reached out and sent me a piece from their new Outlander collection! Today I am reviewing the Outlander Mackenzie Tartan Cinch Dress. It's selling out fast, so go snatch one up if you're interested!

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 52/49/58.
I was really excited about the design of this dress as soon as I saw it. It is definitely something different, a great mix of wearable with a heavy Outlander and Scottish influence. The fabric is made of a lightweight, super stretchy cotton/spandex blend. It feels incredibly smooth and super soft to the touch. And, as it was raining while I was shooting photos, it also dries extremely fast.
I'm wearing a size 4 in the Outlander Mackenzie Tartan Cinch Dress, which translates to a 24/26 at Her Universe (sizes plus 12-26, juniors 0-21, and men and youth sizes as well). I'd say it is pretty true to size. The overall fit is great for me, though there are a few areas that are a bit more generous. I almost think I could have sized down, but I also worry the back would be more clingy if I did that. I like having the wiggle room in this comfortable fit.
The style of the dress is a fit-and-flare with a dark grey tee inset at the neckline. The tartan portion has a sweetheart neckline, faux earasaid details, and an adjustable lace-up waist. I wish the structure of the belted portion continued to the back of the garment, but it does have pockets.
I really love this dress and the earasaid details. I can see wearing this for Outlander-themed fun, to Highland Games and Ren Faires one day in the future, to photoshoots where I'm a Celtic archer or a Scottish faerie. I had a fantastic time playing in the rainy wood for these photos, and I look forward to doing it again.
For accessorizing, I went full Outlander with my Dragonfly In Amber-inspired earrings, Jamie and Claire's rings necklace, and my own Outlander-inspired thistle ring. And it was mighty chilly out so I am wearing some basic black leggings, my tall brown boots, and, of course, my Claire knitwear.
