Today is a fun one!  I used to wear hats quite a bit.  Back in the early 2000s, newsboy caps were super popular and I owned quite a few in different colors and fabrics.  I also had a few berets, a pink wool fedora, and a straw cowboy hat.  But once I decided to get bangs, it was really hard to wear hats and still manage my hairstyle.  More recently, I've grown my bangs out and opted for a side-swept look that makes wearing hats so much easier!

Then Tenth Street Hats reached out to me and I was excited to try a new hat look!  As I was browsing their selection of hat styles, I was excited that they had a search option for big heads.  I have a 23-inch dome, so finding a hat that fits well is a chore.  But then I saw a gorgeous fascinator and I knew I wanted to wear it with my hot pink party dress.  In today's post, I put together this "Royal Garden Party" look to show off my new floral, fuchsia fascinator from Tenth Street Hats, and bring you a review of the elements of my ensemble!

Tenth Street was founded in 1921.  The name comes from the location of the original warehouse in Oakland, California, and they remain a family-run business that still uses rare hat-making machines in their factories.  They carry both men's and women's hats in styles and materials for every season!

While a large fascinator may not be your typical hat, it still counts as one!  The moment I saw the Rachel Alexandria, I was smitten.  I immediately saw this whole ensemble in my head and hoped I could make it happen and pull it off!  Tenth Street was kind enough to send this fuchsia fun my way.

When she arrived, she was packaged well with tissue in a large, square plastic box to keep her shape.  It was like opening a big Christmas gift!  Rachel was much larger than I had anticipated, which was very exciting to me.  As a plus-size woman, I generally like my bags, hats, and jewelry to be more proportioned to the size of my body.  This fascinator is very well-made and is actually a Kentucky Derby-licensed product.  She comes in yellow, navy, red, lavender, and a blush pink as well.

I was really impressed with the size and quality of the fascinator.  I don't know exactly what I expected, but it far exceeded my expectations.  It's lightweight, the headband doesn't pinch, and it sits very nicely.  While there wasn't a ton of people at the park when I shot this outfit, the people that passed by gave me lots of compliments on my outfit and the fascinator!

The Rachel Alexandria does retail for $180, which may far exceed most people's budgetary restrictions.  Tenth Street also carries a less expensive fascinator, at $45, called the Rosa.  Rosa comes in fuchsia, black, navy, blush, and white, and features an organza flower and matching feathers on a headband.

This bright skater dress from Torrid is sold out now, as I bought it back in the spring for an event I wanted to go to for my birthday.  Of course, everything has been postponed, but I hope I still get a chance to wear it to the event in the future.  Torrid actually has a similar style in red right now, so I wanted to still bring you my thoughts on this style.  The fit is great!  I'm wearing a 24 and find it fits true to size.  I do have a little bit of room in the bust, but that is usually an issue for me anyway.  The satin fabric has some stretch to it and is very comfortable to wear.  There is a lining and tulle underneath to give some life to the skirted portion of the dress.  The bodice of the dress is a little thicker to give it some structure and smoothness.  I'm so happy I bought it, and extremely happy with the fit and feel of this dress.

The capelet and clutch were purchased for a wedding I was to be a bridesmaid in, which obviously got postponed.  I thought the navy anchored the hot pink a bit, but the sequins keep it glitzy!  Both of these items were purchased on Amazon.  I find clutches to be more aesthetically pleasing for dressier looks, but they sure ain't practical.  This one is a lovely little bag that can hold the very basic necessities.  The capelet had reviews and photos from plus size women, so I wasn't too worried about it fitting.  I think it is quite lovely for being less than $20.  I liked it so much, I've since bought two more colors for other costumes and outfits.

I was straight-up falling over in this photo because I lost my balance.  Sean captured it and I quickly caught myself. 😂
