Happy 2019!!
I'm back with a brand new outfit post! I wanted to keep this post short and sweet to get back in the groove of things. I still have a ton of stuff to share with you and hope to catch up on all of that one of these days. Life still goes on, whether we have time for it or not. I hope the new year finds you well and happy and ready for an exciting year!
I wore this outfit to the Mystery Science Theater 3000 live show back in November. I was so excited to finally see the show live! Sean and I missed out on the previous tour. We also had tickets to the Meet and Greet to meet Joel and Jonah. Joel did a Q & A prior to photos, which was also a lot of fun. More on than later! For now, let's talk clothing.

Before we get started, I am 5'9", typically wear a 22/24, wear a 40B bra, a size 11 wide shoe, and my measurements are 52/49/58.
I chose this outfit for this particular event for several reasons. I needed to be somewhat warm for walking around the city. It actually wasn't raining that day, which helped a lot in terms of my own personal comfort, but I also wanted my outfit to be comfortable and easy to wear. Casual is fine, but I wanted something a little more elevated and pulled together. Since the meet and greet photos were happening as well, I wanted to look cute for the photo. I had no idea how it was going to be done or what to expect, so I had to push my anxiety aside and just go with my gut. I had the idea of this outfit in my head for a bit, so I was really happy with the finished look.
The Super Soft Black Floral Lace-Up Babydoll Tee is another in Torrid's collection of babydoll silhouette tops. I have both a short sleeve and a three-quarter sleeve tops in this same style, but they tend to have big, open necklines that require a cami underneath for extra security where the cleavage is concerned. I was really drawn to the lace-up feature because it adds some interest and covers a bit of the neckline so no cami is needed. While this particular pattern is sold out, there is another just like it in a different color combination, and a few other similar styles. (Linked below.)
I'm wearing a size 3 and find it fits true to size. I do like the roominess of the skirted portion of the top, but it doesn't give a maternity look. The fabric is a soft knit rayon/spandex blend that moves nicely with the body and is incredibly easy to wear. These kinds of tops are also great for travel in that they are lightweight, pack well, and don't wrinkle much. If you've been shopping at Torrid for a while this style top is probably old news to you, but in case you are new to them I wanted to make sure to go over all the details. You can see the other versions of this style I own here and here.
I paired this fall-hued top with my dark olive skinny jeans from Lane Bryant. Unfortunately, they didn't carry too many colored jeans this past year, but I snatched up the burgundy color as well. I find that the Super Stretch jeans keep their shape and fit well. There was a long period when Lane Bryant jeans were just too long and stretched out super fast. I'm glad I went ahead and tried their denim again. I wear a 22 in the Super Stretch denim, and have been able to size down in it consistently.
For accessories, in keeping with the fall colors, I donned my brown Comfortiva boots. They are comfortable and have a texture and coloring to them that feels a bit more elevated. I went monochromatic with my layers of a forest green anorak jacket and my newly acquired Outlander plaid scarf. The black Baggallini bag is a used find via Poshmark. I was looking for a basic black travel purse and didn't want to spend too much money on it prior to my Georgia trip. This bag is in great condition and fit what I needed perfectly. It was also a steal at $20, when new Baggallini bags are easily $70.

As I mentioned, the Meet and Greet was a lot of fun and pretty laid back. Joel came out and answered questions alone before Jonah joined him. Then everyone met up onstage for photos. The guys manning Tom Servo and Crow sit on wheeled coasters, essentially, and hold the puppets up while they talk. It was really fun to see the snippets of behind-the-scenes stuff like that. Each person shook our hands and asked our names and were all super friendly. My stepbrother Wes was my MST3K buddy. He got me into it and we would watch the show together when we were at our parents' house at the same time. When I walked off stage after the photo, I swear I heard him giggle. I teared up knowing he would have loved every minute of it.
A funny thing that happened during the show was when I got got squirted in the eye by the first movie's monster! (See middle photo below) A character came out with a replica of the monster in the film, which I believe shot acid out of its mouth before it devoured people. She was talking about it going out of control and swung it around as it squirted water on the audience. We were in the second row and it shot me right in the eye! Thankfully, I had my glasses on, but the whole right side of my face was soaked. And the spray of water bounced off my glasses and hit the lady next to me too. It was funny and totally unexpected. I mean, all you could do was laugh hysterically at it happening. I was still in shock when Sean took the photo. hahahaha
Do you appreciate these babydoll styles from Torrid? What other details and features would you like to see on these tops? Are you still into colored denim? Are you a MST3K fan?? Let's chat!
