Last month Sean and I decided to take a last minute trip to the beach.  We desperately needed to get out of town, as it has been quite some time since our last vacation.  I needed to see the ocean and breathe the sea air and stare at the water.  It's just one of those things my soul was craving.  I was feeling very stifled, claustrophobic, and burnt out.  It was a short trip since we are saving up for Hawaii, but it was great nonetheless.  I wish we could have spent the whole week there.

We chose to go to Newport, Oregon because neither one of us has been there before.  Newport is located in the central area of the Oregon coast.  I will talk about the fun we had on our trip in later posts (whale and seal sightings, sunsets, fun at the aquarium, etc.).  I took so many pictures and am still in the midst of editing.  Today, I am talking about what I wore on the trip, with the added bonus of Sean's "Outfits of the Days" in case the plus-sized guy in your life needs some outfit ideas also.  And just to prepare you, we do take a lot of couple selfies on our trips.  It's just what we do.  Enjoy!

 Day 1

Day One was mostly about travel.  Newport is only three hours away, but we intended to make some stops along the way and go at a leisurely pace.  I have featured this outfit on the blog before.  It's my go-to for comfort in travel, especially road trips.  This maxi skirt is such a great staple and goes with lots of tops and colors. I originally owned it in a 4X and, once I lost some weight, bought a 3X so I would never have to be without it.  It's that good.  It doesn't wrinkle when I pack it either.  Of course, my New Kids t-shirt is a go-to for comfort and to represent in full force!  It is easy to throw on a light jacket or cardigan with this look, though the weather was perfect so there was no need.  Since we were just taking a short road trip, I didn't have to be super picky about what shoes I brought along.  I'm wearing my rhinestoned FitFlops I bought in Vegas with this look.  They are super comfortable and easy to kick off in the car.

Sean's been pattern-mixing lately and doing a good job at it.  We buy a majority of his clothes from Old Navy and JCPenney.  These shorts are a great light-weight material that moves really well.  I ended up getting him five new pairs of shorts this summer during a big sale.

Day 2

On Day Two, we visited the local aquarium, had a late clam chowder lunch, hung out at the the lighthouse to watch the sunset, and then laid on the beach to watch the stars.    In my quick planning of outfits, I kept an eye on the weather.  The forecast was perfectly awesome mid-70s temps, but I forgot to factor in the ocean breeze.  It got pretty chilly close to the water, so I had to opt for Sean's back-up jacket he had in the car.  My denim shorts are the dark wash Lane Bryant ones I have had for a bit.  I wore them so much last summer, I ended up buying the light wash this year.   I was so excited to wear my "Beach Please" tank, but it is pretty long.  It hung down past my denim shirt, so I tied a little side knot in it to make it a bit shorter.  Denim shirt as a layering piece, comfortable shoes for walking, and a big-ass crossbody bag to hold all my stuff were also essentials.  I had a hard time deciding on what color bag to bring, but the brown went with a lot more than I expected.

Sean's look includes another new pair of shorts.  I made him get these printed shorts because he has a lot of shirts that will match.  I pictured him wearing them in Hawaii, so when we saw them on clearance in-store for $10, we snatched them up!  His coral polo and navy Crocs were perfect pieces for comfort, but he looked so cute too!  Thankfully, he remembered to bring his own jacket just in case.  It's a mid-weight knit jacket from Kohl's that I got him for Christmas a couple years ago.  He loved it so much, we also purchased a black one.

Day 3

On Day Three, we were traveling back home after a day of sight-seeing.  Luckily, I brought along some jeans for versatility.  Jeans/capris provided a little more coverage against the chilly breeze, but also enabled me to be lazy and not shave my legs that day.  Sleeping in equals win!  These Catherines Girlfriend Jeans, as you know, are my go-to jeans for travel.  They look good rolled up or down, they fit my thighs and butt well, they don't stretch out too much, and the hidden elastic waist means the waistband does not get baggy. THEY ROCK.  I am so glad I bought them!  Since purchasing these, I have also bought a dark wash pair just like them and the latest version that is still available on the website.  Those just arrived in the mail today and they fit great!  The waistband on the newer pair is a little different, in that it isn't hidden elastic but two elastic panels on the side.  Nobody sees my waistband anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

I opted for a loose-fitting knit pullover top in this bright coral color.  I bought this top at Kohl's over the summer.  They have some great activewear pieces!  My comfortable walking shoes are Skechers I bought years ago.  The mary jane style is cute and casual and easy to slip off and replace with flip flops for beach walking.  The nude color goes with everything, but they also have gold glitter panels, which makes them so "me".
