I've been trying to branch out more in shopping my closet to pair items in ways that are new to me. This keeps my creativity flowing when I dress myself, but also helps me make the most out of what I have. This also ties in to my "more mindful shopping" I talked about not too long ago as well. In today's post, I show you one of two recent looks I put together specifically in an effort to try something out of my comfort zone. Let's get to it!
The only item in this look that is completely new to me and the blog is the grey knit swing tank I picked up from Lane Bryant. I love swing tanks because the a-line silhouette provides more room in the tummy and hips and skims those parts of me better than a regular tank. Plus, they are breezy and flowing and perfect for warmer weather. Lane Bryant carries this style in a handful of colors right now. I opted for grey and coral/orange. The jersey knit is silky and not too thick, but has weight that helps it hang nicely. They are super comfy and fit true to size. I am wearing a 22/24. I love the longer length as well.
This look started because I saw a pair of amazing purple jeans. I wanted them, but I know I haven't worn the mint jeans I own all that often. That got me thinking about how to further utilize the pair of colored denim I own. Then I started thinking about other pieces I haven't worn in a bit. What came about was a fun pastel look that makes me feel like a bit of a boho cupcake. hahaha
You can see these mint jeans previously on the blog here, and the pink bellini here.
The thinner denim of the ankle jeans (I bought them on clearance at LB a couple years ago) makes them a bit tricky. I like to wear longer shirts with them to distract from my upper thighs. They are super stretchy and comfortable, but sometimes I feel a bit self-conscious when I wear them for that reason. The long swing tank is a great length and made me feel more comfortable. In keeping with the airy color combination, I added the pale pink bellini and chose not to tie it for a more relaxed look. I cinched the ties, doubled the loop on each side, and used a safety pin to keep them in place. The turquoise in the necklace complements the jeans while the pink flowers in the headband mirror the pink of the bellini. I need to remember to use my DIY headbands more often because I love feeling like a fairy princess with flowers in my hair. Rose gold sandals complete my Pastel Boho Cupcake ode to spring!
