The last week of May is winding down, as is my term as Style Ambassador for Catherines. I've had so much fun re-introducing myself to the brand and shopping their spring and summer collections. For today's look, I chose this beautifully colorful maxi, shrug, and coordinating jewelry. Since I am not going anywhere tropical anytime soon, I brought the tropical to me. Whether you are attending a beach wedding or sipping sangria at a BBQ, this dress is sure to keep you comfortable and looking fabulous.
The Santa Barbara Maxi is the same style as my first Catherines post, but I purchased this one in a 3X. (The first look was a 2X.) It is slightly larger under the bust, but gives me a bit more hip room. The length seems to be about the same in both sizes, brushing against the tops of my feet. (For reference, I am 5'9" and my measurements are 52/50/59). I appreciate the curve-skimming fit of this more column-style maxi and just adore the bejeweled medallion on the gathered empire bust. The poly/spandex fabric accentuates the curves nicely, but isn't clingy. The gathered bust provides an extra bit of fabric to conceal my tummy rolls and give a more streamlined look. The turquoise, blue, and lime color scheme is accentuated with accents of black, hazy bands of color, and mixed animal prints. I love how the black at the neckline and hem really frame the dress. It is just so gorgeously vibrant and fun! Catherines continues to offer this style of dress in different patterns and color combinations.
The Harborside Shrug in dark turquoise compliments the blue in the dress very well. This is the same shrug as I wore in my Catherines post from last week. I sized down to a 1X because of the more dolman sleeve shape and the fit is fantastic. It is a longer shrug that hits me just above my natural waist, with a perfect sleeve length. The lightweight fabric is stretchy and soft, breezy and light; but it does stay in place and seldom falls back towards my shoulders.
I accessorized with jeweled gladiator sandals that mimic the medallion on the dress, dangling turquoise and blue earrings, and a chunky blue bracelet to highlight the oceanic colors in the dress. The blue shrug further highlights those colors. Since this is a similar look to my initial Catherines post this month, I wanted to show you a few different over-pieces with this dress that change up the look a little bit and can carry you through various summer events.
