Happy Tuesday, everyone! We had some glorious weather over the weekend, which seemed like a perfect opportunity to wear my new SWAK Designs dress. SWAK has carried this dress in different colors for a few years now. It has always sold out before I could get my hands on it. So when the new lookbook and clothing for spring appeared on the website, I snatched it up as soon as I could! It also happens to fall in line with this month's Sartorial Medley theme - "Floral Bohemian".
As expected, I absolutely love this dress! I was so excited when it arrived in the mail that I had to try it on immediately. The gauze fabric is light and flowy and extremely comfortable. It has a little bit of stretch to it, with elastic under the bust, at the neck, and on the arms. I normally wear a 22/24, but find that SWAK items can be different in sizing depending on the style and fabric of each piece. I went ahead and ordered this according to the size chart, which put me at a 4X. While this does fit well, the elastic is looser and not super tight, so I think I could have sized down and been fine. As my boobs are smaller, I don't fill out the top of this completely. However, I still think the back looks great (no Spanx!), but the sleeves poof out a little in the back just because it is slightly larger on me. The hem hits me right under the knee, which is long enough that I don't have to worry about flashing anyone. lol (I'm 5'9".)
The colors of the fabric and embroidery are gorgeously vibrant and make it so fun to wear. Plus, I love flowing pieces I can spin around in and swish around me. It makes me feel very princess-like. I received tons of compliments on the dress and accessories alike.
This is the first time I have taken my new flowered headband out for a spin. Crafty tip: If your head is larger (like mine) and those elasticized flowered headbands don't stay put on your head, cut the elastic off and hot glue the decorative portion to a regular skinny headband. I just bought four flowered head pieces on clearance at Ulta and turned them all into headbands like this.
While I don't often wear looks that could be considered bohemian, I really enjoyed the laid back, flowery aesthetic of this look. I did my makeup very natural, let me hair air dry a bit, and pranced around in my sandals. I love the simplicity of it because it feels very romantic and girly. This dress will definitely be my go-to summer dress! In fact, I think I need all the colors now!!
